I think the East is still only a 2-horse race between MIA and CHI. If Chicago doesn’t get that second scorer MIA will be back at the finals next year

Some things I noticed:

I don’t need to get into the stuff before the Finals and even the early playoffs, but shit–did we just see the Heat, who may be destined for multiple rings and the bad guys of the NBA lose to a group of old fuckers who we thought would retire without any rings? And led by the ice cold…Dirk? I haven’t watched the NBA for as long as the older guys here but has anyone experienced a season this good?
-Gettinitdone was completely right…didn’t he pick Mavs over Heat as soon as the Spurs were eliminated? Meanwhike Rand’s world collapsed the way the playoff’s turned out.

All I can say for certainty is that this is by far the most I’ve gotten into a playoffs - I have never planned my daily schedule around watching this many non-Bulls games in one postseason. Maybe a couple series will fascinate me most years; I wanna say like 8 playoff series were must-watch TV for me this year.

Speaking of rand, we should’ve known the Mavs would beat the Heat because they beat the best Lakers team of the last 15 years back in round 2.
LOL!!!
Honestly, he is the one who made me want to see MIA win so badly. I was deadset on hating MIA until that convo about who would win a 7 game series between MIA and BOS

Nah I only picked the Mavs over the Lakers and Thunder. I think Flash picked Mavs in the Finals in 6. I didn’t even bother making a prediction for the Finals because I would’ve been happy either way, even if 'Bron and the Heat won.
Oh right never mind.
I think Flash called Mavs early but then Butler got injured and they looked weaker after that [Flash correct me if I’m wrong].
Someone called Mavs over Heat, though. Maybe it was Australian Mavericks fan Teledin. Definitely someone from down under.

The way Miami looks sometimes I don’t think it matters. That team seems unstoppable at times…I’m just glad they didn’t win it this year.

What? Are you serious!?! lol
EDIT: I saw the other posts ![]()
I love you guys too
Glad Dirk got a ring, glad Lebron is now 0/2 in the finals and thus never comparable to Jordan, and glad the NBA is this exciting again. It’s been a long road back from 98 (when I was really into the NBA, being a giant Jordan nut swinger).
Sweet revenge for '06
and redemption for the couple of playoff failures that Dallas had.
Mark Cuban couldn’t wait to finally talk to the press, that was an entertaining session =p
Okay…GREAT series and a great win for the MAVS…and I thought that Dirk and Terry were “money” everytime they put up a shot.
But something has already started that is REALLY getting on my nerves…and that is talking about the MAVS like they are “The Bad News Bears” ,“The Little Train that Could” or “Rudy”.
Bullshit.
-
These guys are “ballers”, so don’t act and talk like they are a rag-tag group of underachievers that beat the Big Bad Heat and
-
Their payroll is close (if not equal) to the Heat.
Again…great win, yes…and a team with “heart”…
But the MAVS won with a) skills and with b) a Team that was built with money, just like the Heat.
Mufasa
Have you guys heard “rumors” about the Heat putting themselves in the mix to sign “Superman” (Dwight Howard)?
(LA has already made their intentions known…)

Teams are built with money?!? Are you kidding me? How the hell else are they going to sign players?

Where are these rumors coming from? I would love to get Dwight since we need someone down low to clear the lanes for Wade and LeBron. But who the hell would we trade?
Longtime Mavs fan, here. I wish I would have seen this damn thread earlier. I would have had plenty to add.
Oh well. Here’s a little contribution.

But a good portion of that money was on the bench in the name of Caron Butler. Mavs won with resilience and teamwork.
I had a feeling at the beginning of the year that a team representing the antithesis of what the Heat supposedly represent in “individualism” and “star-power” would instead take the limelight. During the regular season that team was San Antonio, the old, veteran team that some how always won with players old enough to be coaches.
They won games with teamwork. In the playoffs it was the Mavericks that took that reign. Then in the Finals it accentuated into the perfect fight of contrasts: teamwork vs star power, old vs young, ground vs air, wily vs flashy.
In the end team won out. Not only did the Mavericks have much more depth than Miami they also played much more cohesively together.
Pretty sure I called Mavs in 6. Can’t find what page of the original thread it was on.
Congrats to Mavs fans. Glad Dirk got a ring. He is for sure in the top 20 all time.
