NBA 2011-2012 Season Thread 2

Jeremy Lin out for the year…rumor has it

Where’d you read that? Stuff I’ve read says he’s day-to-day.

from Woodson

Btw I’m going to my first NBA in about ~6 years to watch the Raps and Wiz.

The last game I went to was against the Orlando Magic and Steve Francis was on the team. I think it was Dwight’s rookie year.

I’ll probably snap a couple of picks of my viewing angle.

Shit… Man that sucks big time for the Knicks and NYC. Basketball is more fun when the Knicks are playing well.

In unrelated news sucks how my boy Jarrett Jack couldn’t close out the Laker game. Hornets went COLD the last three minutes.

More specifically lin is out 6 weeks due to a torn meniscus

Oh man Louisville, you can’t shoot 32% and expect to compete…

I have to say, Westbook should be in the running for the best PG in basketball this year.
Raj who’s your dark horse in the West?
Can Dallas be considered a dark horse? They’re 6th so they can be right?

If so I would have to go with them. I’m hoping Odom can step up his game come playoff time.
Dallas lacks road consistency. Which means I’m calling a first round exit this year if they can’t make a move for the top 4 in the regular season. I’m kind of hoping for a DAL v LAC 1st round with Dallas with the home court. I think they need a hard fought series that can go to 7 games just to get that bloodlust for a back to back.

Keep an eye on Phoenix. 13 - 7 in the last 20 games and most of those losses came to the likes of ORL, MIA, SAS, OKC. A few of the losses could have gone either way. They’ll sneak into the playoffs I think. Their run home is full of winnable games and they have a good chance to leap frog the Jazz, Nuggets and the Rockets with upcoming games. They might give a few headaches to SAS in a play off series but I think OKC would steam roll them in 4 to 5 games no question.

My view from the game tonight.

One of the few upsides of following a bad team… good seats for relatively cheap.

It’s depressing seeing those views. Good team or bad team. Not sure if I have mentioned it before but our national league in Australia is gay with a capital XXX. Arena’s that seat a maximum of 10,000 (lucky to get half that in there). Atmosphere is crap and the game is basically up tempo with no defense. You almost never see a dunk, and a good facial dunk is a once a season deal. Doesn’t surprise me because really you don’t see many players actually in elite shape.

We get U.S. college players that could never quite make the NBA turn into superstars in this country … then they piss off to China or Europe to make some coin.

You should consider taking a vacation here. You’re an accountant too right? Heck, your aussie designations would be recognized, you could even work here if you wanted.

Ha, I can vouch for that.

On the topic of tickets: Do you guys get them direct from the team website or do you find it cheaper to use stubhub or ebay?

Going to see the Nets before they leave Jersey (good riddance). Prudential Center is like 15 minutes from my house so may as well. Even though they suck, their tickets are not cheap at all.

Cheapest way I’ve found is to look on stubhub 1-2 hours before game time when people panic and drop prices last minute. Not for the faint of heart but it has never not worked for me yet.

Yup.

The tickets I bought had a face value of $55/each and I bought them for $50/each from some guy off stub hub.

My tickets were the last row of the lower bowl.

Cool. I live close enough to Newark so I’ll give it a try. Whats the cheapest you paid for decent seats?

Depends on what you define as “decent”, and depends who the opposition is. Upper Deck seats against the Heat are equal to or greater than lower bowl vs. Charlotte.

I’ve gone to Wizards games for $10-15 before, upper deck obviously but IMO there aren’t any bad seats in that arena. It’s actually pretty nice.

You can’t even get upper bowl for under $80 against the Heat.

Serious question, what’s the conversion rate like between Canada and America?

You could get upper deck here for ~$40-50 for Heat games. Raptors are slightly better than the Wizards but not demonstrably so.

1 USD = $.99 CDN

Americans often forget that Toronto is roughly the size of Chicago. Couple this with the fact Toronto is a pretty decent sports town and you can charge a decent price.

Raptors have been in the top half in attendance in the league for most of their existence.
