I had a problem with Mobsters too. What I did was put a hit out on the most troublesome ones and had them killed. Another thing I did is I grew my own mob to a size that noone wants to mess with me because they know it is going to be bloody. Here is a great place to find people who will want to mob up with you and do some killing.

Have you thought about finding the smaller weaker gang, then doing jobs for them slowly working your way up the ladder. Then start buying properties and weapons, maybe a nightclub. Once you have enough respect go pick up some members of your new gang -you became the leader of it after you killed the previous leader in his mansion, as he was an asshole and was selling you out to your rival gang- and steal all of the other gangs turf.
Then you’ve completed the game and can just run vigilante and taxi jobs.
