I’ve been taking about 6g of fish oil/ day to help with chol and trigs but didn’t seem to help. Started taking 10mg of pravastatin a couple days ago.

Vit D is low but nurse didn’t say anything about it…just that it was low.

SHBG is at the bottom of normal.

Any thoughts?

thoughts on what?

you say you are taking T, but not what your T levels were or any of the standard blood test results - Estradiol, DHT, etc. or what your original readings were.

Besides your terrible Cholestrol and Vit D numbers, you are not listing any symptoms or problems you are having. Out of control T can lead to Cholestrol problems (I believe).

Can you give us more to go on? Like you symptoms, what you are currently taking besides 100mg T, and what type of T you are taking?

You may just want to keep all of your posts in one thread (if you posted this information before) so that you don’t have to repost the same information time and time again.

Please keep all updates part of your original post so there is context. I am not going to go looking for it. Add this to the other post then you can request a mod to delete this one.

Thoughts on what to do about low vit D, and shgb!

My TT original was 188 (250-1100), E2 was 23 (13-54) with FT 50.8 (35-155) and started 5mg androgel. TT dropped to 125 ng/ dl. Started 200mg test cypionate every 2 weeks and levels were 375ng/dl at 7 days after injection. Doc upped dose to 300mg every 2 weeks. Had severe mood swings and insomnia. Convinced doc to let me do injections at home more frequently. I do 100mg every week injected EOD. Just started the EOD about 1 1/2 weeks ago.

I have bad cholesterol levels even though I eat well and track everything I eat. I exercise 4 days a week. I have high blood pressure. (around 145/80…not terribly high) But I can’t seem to get it down no matter what I weigh or how much I exercise. I used to have very low energy and always wanted to take naps. I have anxiety. I had low sex drive. After starting the trt EOD I have much better energy and sex drive. Anxiety is still pretty high.

Meds I take:
pravastatin 10mg (just started)
Amlodipine 2.5mg (just started for high blood pressure) now running about 135/75
Lexapro 5mg (for anxiety)
Test cypionate 100mg/ week
liquidex .15mg EOD (just started taking it)

I don’t have an earlier post with my symptoms and original labs. I believe my first post was about having insomnia on 300mg cypionate every 2 weeks. I just recently found this site.

You have more than one thread started by you.

You can get HDL up with high strength vit-B supplements. The statin drug may help with that too.

Hematocrit 49.2 is rather high. You need to watch that. It can be part of the BP. You need to read about endothelial dysfunction to find out more about what is happening. Search for that on lef.org

Get some 2000 or 5000 iu vit-D oil based caps and take 5000-8000iu per day then retest after 6 weeks. Hardasnails might advise what time period is needed for levels to respond before testing makes sense.

Please list your supplements.

You can get your own tests done on your own out-of-pocket if need be, lef.org.

You’d be surprised at how many people think they have a good diet, but it is absolute shit. Can you quantify your diet? If you are following the government food pyramid and not the advice on this site, then you probably don’t have as good of a diet as you think you do.

Thanks! I don’t know what hematocrit is but it seems to have risen. From a lab about 2 years ago it was 45.9 and now it is 49.2.

I will get some Vit d supps. What about spending more time in the sun? Isn’t that how the body makes it’s own vit D?

Typical day

   breakfast

        1 large egg
        1/2 cup egg whites
        1 whole wheat mini bagel
2 cups kashi high protein ceral
        2 cups skim milk
        1 banana
        1 scoop whey protein
        1 tbsp flax seed oil

   snack
pure protein power bar (20g protein)

   lunch

         ground turkey
         black beans
         dark red kidney beans
         1 tbsp flax seed oil

    snack
          pure protein power bar

    Dinner
1 PBJ (whole wheat bread, natural PB, low sugar jelly)
           2 cups brocolli, cauliflower, carrots
2 cups rasberry, blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry
           1 cup yogurt
           1 cup chocolate milk

    snack
          2 scoops protein powder drink

    snack
1/4 cup mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc.) no salt
          kashi wholegrain cookie

total I eat around 3000 Calories, 100g fat (20g sat), around 220g Protein, around 375g carbs
30%P 40%C 30%F

less than 2000mg nacl. and about 40g Fiber. I eat the 1 large egg and 1/2 cup egg whites 3X a week.

Not bad…that is along the lines of what I recommend to people seeking nutrition advice. I usually have higher fats and proteins, with less carbs, but right down that alley. Sounds like good clean food choices. Not sure why your HDL is in the shitter.

For the record, I eat similarly to you (but like I said with less carbs and more fats/protein) and my HDL is only like 36. No idea why.

regulating vitamin D and thyroid can replace statin drugs.
LOw vitamin D can affect thyroid, insulin regulation which results in low shbg
Low SHBG = low thyroid, high insulin levels.
AKA metabolic syndrome
High tri and LDL = low thyoid and/or high insulin

One doctor thought I might have metabolic syndrome and tested insulin levels and they came out normal. I don’t remember numbers but I think it was in the mid-range. And I think I have decent thyroid numbers above. I asked to have Ft4 and ft3 tested but I don’t see them on the labs. From an old lab my ft4 is 1.0 (.8-1.8) and my ft3 was 330 (230-420)

I also read that low vit d can cause higher blood pressure…
