JWright, you can get denim bench shirts with a closed back (like a normal shirt), with an open back (to show off your braided back hair), or with an open back with velcro (shave before velcroing your back hair). Others can provide a better analysis of the options, but they seem to balance ease of use with effectiveness.
Straight Gay! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Mike: I know that Titan (manufacturer of bench shirts) has on their site a nice little diagram on sleeve angles.
Just to give you an idea.
Seriously, Patricia?
So with all the style, you get functionality too?
That and bruises on your arms. Shirts are made with the open back to go on and off easier. The velcro in the back closes up the shirt. the old bp shirts were a plain bitch to get into. Open back makes it easier.
Some different federations have different rules which don’t allow the open back. The usapl allows a single ple closed back only, at least that’s what I remember. some federations allow more than one layer(ply) and allow the use of an open back. The thicker shirts tend to help the lift more, when you learn how to use them.
If the weight comes down harder, it goes up easier. The tighter the shirt, the better the results. This is why guys started to open up the backs. They get the tightness, but can get the shirts on easier.
I got my double poly yesterday. But you won’t be seeing any pictures of my sexy self in it. You’re not that lucky.
Jared, you better be posting some pics of you doing a 1500lb triple in it…
“I see…”, said the blind man.
Thanks, irondoc.
Equipment is getting more and more sophistacated. If you don’t use it and it’s allowed, you’re behind the game. I just ordered a double ply metal gear to try out. my experience with shirts is very minimal, but the IPA is in the backyard. I want to compete, I have to get some new equipment.
I remember my first supersuit was from marathon. The thing took 15 minutes to get on. The new metal gear suits seem to go on easier, but still give tremendous support. with my metal biefs and suit, I’m going to need over 500 to break parallel.
As for bench shirts, the consensus seems to me to go with double denim. i’m trying the meatal gear, but will probably order a Karin’s shirt. the meatal militia guys love her stuff.
Yeah, when you say bench “shirt” I think of something that actually fits all the way around. Since I’ve never seen a competition or a shirt for that matter, I had no idea what it looked like. I understand the tightness and making the bar go up easier, just didn’t know what they looked like.
