NBA Free Agency/Offseason

I don’t know Bout that LD… News always reports scandals and why would they not report it cause it involved a mom but will report all day about Tiger Woods cheating on his wife a million times?

.greg.
The mainstream sports new stations/publications weren’t the instigators in the Tiger reporting IIRC. Once it becomes the elephant in the room it’s hard to ignore it. But for the most part shows like SC, and the opinion shows/columns on the big time sports media I go to have been pretty easy on Tiger. It’s the other non-sports media that have been vicious.

This story wasn’t big and didn’t end up being confirmed in embarrassing fashion like Tiger’s. I was joking about the sex tape [and…WOULD NOT WATCH, btw], but if the relationship was confirmed it would probably get a mention then get downplayed in a similar fashion.

Also, if it came to light that she’s been mashed on by several players then it might make the news. Then again, it might all get swept under the rug like anyother thing that can be percieved as a negative about James.

Will there be deals that take place at 12:01 tonight since that is officially the start of free agency? Is that at all likely?

I think LeBron will hear the presentations and stuff teams have for him first, so I see him signing maybe a week after the 1st. That alone will slow down the movement of a few other players/teams closely watching what he does. Like NJ, who don’t even look like they have any plans other than nabbing Chris Paul to lure James.

Maybe Joe Johnson/Amare to NY could happen tomorrow morning.

Also, players like Pierce who may opt out could do that as well [but I’m pretty sure they can do it now anyway].

I’m pretty sure LeBron already knows what he’s gonna do. It’s already known that Bosh, Wade and LBJ have already gotten together to talk about their futures. I’m pretty sure they all already know what’s going down so I don’t think the “courting” process will take very long but that’s just my take on things.

I agree, but I think he’ll be nice and pay attention to each teams presentations and what they have to offer anyway. Some have gone pretty far to woo him.

Pretty sure most - if not all - of 'em know where they’re going. Also pretty sure they’ve already gotten every kind of under the table pitch you can imagine. If any of this takes any time then it’s either formalities or good old fashioned stalling. I still don’t think that 3 big name players will/would play on the same team, and I still don’t think James goes to Chicago. Guess we’ll see here soon.

Some news: Stephen A. Smith and Dan LeBetard are reporting that LeBron and Bosh are going to MIAMI. Apparently for TO the sign and trade involves getting Beasley and another player.

At this point I don’t know if he’s going to Chicago or Miami. It was supposed to be a sure bet for both teams. I give up.

Also: Doc Rivers is staying with Boston. If they keep the team together they’re still contenders IMO. Someone’s gonna have to take a paycut, however.

If Lebron and Bosh both teamed up with Wade in Miami that would be nuts. I dont really see that happening because most players are primadonas BUT if they all can stiffle their ego’s and be willing to take pay cuts and stat cuts in order to form a “dream team” and have a serious shot at a dynasty then I think its a smart move for them.

Its hard to imagine players doing that nowadays because the NBA is a IGM league (i got mine) but if these guys can play with a team concept (ala highschool and some college teams) then that would be insane and I would definitely have to show some respect for those guys. I see Wade as the kind of guy that could do a team up and be OK with it but I dont know about Bron and Bosh.

Yeam, I guess it’d have to be Wade who took the bigger hit between the two [and of ourse Bosh would]. That’s be weird though, Wade’s kind of the man in Miami, if the deals go through he’d have to be #2.

And ‘I Got Mine’ is a great song by the Black Keys:

Fun fact.

I heard somehwere today Lebron said he doesn’t mind taking a pay cut for championships. He said he would more than make up for it with off the court stuff if he has a few rings. If he can sell bosch and wade on that point, and they all sign in miami, you could be looking at an NBA finals lock for 3-5 years.

I wouldnt say “lock” because of possible injuries and we dont know where the other free agents will end up but they would definitely be favorites in the East every year probably

We’d fill up an entire thread doing it. Dallas would be a playoff team without Nowitzki, and even with him they can’t get out of the first round. Why’s he a sure fire HOF’er? 'cause he’s won an MVP? 'Cause he can hit 3’s? Look man, I’m the first person to say that Dallas got fucked out of wininng the chip against Miami. They got hosed. But, every year since they’ve done well in the regular season to get bounced early in the playoffs, and a big reason is that Dirk has wilted under the pressure. He’s a supporting actor, not a leading man. There are several guys who put up similar numbers who’s teams do just as well or better, but you’re not calling them future HOF’ers or game changers. You’re acting like they’re non-existant. Nowitzki is a helluva player, but he is nowhere near the 2nd best free agent on the market.
Have you ever seen Nowitzki play? We’re talking about a freakin 7 foot 40-45 FG, 40-45% 3 point shooter here. I’ve heard numerous analysts say how his fade away jump shot is one of the most deadliest weapons in the game right now. And yes I’m pretty sure any one from TNT or ESPN would tell you hes future HOF. Dude is a Dallas icon.

For me its a shame to even compare Dirk and Bosh. Dirks been playing in the West against Kobe, Tim Duncan, CP3 etc his whole career. The fact he still has better numbers on a team where his team is better than Bosh’s (youd expect Nowitzki to have higher numbers if hes playing on a shit team) should tell you something.

However I DO understand why some would rather have Bosh and Ill leave it at that.

You’re a good dude overall, and I’m not going to call you and idiot, but you have some really annoying tendencies.

A lot of your posts have good points, but then you mix them with some really bad logic. And worse than that, you throw out some accusations that are just plain stupid. On the first page of this thread, you called me a racist for not calling Manu Ginobili an elite player alongside Wade, LeBron, Bosh, etc. That’s ridiculous and you know it.

Now your accusing anyone who prefers Bosh over Dirk anti-European or anti-international or whatever. Flash and Greg both have made it clear they think Gasol is one of the best big men in the league, and neither said Dirk sucked. And I’m a CANADIAN who roots for the RAPTORS and the SUNS. I have no problems with international players. That’s the second time you’ve accused me of being prejudiced.

I don’t think you’re a troll, but it’s not an unreasonable suggestion when you look at the things I’ve pointed out.
C’mon dude I didnt call you a racist. I was pointing how how you should have had Manu up there or omitted Paul Pierce/Ray Allen from the ‘Elite list.’

When I say I don’t think international players get enough respect thats not really accusing you or anyone of being prejudice. So if you took offense to that I apologize.

I just feel theres seems to be a ambiance of egoism around here where everyones opinion is something more than an opinion…

Sigh. Once again, just 'cause someone scores differently doesn’t make them better. Also, a 45% shooter at 7 ft means he needs to get his big ass near the basket and stop shooting those “unstoppable fade-aways”, 'cause they seem to be stopping themselves…

^^hahahaha I know right? Your 7 feet tall. Get close and dunk on everyone! Thats what I would be doing. It doesnt make him a super spectacular player cause he’s a big man who decided not to play the position of a big man. I think Dirk is a great offensive player but he’s not gonna play D and get you the boards/blocks that Bosh would.

I think that is why people arent talking about Dirk as much as far as being teamed up with another superstar. Wades gonna get you points, LeBrons gonna get you points… You need a partner who can get boards, blocks, hustle plays, get clean up second chance points and score occasionally on offense.

I really think thats why people arent talking about Dirk as much because they’re looking for a Robin to LBJ’s Batman who can do the things above that I listed.

In Dirk’s defense, I looked up his career stats and he averages a block a game. Nothing great [especially for a 7 footer], but decent for a guy with his label. Even so, his label’s come from somewhere and he’s certainly earned it. Yeah he can put the ball in the bucket, and his shot opens up his driving game, but his career stats are on line with both Bosh’s and Stoudamire’s, and both those guys play some D and contribute more overall. Also, Stoudamire shoots 54% from the field for his career, but Get’s not calling him a future HOF’er. Look, Dirk can play. Don’t think anyone here would deny that. But, calling him the 2nd best player in the FA class and a sure fire HOF’er is the definition of “hyperbole”.

Why wont you admit that am not the only one that thinks hes the in the top 7 best players right now playing in the league and a future HOF?
