New Rules of Lifting vs. Afterburn

Has anyone tried either/both? Any comments on the differences? I’m assuming that Afterburn is more focused on fat loss, but that is covered in NROL, so is it the same program?

Just tring to determine which book might be most effective for my current goals (getting married in St. Lucia on June 1… need to lose a little bf)

Thanks!

Why not e-mail the author directly?

I have both and prefer the workouts and information in the NROL.

I had thought about that, and I probably will email Alwyn, but was looking for a third party perspective as well. Not trying to infer that Alwyn would do this, but it would be easy for a person who stands to make money off a product to suggest the more expensive of the two products.

Part of researching a purchase (yes, I know we are only talking $25 - $50) is a third party review. That’s all I’m asking for.

Thanks Nate…

The NROL is the best program I’ve ever performed. I have lost more BF and gained more muscle than on any previous program. It works especially well with John Berardi’s “Metabolism Advantage” nutrition program. Good luck.

Mike

Just received my copy of NROL this very morning. I’m liking what I’ve read so far.

Oh, and only $17.13 on Amazon for the hardback. That’s a bargain if I ever saw one

I have Afterburn and to be honest it doesnt contain anything that you couldnt have gleaned by doing a little bit of research. It is basically complexes with calorie control.

It is also the worst presented piece of material I have ever received from a T -nation contributor. You will get a raggedy set of pictures of people doing various exercises. Along with smudged dirty pages and poor layout.

Actually, I think you’re wrong. The worst piece of training material I have purchased is “Get Jacked.” Unfortunately, it is poorly photocopied and edited and doesn’t contain much useful info for anyone other than a true beginner who has never picked up a weight or muscle magazine in their life.

It’s unfortunate because the author has written far better stuff in the past and knows far more than what he printed in the book.

Afterburn may not be the best program out there, but it was edited a little better and the images were clear (I have the ebook and printed it on good paper).

Grrr! I wish this thread happened last week!

I emailed Alwyn (or his website at least) and their response was Afterburn I would best fit my goals.

But judging from what I have read in the repsonses thus far, I am going to go with NROL. And as suggested, I might just tie Berardi’s diet into it as well.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good program if you are strictly wanting to lose fat. However, you can gain so much more from NROL and have different fat-loss workouts to choose from.

Good idea. NROL and The Metabolism Advantage would be two good books to get and implement together.

NORL and Precision Nutrition could form a core for most of us recreational lifters.

I much prefer NROL - great great programs.

Just want to clarify last post - I have Afterburn as well. NROL is much much better, with a variety of programs.
