New Hampshire Training

Just wondering. A pattern wasn’t jumping out at me. In any case, it works. I would love to be able to squat, deadlift and bench like you do. Heck, I’d just like to be able to squat and deadlift…lol.

stone lifting
walk around block (1/2 mile)

I need to tune myself up. Knee hurts, back aches and I was in pain walking only 1/2 mile. What does benching, squatting and deadliftng big numbers mean if you can’t move in real life. I need to lose weight, single leg training, stretch and walk a couple times a week.

That is so true about lifting heavy but not being able to move. I’m trying to get much more of the tune up type work into my week and so far it’s helping but I’m not moving nearly as much weight as you are.

What kind of single leg work are you thinking about doing? Do you think that helps your overall mobility?

james

Start off just walking. Actually helps loosen you up, too. Vary your stride til you find the one works best for you.

Sorry for the whining guys. I try not to do that too often.

James, there have been a couple good single leg training articles on here recently. I’m just going to reread those.

Harry, after all the miles you’ve walked and the huge weights you’ve thrown around for years I think I’ll take your advice.

Harry is right walking is good.

As you start to lose the weight start lightly sprinting and jumping exercises—works wonders for feeling good and not be an old cranky strong but can’t do shit man.

If interested I can help you program them into your weekly training sessions.

Also if you have some light rocks throwing is awesome too.

Thanks Rick. I’ll hit you up for some ideas real soon. Just let me get a foundation down first.

Only one word to describe this workout - UGLY -. I almost fell down a couple times. Had to catch myself. My balance should improve quickly. It can’t get any worse.

Nice variety Steve. And strong MPs, as usual.

My balance sucks as well. You will adapt…unless, of course, you follow my lead and just avoid anything the requires balance.

MP 270x3. Now thats a strong MP. Try and catch you some day.

Does the single leg stuff or sled dragging hurt your back? If not join the single leg training for big unbalanced guys with me. Come on you want to.

That is an interesting question. I have never really done single leg squats or deads. Lunges make it hurt like heck, though, just in a slightly different way. It hurts the same area, just differently…hard to explain.
I don’t know if that would be true for the squats and deads. As long as I keep it light, I might be okay. It is worth a try at least.

The downside is that my back is really fragile. Doing seated rows aggravates it. Of course, if I lost half a ton of weight, it might help.

I guess these are called restoration or adding volume workouts. Just felt like doing something.

work:
chin ups, push ups, ab rolls

home:
trap bar high handle deads 135x20,20
MP 95x20,20
wrist rolls 3 sets
ab rolls 2 sets

I did an ad lib arm workout today. Just needed to burn off some steam.

Sent you a pm…

LOL…that sounds like me. You’re right about balance improving quickly though. I started doing step ups on a really high box and that helped me out considerably and I can actually balance semi-decent. I’m glad I’m not the only lunk with balance problems though.

500 lb squat…great balance
500 lb deadlift…great balance
BW reverse lunge…swinging my arms around trying not to fall

How strange is that?

Often… But they can also be very fatiguing and serve a good end.

dragged sled for 5 songs (? 20-25 minutes)

Took my oldest son to a local sand pit and let him bomb around on his 4 wheeler. I walk/ran chasing him all around for quite awhile. I haven’t run in a long time and it felt great.

Wait…running felt great? Wow! You know, I think there are meds to correct that way of thinking.

Is this a homemade sled?

Skip,I’d had very little to eat on Saturday and had done a ton of work around the yard. So when I got down to the sand pit with my son I was feeling all light and airy. Running just seemed like the right thing to do.
My sled is just a tractor trailor tire with an eye bolt to hook on to. Basic and cheap.
