Hello everyone. I am just finishing up my fourth week on TRT. Currently taking 0.9/week in a once weekly shot. Will be switching to 2x weekly, same total amount next week.
At 33 years old, my test was at 240. I’ve trained on and off my entire adult life and suspect T had been this low for 2-3 years. I am feeling great now, started feeling substantially better in week 3.
My question is, should I be thinking of changing my lifting routine now that I am on TRT? Previously, I got my best results with, and most enjoyed, a classic PPL 6 day routine.
Currently I am lifting 60 minutes a day, six days a week and feeling good. Will be running a 500 cal/ day surplus this winter. I can’t help but think my body will be so different now with higher T levels, that I may benefit from a different routine.
Any Insight on the matter is greatly appreciated.
Your body is simply going to respond BETTER to training now: not differently. When trainers design programs, they don’t have ones where it’s like “this is the tren program, this is the sust program”. The programs just work better for those that are on vs those that aren’t.
In that regard, I was absolutely murdering myself in training and getting minimal return before I got healthy. Once I got healthy, I got such a solid return on investment that I could wind down the training quite a bit. So you may find THAT to be an avenue you want to go toward. For myself, 6 days of lifting a week is 3 days too much, but your priorities may be different.

I basically have the same back story as you. Worked out off and on for years, noticed i had low T symptoms, went on TRT. I didn’t drastically change how i worked out necessarily. I just became stronger, and was able to recover faster. So I increased weight, increased intensity.
My split is Tricep/Chest , which is usually incline bench press followed by direct tricep and chest work. Then Back day, which i usually start with Deadlifts or Bent over rows, then direct bicep and lat/back work. Shoulders, Overhead pressing, followed by lateral raises and then rear delt work, and Legs… Squats, lots of squats…
But essentially, in my opinion, you don’t “change” your workout just because you are going to have higher test… Just increase your intensity/weight as you feel comfortable.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply.
I know john meadows was very adamant about different training styles for enhanced / natural and I just wanted to make sure that wasn’t the prevailing thought here.
I wholeheartedly agree that 3-4 days a week is plenty. The six happens to fit my life and schedule quite nicley but I understand it’s largely unnecessary. I may consider dialing back in the spring.

Yeah, you aren’t going to be enhanced at this point: you’re going to finally be “normal”. You’ll just learn that you’ve been off normal for so long you forgot what it was supposed to feel like.
Hope the healing goes well dude!

I appreciate the advice and it’s good to know that you started similar and it worked well. I have always added strength relatively quickly but felt like muscle size came slowly. Always needed frequent deloads too. Very interested to see the difference in the next while.
