NFL 2011 Season Starts Now

WTF??? Vick gets a $100 Million Dollar Extension today???

he’s played like dog poo so far in the pre season, he is 31 years old and is a scrambling QB who they sign until he’s 37? No way he even has a chance to stay healthy for that contract much less be effective as a mid 30’s running QB with accuracy issues.

I think the Eagles overpaid big time.

Incredibly risky move. By mid season, Vick is out for injury. The O-line is as bad or even worse than Dallas’s and they know it. Hell you can tell already with preseason.

exactly. They shoulda saved half that money and spent it on some O Lineman cause their current set up absolutely BLOWS. Vick wont last 4 full games with they way they’re playing and the shots he’s taken so far in pre season. his entire pre season play probably hasnt equaled one full regular season game and he’s been rocked a few times.

I know its preseason and most of you are reluctant to believe the hype of Detroit but they looked fantastic against New England. Stafford was again accurate, composed and productive in what might have been the most impressive performance (preseason or otherwise) in his career. He completed 12 of 14 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns, and one of his “misses” was an end zone pass to receiver Nate Burleson that could have been caught. He now has a 154.0 passer rating this preseason, having completed 24 of 31 passes for 356 yards and five touchdowns. He also absorbed his first hits of the preseason Saturday night and emerged no worse than before. The defensive looked great with 2 sacks on Brady, forced a fumble, and cut down on his pass rating. If they can keep a healthy D-line and QB, I see them taking 2nd in the North Division.
Can that back end hold up? Front 7 will be solid.
Im not sure on their coverage. We will have to just see. I do like their new DC Gunther Cunningham. Certainly more aggressive and experienced than previous. They also picked up LB Stephen Tulloch who will definitely help with both coverage and rush.

Anyone see this? NFL network had Belicheck wired for the entirety of last season. Looks very cool.

Im surprised he went along with the offer. Ill definitely watch it. Whether you like him or not, you have to agree that he is one of the most accomplished coaches.

I can’t believe they gave him that deal after he essentially played 2/3’s of a season last year, and looked horrible towards the end of it.

I guess they figure they have about a 2-3 year window to shoot for a Super Bowl, so they might as well throw all their chips in with Vick.

I agree though, he’s going to get blasted because teams saw last year that if you send pressure at him, he starts to malfunction and you also have a good chance of injuring him. Bring the house.

Its 40 guranteed not 100 million, and chances are he will not be there the whole 6 years. I say 3 tops.

Question if he fails to get the SB would that mean Reed is like the coach in the picture?

IRVING, Texas ? At the end of last season, the average age of the Cowboys’ starting offensive line was 30.4, making it one of the oldest groups in the NFL. This year, the team will have one of the league’s youngest lines.

Presumed starters Doug Free (27), Bill Nagy (23), Phil Costa (24), Kyle Kosier (32) and Tyron Smith (20) add up to a median age of 25.2. Barring injuries, the Cowboys will have two rookies among their opening day starters on the offensive line for the first time in team history.

In releasing Andre Gurode on Monday to clear the way for the second-year former undrafted free agent Costa, who the team expects back from a knee sprain in time for the opener, the Cowboys are making no secret of their rebuilding mission up front.

Wow, I say a 9-7 year, dont know if 2nd or 3rd in the division this year. The Giants didnt actually impress last night themselves.

I tought that they said on ESPN yesterday (i could be mistaken) that his guaranteed money was over 10 million a year for the first 3 years? He was supposed to make 16million guaranteed this year alone. No way he restructured for a long term deal for much less than that for this season.

either way it was/is a stupid contract IMO.

Heard on Serius this morning that 40 million guaranteed with this contract, I did not verify that though. I dont trust ESPN sorry, only for college football. They dumb shit down to much for me on the NFL level.

Yes still stupid, I would have done it at some point this year, maybe near the playoffs.

I heard 40 mil guaranteed too.

I love what the lions are doing and i hate me for loving it since in a die hard bears fan, but i want to lions to succeed just not in 2 games a year.

X2

He’s is known for being the master of saying nothing of substance. Will watch.

What if after watching it I…gulp…like the guy. He does show a sense of humour now and again.

I went to a Steeler @ Lions game with some friends a couple years ago and I almost felt bad Pittsburgh won the game lol. Those fans are going to go apeshit if they make a playoff run.

As a Patriots fan I am almost glad they got this beat down because it shows what they need to work on and pissed them off. I am sure many of these things were known and of course they were missing starters but none the less the Lions were impressive. I am actually glad we don’t play them in the regular season as that D line is scary. Don’t worry though the Pats are unlikely to get hammered like this again any time soon

Vick just become the third-highest paid player in the NFL behind Brady and Manning after a signing a six-year 100 million dollar contract with something like 40 million guaranteed. Obviously as a Mike Vick supporter I’m happy for him and this only emphasises what a momentous come-back he has had both as a person and a player. I also think it reflects on American society as a whole, how the value of redemption is prevalent and strong.

That being said, even though I’m part of the people who have been ‘softer’ on him regarding the repercussions of his despicable actions, I think it would be a good thing for him to ‘donate generously’ to PETA or whatever dog groups there are around. I think it would help him move closer to personal redemption (allowing benefit of the doubt that he does still feel guilty) and only help him on the PR side.

I can agree with this. After hearing the first interview with Vick once he was released from prison, I could see something changed. I was ready to see him play and he has done an outstanding job. But as a business deal, its way too risky. You dont throw that amount of cash on a player who has been away from the game for that long. Yes he did great last year but with defenses configuring to nail him down, you cant envision another repeat like that.

I see nothing wrong with it. It’s only 40 million or perhaps a little less that is actually guaranteed. Rookies use to get ridiculous contracts before they even played a single game in the NFL.

He still owes around $14 million dollars in debt (including $6 million to the Falcons), so he’ll have to pay that off before he starts handing out donations…

Vick’s story is fascinating. I understand the hate that he still receives from many fans of course, but to look at him as a positive redemption story is to believe that our corrections/criminal justice system still has some value. It’s good to see him be out and be a better man after paying for the mess that he created. But yes, $100 mill is too much and too risky at this time.
