OK, here is the deal. About a year ago i was in a bad accident messed up my self real good. But thanks to God I made a full recovery and now i am back into sports mainly track and field. Anyway need an edge on my competition and i believe that eatin right can do that.Because of this site i know how important it is to eat rite to improve performance. I am a high school student, 6 feet tall and 145lbs. I currently run the 400m, 200m and i do Long Jump. I need any information about what and how much i should be eatin for peak performance. If u need any information about any thing else let me know. Thanks.
6 foot 145 eh…a few words come to mind…YOU NEED TO EAT. The lowest I could ever get myself to (I’m 6 foot also) was 158…and I was freaking tiny, under a 30 waist and looked like a chemo patient facially. You need to read Massive Eating and follow it as well as you can.
The first part of it will tell you how many calories you need to eat and explain it:

There is also a calculator you can use to make it easier.
Then you need to read part 2 to learn how to apply the calories:

Then read Massive Eating Reloaded part 1 to get a bit more in-depth and learn how to individualize it,Then part 2:

Also I’d go to the Authors section of this site and check out Ian King’s Program (do a concurrent upper body and lower body program along with his 12 weeks to oustanding abdominals). That should be a good start.
I hope this helps.
Jason
Thanks for the info but i need a little more help tho. I’m already in the gym 3 mornings of the week before school doin deadlifts, cleans, snatches, C&J, bench presses etc.(very good coach) and we work abs and lower back extremly hard.Lol i know that i need to eat but the thing that i am worryin bout is if that kinda mass will mess with my performance because the track season is almost here. Will the programs help in my performance or just to put on mass? And those exercises should help to put on muscle mass as well as increase performance rite?
Bonez:
You’re right in that you need to be concerned about too much mass interfering with your events. My advice to you would be to try to PM some of the strength coaches on here (Coach Davies, Dan Johns, etc) to see if they will point you in the right direction. Be careful of people who instantly say you need to eat more and gain mass. The world class athletes in your events are not typically built like 100m sprinters (look at Michael Johnson and Jeremy Wariner, etc) and they are the ones you should be trying to be like right now. But eating right is always the best start.
Good Luck,
DB
Thanks DB. Anyone has any more advice that they can give?
My general advice for overall health and performance-- don’t be duped by the bullshit myth that saturated fat and dietary cholesterol are unhealthful and make sure to get enough of these in your diet.
This myth is unfortunately alive even among otherwise well-read bodybuilders and other athletes. This is partly owing to the fact that all the magazines, websites and forums you’ll come across routinely champion the omega 3 flax and fish oils, which of course is well-warranted, given their incontestable virtues. However, curiously lacking from these mediums is the equally vital championing of saturated fats and cholesterol which are the dominant percursors to testosterone production.
For exceedingly comprehensive documentation of the importance of these nutrients and an eye-opening array of nutritional myth busters check out www.westonaprice.org
