Newbie Lifter Seeking Advice On Form

Op, you need to drop the weight.

What program are you following?

Your problem is a lack of over all strength and attempting to lift too much weight.

Its too bad that your post has been hijacked, keep posting and you will eventually get some more help!

What program would you reccomend? I have my eye on starting strength. What program am I following? I started doing Arnold’s 6 day split a mistake. Then I went to a 4 day split ectomorph bodybuilding plan or something. I have a hard time taking rest days I’m almost ADD. I will probably get flamed big time I did SMOLOV intro microcycle, then the first week. Then I did 3 weeks squatting everyday. As far as a program I’m all over the place. I focused on the squat more becuase I started out being able to bench more more than I can squat.

I’m sure what I need to focus on is patience, discipline, fundamentals, the squat is my weakest lift. I probably lack the core strength and overall strength. My problem is I want it and I push weights that I shouldn’t. This is my take. I had hoped for lifters with more experience to give me cues. I appreciate those who have taken the time to post I hadn’t thought about set up, lock out , head up.

What do you think about something like SS I am weak no doubt. I’m 34 years old, I weigh 180, bench 245 squat ? 225-250? to real depth, deadlift 315. My goals are to get a good base of strength first.

You cannot go wrong with starting strength.

Please reconsider your maxes and start “too light”. Get the form right then increase weight.

Follow what coach Rippetoe preaches and you will not fail. Please read the book! Did you notice the exclamation point! Read the book, work the program = success.

Another popular program is stronglifts and will work just about the same.

These are both three day a week programs, for days of look into “active recovery”.

Got the book yesterday I am reading it now. I should have started here 9 months ago…thanks

Thanks for the advice everyone. This is 260. I’ll post another view from the rear maybe you can tell me f I’m high or low or if I should or could go lower.[/quote]

Based off the rear facing video, I would say you are very heavily toward high bar versus low bar. If you are following Rippetoe he will have you squatting with low bar placement with a weird sort of high bar/low bar hybrid, but having a squat style to base your foundation off of is still beneficial for your lifting pursuit.

Keep reading Starting Strength and soaking it all in, but also keep in mind it is just one person’s perspective. Watch a lot of other successful squatters, look for people with your body type, and play around with your own technique and see what works for you.
