Also is there a safe and easy way to see results quick? In a few months…
You’ve come to the right place. First, remember that you can’t turn fat into muscle. They’re two separate entities. Unless you’re new to weight training, it’s nearly impossible to lose fat while gaining muscle. What I would suggest is to make sure you know which one you’re aiming for (from your post, it seems like fat loss is the primary goal), and then plan accordingly. Diet is paramount in both losing the bad weight and gaining the good weight. I would suggest doing a search on this site for “The Diet Manifesto” and then starting a food log as outlined in “The Missing Ingredient.” In terms of your training, you definitely need to add in more of the core movements (Deadlifts, Squats, Bench Presses, Cleans, Dips, etc). These exercises are great for activating many large and small muscle groups simultaneously, which essentialy gives you more bang for your training buck. Plus, the larger muscles you train have more growth potential than smaller ones, and the more they grow, the higher your metabolic rate. Plus, core exercises allow you to burn more calories during each session. In other words, don’t mess around with leg extensions when you could be squatting. It might be a good idea to add in a few cardio sessions per week either after your weight training or on off-days. My main suggestion would be to read through the past issues here at T-Mag to learn about proven methods and how to apply them to your situation. And by the way, never look to “see easy results quick.” You will have to work hard for all your gains, as nothing comes easy. Best of luck.
Lance,
First, you cannot change fat into muscle, It’s impossible. What you can do is increase your muscle mass and decrease your fat mass. You need a good workout program and a sound diet. Do a search on this site for “Meltdown Training” by Don Alessi. This is a tough program, but will work fairly quickly. Also do a search for “The Diet Manifesto”, and also Massive Eating. These articles will point you in the right dietary direction. Hope this helps. Good Luck
Squats Lance. That will help raise your T levels and speed up your metabolism. Some cardio 3 times a week would help too but if you do not work your legs hard, you will be disappointed in the rest of your results. Obviously, diet needs to a top consideration as well but that is so obvious I feel foolish even mentioning it.
Lance, if your serious about this, start by reading every back issue of T-Mag. That’s honestly the best advice I can give you. If you make it through every issue, come back to the forum and do a search for this post. Re-read what you wrote. You will be able to answer your own questions.
