Teams are built with money?!? Are you kidding me? How the hell else are they going to sign players?
You know what I meant.

I should have said “Built with a LOT of money, just like the Heat”.

(Yes…Cuban opened up his checkbook…and even sort of eluded to it last night…)

Where are these rumors coming from? I would love to get Dwight since we need someone down low to clear the lanes for Wade and LeBron. But who the hell would we trade?
Miller, Dampier, Bibby, Ilgauskus…doable?? Probably not.

Okay…GREAT series and a great win for the MAVS…and I thought that Dirk and Terry were “money” everytime they put up a shot.

But something has already started that is REALLY getting on my nerves…and that is talking about the MAVS like they are “The Bad News Bears” ,“The Little Train that Could” or “Rudy”.

Bullshit.

 1. These guys are “ballers”, so don’t act and talk like they are a rag-tag group of underachievers that beat the Big Bad Heat and

 2. Their payroll is close (if not equal) to the Heat.

Again…great win, yes…and a team with “heart”…

But the MAVS won with a) skills and with b) a Team that was built with money, just like the Heat.

But a good portion of that money was on the bench in the name of Caron Butler. Mavs won with resilience and teamwork.

I had a feeling at the beginning of the year that a team representing the antithesis of what the Heat supposedly represent in “individualism” and “star-power” would instead take the limelight. During the regular season that team was San Antonio, the old, veteran team that some how always won with players old enough to be coaches. They won games with teamwork. In the playoffs it was the Mavericks that took that reign. Then in the Finals it accentuated into the perfect fight of contrasts: teamwork vs star power, old vs young, ground vs air, wily vs flashy.

In the end team won out. Not only did the Mavericks have much more depth than Miami they also played much more cohesively together.
Good post.

I’m glad you used the words “SUPPOSEDLY represent” when you talk about the Heat.

What the Heat (and by extension, LaBron) suffer from is horrible public relations, brought on by themselves.

“The Decision”…the over-the-top intro of “The Big Three”…Riley wanting to make them “Prime Time” before they had won a championship.

In addition to working on the best way to position themselves to win…the Heat would do best to work on their PR.

(Do you guys realize that IN CLEVELAND, there were more people in their Arena to watch LaBron lose than are at some teams regular season games?)

That’s bad!

Great Playoffs, great finals (even though I wanted the Heat to win). They still get props from me for steamrolling the East in the playoffs in their 1st year together. The were definitely the 2nd best team in the playoffs this year and deserved to be there. Dallas’s supporting cast stepped up the last couple games like they needed to and handled their business. As much as I disliked that franchise, I’ll give credit where it’s due.

I’m curious what Lebron does this offseason and next season. His game needs to change. The finals made his flaws within the Miami offense really stand out. Does they practice running him off screens? Do they work on his post game? Every great player has to evolve at some point. It should be very interesting.

I also think now finally the Jordan comparison’s (which were never warranted) can stop for good.

Funny thing is - we can’t say for sure the Mavs would have won if they had Butler and Beaubois, who are both good players (and I thought they’d be way worse without them). Something about that particular 8-man rotation just clicked. Would Caron jacking up shots take away from Barea/Terry’s effectiveness? They ended up not needing Caron defensively. Food for thought.

I doubt this will be legally possible given that the salary cap restrictions will be getting tighter, not looser, with the new CBA
PonceDeLeon wrote:
Pretty sure I called Mavs in 6. Can’t find what page of the original thread it was on.

Congrats to Mavs fans. Glad Dirk got a ring. He is for sure in the top 20 all time.
I called the Mavs in 6 too lol. I think there was a few of us that did. I think me, you , gregron, and WhiteFlash called it.

Not only will it be legally impossible, but do you realize the amount of hate that team would receive? It would be 10x as bad as anything the Heat got this year.

Can’t beat Dirk + solid role players with 3 superstars? SIGN ANOTHER! Here’s a thought. Instead of trying to sign more superstars, get a REAL TEAM.

Nah I only picked the Mavs over the Lakers and Thunder. I think Flash picked Mavs in the Finals in 6. I didn’t even bother making a prediction for the Finals because I would’ve been happy either way, even if 'Bron and the Heat won.
Oh right never mind.

I think Flash called Mavs early but then Butler got injured and they looked weaker after that [Flash correct me if I’m wrong].

Someone called Mavs over Heat, though. Maybe it was Australian Mavericks fan Teledin. Definitely someone from down under.
Y’all are giving me a lot of credit. Early in the year I thought the Mavs had the best chance of upsetting the Lakers, but after Butler’s injury I thought their shot was blown. But then the Lakers started to look off and I didn’t think they could win it this year, but I definitely didn’t think they were gonna get ass raped by the Mavs in 4. After the Mavs beat the Lakers I thought they’d make the Finals, and when I saw the matchup I called Mavs in 6. Like John said, there were a few of us who did. Glad we were right.

ESPN’s Truth & Rumors is suggesting that in order to receive Dwight, the Heat would be trading Lebron. The ESPN “Trade Machine” also shows that the salaries would actually match up, to make that a legal trade 1:1. While the Magic are saying that they’re not looking to trade Dwight Howard, they did say that they would have to listen to a proposal if the Heat offered up Lebron.

Frankly, I don’t care to hear a damn thing about the Heat right now, but since the idea is out there, I gave it a bit of thought. I honestly think the Heat would be much better off with Dwight replacing James. I’m not sure if Lebron possesses a No-Trade Clause, and he sure as hell wouldn’t be happy with leaving Miami to go to Orlando. But, from Miami’s point of view, this would be a great deal. Let Wade get back to being the only guy handling the ball, take pressure off of Bosh (who can’t handle being the only low-post option), and bring in the unstoppable defensive force that is Dwight Howard.

All of that aside…fuck the Heat. Congrats to the Mavericks. I’ve loved this team for years, and it’s amazing to see them finally win a title. I’ve got way too much emotion tied up in these guys, and this team…It feels like my brothers won a Championship.

Some things I noticed:

-this has pretty much been a perfect NBA season right down to the end. I don’t need to get into the stuff before the Finals and even the early playoffs, but shit–did we just see the Heat, who may be destined for multiple rings and the bad guys of the NBA lose to a group of old fuckers who we thought would retire without any rings? And led by the ice cold…Dirk? I haven’t watched the NBA for as long as the older guys here but has anyone experienced a season this good?

All I can say for certainty is that this is by far the most I’ve gotten into a playoffs - I have never planned my daily schedule around watching this many non-Bulls games in one postseason. Maybe a couple series will fascinate me most years; I wanna say like 8 playoff series were must-watch TV for me this year.
Off the top of my head this has been the best overall Playoffs I’ve ever seen. Every single series was exciting, there were several major upsets and the intensity level of each series was off the charts. We also had the emergence of some lesser known players, and other major “stars” were exposed as frauds. Again, awesome playoffs.

Have read a couple of articles since yesterday that suggest that the Heat might ship James for Howard. Aside from what that would do for the Heat, how bad would that fuck with James’ head? The guy has been the “it” guy on the court since he could probably pick up a ball, has been handed everything his entire life, gets to the Finals and basiclly gets shut out and then gets shipped out? Think that would kill what’s left of his confidence. With the way these Finals played out, I honestly think he might not ever fully recover from it.

Also, I can not WAIT to see what Cuban offers Chandler. We are talking about an owner who has talked himself into spending well over $100M on Brendan Haywood and Erick Dampier, not to mention outlandish contracts for DeSagana Diop and a couple other mediocre big men. Cuban is more desperate for a center than I am for a girl at last call.

I’m still so happy right now. : D: D:D: D

the only reason the mavs won is because the spurs werent there to whoop their ass

THANKS for those figures, scj…

A reporter brought up the “payroll” issue to D-Wade last night…and he reminded the reporters in the room that the MAVS payroll was close, if not equal, to theirs.

Boy…LeBron for “SuperMan” …I agree with whomever said that would REALLY mess with LeBron’s head…
