NBA Free Agency/Offseason

Also why are people so hyped on Joe Johnson anyway? Dude is not a max contract guy. He shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same setance as real max conact guys like Kobe, LBJ, D Wade, Melo, Durant, Duncan ect… Hell even Dirk!

Similar to what Flash said earlier in the thread, he’s not a max contract guy, like Rashard Lewis, but teams think those guys are worth the max. Maybe for securing the guy to play on your team instead of jumping ship is the team’s rationale to pay them the big bucks.

Johnson - along with Stoudamire, Bosh, Gay, basically anyone not named James or Wade in this years crop of FA’s - is a top flight #2, but not a main guy. Max contracts need to be reserved for true game changers, and right now there are only a handful of guys I’d be comfortable putting on that list. “Home teams” sign these guys to big deals 'cause they’re the face of the franchise and allowing them to jump ship sets the franchise back as far as PR is concerned. The problem is locking them to a max deal doesn’t necessarily improve the ball club immediately and generally sets the franchise back in terms of winning. Atlanta has not improved. Memphis has not improved, and just drafted Henry [I’m sure in anticipation of Gay leaving] and now has a logjam at the 2 & 3 positions. If Stoudamire can’t find max money he’ll probably stay in Phoenix, but if someone will pay him he’s gone, but the only team he makes a potential threat is the one he’s already on. All this does is lock up money for several years while keeping the ball clubs in limbo: Too good to get high draft picks, not good enough to contend and not enough money to sign big FA’s that push them into contention. It’s a really shitty business move all the way around.

Apparently with Dallas Dirk could resign for 4 years and 96 mill is he wanted to. I imagine by the fourth year he`d be the highest paid player in the league, unless Kobe deal has him getting paid more.

And he’d get a no-trade clause with that contract, something only Kobe has. Think it’s safe to say Dirk’s staying put.

Not that this is news to most, but Stoudemaire`s gone for sure.

The article links it to the Suns signing Hakim Warrick to a 4 year 18 mill contract. So I take it the Suns was to replace Amare with Warrick. Which seems like a downgrade right now, but with the Suns and Steve Nash his signing may work out well. Im not too sure about what his skills are or whether hed fit in. Or how similar his style is to Amare`s.

And the Knicks have reportedly offered Amare 5 years and 100 million.

According to Comcast Sports Chicago on Twitter, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are together at the office of their agent, Henry Thomas, along with Chicago Bulls management on Friday night. This is obviously getting uglier for the Heat by the minute. And you also have to wonder if LeBron would also be there if he was in Chicago and not Cleveland. And speaking of LeBron, his swap to make his meeting with the Bulls his final one? It’s looking like a bigger part of the story than ever. At this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if all three players agree to take lower, matching salaries to somehow make a deal work, but that’s obviously just speculation.

Bosh and D-Wade at CHI this evening. Wade’s second talk with CHI in 24 hours. Sources say heavily leaning to CHI. Bosh will probably follow if this happens.

Dirk offered max deal

Amar’e apparently offered $100M with NYK

LBJ meeting with MIA, LAC today, CLE tomorrow

Steve Blake signs with LAL

You should be a preacher because this is gospel right here.

Apparently Wade is ‘intrigued’ by NYK.

Yes, I’m also ‘intrigued’ by Vida Guerra’s ass.

Would he really be that rich? I mean aren’t Joe Johnson and A’mare looking at bigger potential money (100m+)?

Yeah they are looking at more money long-term, but Dirk will make more money per season. JoJo’s proposed deal is 6 yrs/119M, Amar’e is 5 yrs/100M, so they’ll each pull ~$20M/season. Dirk will pull ~$24M/year and probably be back loaded so he’ll make less than $24M the first year and possibly $27-30M his fourth year.

Oh yep money cheers for clearing that up.

Wheres Randman, he must be happy Lakers signed Steve Blake. They’re the defending champions and they still make one of the first moves in free agency season…

I hope the Knicks sign Amare and Joe Johnson for a combined 220 million. That would be a bigger waste of money than the fucking BP Oil Spill

.greg.

We dont even know how good A’mare is without Steve Nash

not 100 million dollars good

That’s an interesting move. Are they going to end up moving Farmar and having Blake come off the bench, or is Fisher maybe not coming back, or just stockpiling good guards?

I’m pretty sure he’s Farmar’s replacement.

Ya I didn’t realize he was an FA now, guess I should have googled that before my post not after, oops.

Deal makes a whole lot more sense now =p

Hello, here I am. You got that right! Let’s see…a true veteran point guard that is pass first, can play some defense, and is a 3 point sharp shooter? Check, check, check and check.

Now we need a backup center since we probably won’t keep Powell and/or Mbenga. That and make sure you resign Fish and this team is primed to threepeat with PJ coming back.

Yes, I’m very pleased with this signing by the Lakers.
