NBA Free Agency/Offseason

I guess all the news has been shared.

Ilgauskas to MIA

Tyson Chandler and Alex Ajinca to DAL for Dampier, Najera and Matt Carroll

So I guess the rest of the deal fell apart? Barbosa staying in PHX, Calderon/Turk staying in TOR?

If I’m not mistaken, Calderon was originally supposed to be part of s/t with MIA and was going there with Bosh.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Rondo has a broke J, especially for a PG?

He does. And he’ll need to fix it if he’s ever going to be really effective as a PG.

My point is Bell is an overrated defender, and you act as if the big 3 are all Miami has. Haslem, they just acquired Z, Miller, I see Chalmers improving, Arroyo. This team is solid and can definitely match up with LA.
Miller is the only other one worth mentioning. Yes, based on their roster so far, the big 3 are most of what Miami has. And no, Miami will definitely have match up problems against Orlando, the Lakers and possibly the Celtics if they are healthy. Comes back to length, size and rebounding.

On another note, it’s funny how I keep hearing it’s a PG-driven league now. The funny thing is, the Lakers have won the last 2 championships and have no elite PG.

No not really but an improved J makes him unguardable.

Nah, he definitely is bad at them. In the Finals the Lakers were giving him open shots from mid range and beyond because they knew that a) he couldn’t make them, and b)he was afraid to take them. He made afew of them in one of the games and it bit the Lakers in the ass, but otherwise he was a really bad jumpshooter.

But I agree that if he developed a better shot he’d be hard to stop. He’s too quick and good with the glass, and he’s a good enough passer. All he really needs is a better mid-range and long distance shooting.

Again, you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. When your defender is dropping off of you at least 6 + feet from 12 feet out from the hoop and Rondo’s still not shooting a) the defender knows his J is broke b) the fans know his J is broke and c) Rondo knows his J is broke.

Doesn’t mean he won’t improve it in the offseason and I fully expect him too but don’t tell me it ain’t broke. Drewh’s opinion = shit.

No shit he has a bad jumper I just disagree that his lack of J makes him ineffective at point.

lol @ Durant’s retirement.

A Lakers-Knicks rivalry would be sweet.

He’s still a good PG, but it is something to worry about come playoff time. That’s when teams really start to zero in on an opposing player’s weakness.

The only reason Rondo’s bad J and the Lakers capitalizing on it wasn’t more obvious was because Boston was able to get him the ball quickly in transition, which is where he shines brightest anyway. But then, when they couldn’t get him the ball that way he sort of disappeared. When they didn’t respect his mid range ability it hurt his ability to find an open man to pass to as well, as the players could pay more attention to guarding the other Celtics. They didn’t have to worry about rebounding a potential shot–they knew he was too scared to take one from there.

So now thats:

PG Chalmers
SG Wade
SF James
PF Bosh
C Ilgauskas

Reserves:
Miller
Haslem

Looks like a pretty solid team to me.
Considering they only had the Trio and Chalmers a few days ago, it looks like they may very well build a sick team by the time the season starts. It’s already starting to look good; depth’s starting to show up.

I still feel like the Celtics are the team to beat in the East [of course, this is without the Heat filling out their roster yet]. Barring an injury to Garnett, that is. They may not even dominate in the regular season, but this is a team that knows how to turn it up in the playoffs, and they actually play to the opposing team’s weaknesses better than most.

I know age of the Big 3 is a factor, but if you look at the stats of the Big 3, especially in this years post-season, they’re not as important. They all average under 20 ppg I think. And Pierce and Allen just don’t play a style that really is hampered by age [the best example of a player that does would be Amare I guess].

Jermaine O’Neal just another cheap, depth player that’ll really come in handy in the post-season, if for nothing else than having another big body there. He was cheap.

NEW: SAS just finalized extension with Matt Bonner

Big Z will retire after the next season. He obviously signed with Miami to win a championship.

Lakers starting 5:

Kobe
Gasol
Artest
Bynum
Fisher

Looks very good.

But Heat starting 5:

Wade
Bosh
LeBron
Ilgauskas
Chalmers

Also looks very good.

Surprisingly the Heat are bigger.

I’ve always liked Wade. He lacks the finesse of Kobe or the power of LeBron, but he’s really fucking good, if not a bit streaky. Watching him tear up the games while at Marquette is crazy.

Dan Gilbert and others have 7 FUCKING YEARS to build a decent team around LeBron and couldn’t get it done. And David Stern was right to fine Gilbert for $100k :

if the players are fined/punished for not dressing up for post-game conferences (cited for lack of professionalism as a reflection on their organizations), then it’s equally unprofessional for an owner to essentially defame a player the way Gilbert did to LeBron.
Yeah David Stern had no choice but to fine Dan Gilbert for that letter. He would have been seen a hypocrite if he didn’t punish an owner for being unprofessional the same way he fines players for being unprofessional.

However some players should be exempt from any punishment even if their behavior can be perceived to be unprofessional or stupid, like Allen Iverson and Shaq O’Neil.

Sad that Tyson Chandler went from being a very promising young big man being traded for a guy (Dampier) that Charlotte will waive to save money.

What?!? The Heat are bigger? You’ve done lost your mind. Even your basic analysis sucks monkey balls.

Kobe - 6’7" 220
Gasol - 7’ 250
Bynum - 7’ 285
Artest - 6’7" 260
Fisher - 6’1" 210

Average starting five height: 6’8" weight: 245 lbs

Wade - 6’4" 210
Bosh - 6’10" 228
LeBron - 6’8" 240
Ilgauskas - 7’3" 260
Chalmers - 6’1" 190

Average starting five height: 6’7.5" weight: 225 lbs

Umm so. Once again, you’re an idiot. Reducing the impact of Ilgauskas’s size and weight (which skews Miami’s numbers up in height and weight) since he shoots jumpers from 20 feet out, doesn’t rebound, and doesn’t move well; and you have a Lakers team that is slight taller and definitely bigger, stronger, etc. Never mind the bench with a 6’10" Lamar Odom.

Again, your analysis is useless and sucks ass.

Okay this is getting ridiculous. Not only are you unnecessarily name calling but you’re skewing numbers. Kobe is 6’6 and probably 210-215. LeBron at 240lbs? Dude hes at least 260lbs…

If you want to talk athletic ability the Heat win. Bosh is more athletic than Gasol, no need for explanation on LeBron and Wade, and Chalmers vs. Fisher…yeah.

If you want to talk bench, the Heat have Haslem, sitting next to Mike Miller and possibly Juan Howard.

Maybe you need to take a deep breath and calm down?

LBJ is 250
Wade 212
Bosh 230

Kobe is 205 pounds don’t know where you got 220

Randman wishing he was Katelyn Faber since the summer of 03.
