A 600# tire would be similar to 300#-400# in hand/deadlift.
Also, if any of you guys live around the Omaha, NE area, send me a PM and you can come and try out some of the equipment we will be using.

I’ll be there.

Since you said there’s no stupid questions…
I’d fit into the middleweights, currently, and I have a 1RM dead of ~400 pounds. How does that relate to flipping a six hundred pound tire? I’ve never done that before, and a 600 pound tire is a bit out of my price range for a lark. [/quote]
I STRONLY also suggest getting a lighter tire like 400-500 to start nail the form tire flippin is BIG technique. I couldnt flip the 500 we had that well and in one day was flipping it like a champ. 16 flips in 50 yards about 45 second great conditioning as well.
use it for speed and endurance work then get a heavy tire 600+ and the work you have done on the small one will pay off. I was able to move to a 400kg 880lbs for solid triples before I left thailand between the speed and over load work it really helped with the comp tire weight.
Hit those DLs and IMO the sumo dl and hip drive helps a ton as do cleans and learning that explosion Im no pro though just my take,
Phill
That is some impressive tire flipping, 880lbs. for triples Phil. I think the heaviest I have flipped was 800# and it wasn’t for triples. Ha Ha

Thanks man Those triples were all OUT im talking seeing stars ready to puke. was able to pull of 2 set one day that was my best them like 3 single and couldnt budge that damn thing from there. But hell it was progress.
that took some building up to as well singles then a few weeks later a double then one day brought everything I had.
thats was near 3 months ago havent touched a tire since am looking to get 3 or so different sizes here very shortly.
Phill
Ah forgot 1 other benefit of getting a lighter tire 400-500 lbs. Grip work flip that damn thing for the course then get in it lift it like a trap bar dl you can only use the figer tip just well because its a tire and farmer walk it back to the start. Works great hell of a little medely as well.
Have a pic or two of me doing it in my Thailand thread buried over in the photo section if interested.

? for you.
What surface are the events on grass, pavement etc.?
Phill
DJ, this looks pretty cool. I am hoping to do a couple of bodybuilding shows in May, but would have about 8 weeks after that to really focus on the training for this. I suppose you have the equipment hanging out in your backyard for you to train with??
I know you addressed this with another poster, but I’m still not clear. In the middle class Farmer’s Walk, will I be walking with 230lbs in each hand or 115 in each hand?
Steel log for the comp?
Also, could you post pics of the Farmer’s Walk implements and the yoke, please. I want to make sure I’m training as close as possible to what we’ll be using.
Thanks.

Great, thanks Phill.
Phill is correct, the farmers are 230# in each hand.
The event will be held on an asphalt parking lot.
Phill is correct again, 12" steel logs will be used.
I have some stuff in my yard but most everything is at a guys house in Council Bluffs, IA.
As far as pics of the stuff goes, the closest I can get for you is to go to this link www.marunde-muscle.com/pitbull.html
The farmers are the square tubing ones.
Hope this helps.

On a side note, I have all the awards in and ready to go. I hope everyone likes them, I put alot of thought into them and they are pretty unique. Time to work on more sponsors and goody bags.

Phill
Right on Phill can’t wait to see some action shots.
I am thinking on heading out there I wanted to do a strongman this summer. If everything go’s right I should be able to train at Diablo barbell out here in california and get my tire flip, farmers walk ETC up to speed doing compound edt and strongman together should bring me in pretty conditioned for the meet.

sweet hope to see you there.
Ok Phill I just signed up at Diablo Barbell today for 7 month’s of conjugated training my next step will be to send off my application next week (when I get paid) this will be some fun shit I can’t wait.
Eric
Phill - got your entry buddy. You are in my friend, no turning back now, just train, train, train. You are going to have a blast.
Eric - it would be great to have you out. It is going to be a great time and you will love competing in strongman.
On a side note, kneebar came out and trained with us Friday night. This guy has got a good future ahead of him in this sport. He did a great job for never touching the implements before. He worked the log, yoke, farmers and stones.
That is half the battle, just show up and do it. Don’t think you can’t because you can. It is like anything else, it just takes time and practice to get better.
D.J.
Just a reminder that all competitors will need a current NAS card to compete, they will be able to be purchased the day of the contest. Thanks.
