I was flipping through the channels today and saw where the House of Representatives signed a bill to allow prescription drugs to be sent in from overseas distributors. (CNN) I didn’t really catch the details, but does this mean that the floodgates could be opened to any and every drug, including steroids? If all these overseas prescription drugs were being shipped into the U.S., there is no way customs could check all the shipments to stop illegal substances. If anyone else has seen this or knows any details, or if I totally misinterpreted, please post.
There’s no Senate approval yet of a similar
bill, and any effort there, I have read,
is expected to have a lot of trouble; and
even if there is a Senate bill and then
a successful joint bill makes it through
committee, reportedly Bush would likely veto.
Also what I read about this, though it may
not be correct, was that this is supposed to
be a system for prescriptions by US doctors
to be fillable from overseas pharmacies, possibly with the pharmacy receiving the
prescription electronically or by fax, rather
than being a system where people could self-prescribe drugs and then order them from overseas. So the bill may not be helpful at all, except in reducing cost, and almost certainly would not de-criminalize controlled substances.
hey this atleast (import/export stuff as well as interstate stuff) is something that the Feds can legally control.
