New Hampshire Lifter II

Well there is that. You already are kinda a beast. BTW I’m on the Celtics wagon too.

Thanks guys. I took a few days off from lifting and did work around the yard and hung out with the family.

  1. 17’’ box cambered bar squats barx10 175,225,265,310x5 350x10 390,410x1 430x2
  2. Deadlifts 245,295,325,375x3 415,465x2

5/29

  1. 7 or 8 sets x 5-7 reps jumps on and in/out of big tire
  2. 5 hill jogs and walks

Thought a few jumps might be fun. The tire’s only like 2 feet wide but it’s perfect for a 275 lb 48 year old man. I havent jumped up on anything for a long time so I was a bit skittish the first few jumps. The hill jogs were going to be sprints until my right achilles twinged.

One of the things “mature throwers” frequently discuss is the disappearance of our jumping ability. While most of us were forced to do a reverse (switch legs to keep from fouling) at the end of a throw when we were young the need to reverse gets less the older we get.

Harry, jumping and sprinting are overrated. That’s what I tell myself.

1a. Bench + micro mini bands barx2 sets 95,135,185,210,245x5 275x8 135x25,21
1b. Cambered bar rows barx20 135,185,225,275,225,225,225x5 135x2x25
2a. Lateral raise 3 sets
2b. Band pull aparts 3 sets
3. Pushdowns 1 all out set
4. Db curls 1 all out set

I don’t include the band tension with the bench weight. But I think it adds 35-40 lbs at the top.

I walked and hill jogged in the backyard. Worked up a good sweat and was easy on the joints. Enjoying a cold diet Canada Dry now.

Your backyard must be a lifter’s Disneyland.

Biker, I have collected a few fun toys in the backyard. I’m sure you’d enjoy lifting the stones and flipping the tires.

I couldn’t sleep and was up at 5:30 this morning. Outside doing yard work by 6 and lifting stones by 7. Not sure why but I was full of piss and vinegar as soon as I opened my eyes. Go figure.

We do have similar attitudes, you’re just @#$%^&stronger.

That’s lunch time where I come from !!! Hey Steve workouts looking good and varied…have a great summer

Biker, you are too kind.
Paul, do you sleep?

My back and left elbow both decided to act up. Tonight was the first time I’ve trained since last Saturday. But I felt good after a few warmup sets. I tried some rest pause stuff and higher reps. I hate using a clock to time sets but overall I enjoyed this workout.

  1. MP (warmup) 185x11 then 2 reps every 20 seconds for 22 more reps
  2. Cambered bar rows (warmup) 235x12 then 2 reps every 20 seconds for 24 more reps
  3. DB bench 75’s x18,10,7
  4. Chin ups BWx7 1 or 2 reps every 20 seconds for 14 more reps
  5. Straight bar curls barx25,15,12
  6. Band pushdowns x45,15

My oldest turned 19 two days ago. I call him Popeye because his forearms are as big as his upper arms. He pulled 455 double overhand a couple years ago.

I like the presses. Is there a theory behind it? Nice staging of the fruit in the picture. Good looking kids.

Thanks Harry. The fruit shows my artistic side. I read this article the other day. Sounded interesting.

Were you that big at 19?

Biker, I wasn’t as big as my son at 19. I’m still not. He’s built different than I am. All his joints are thicker. His fingers are like sausages and his calves are big even though he’s never done calves.

  1. Walking and hill jogging for a half hour
  2. 5 sets of jumps on the big tire

  1. 17’’ box cambered bar squats barx10 175x10 225x5 265x5 315x5 355x3 405x3 445x3
  2. 15’’ box 265x2x5
  3. Got outside for some stone lifts.

This was a fun workout but may have been a bad idea seeing that my back was really aching earlier in the week. Never said I was smart. See what a couple ibuprofen can do for me.
And for what it’s worth the cambered squat bar is the best piece of equipment I’ve bought in a long time. I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to straight bar squats.

6/12

  1. 17’’ box cambered bar squats with chains barx10 135,175,225,265,315,355x5 405x3 445x2

  2. Bench with chains barx10 95,135,185,225x5 275x4 315x1 135x25

  3. Hang cleans 135x10,6

  4. Outside for a bunch of stone lifts (singles)

Not sure how much the chains added but this is the set up I used for both bench and cambered bar squats. The camber bar hangs so low I didn’t have to change the chain length for bench.
