NBA 2011-2012 Season Thread 2

Sorry got that backwards

$1 CDN = 0.99 USD

The Canadian dollar was trading above par a couple months back though.

Depends on what you define as “decent”, and depends who the opposition is. Upper Deck seats against the Heat are equal to or greater than lower bowl vs. Charlotte.

I’ve gone to Wizards games for $10-15 before, upper deck obviously but IMO there aren’t any bad seats in that arena. It’s actually pretty nice.[/quote]

I’m going to see Nets vs. Heat and decent upper level seats are $110. There are a couple upper/upper level (not midcourt) seats for $42 but they are useless. I’d rather watch it on TV.

Decent seats would be the lowest part of the upper level and not behind the backboard. A fair price IMO is $60 for that seat considering how bad the Nets suck. Market price is $110.

I’d like to see Nets vs. Knicks too, but they’re even more money than Nets/Heat.

That’s why I settled on seeing the Wiz.

I bet a Wiz/Nets game would be dirt cheap.

*dirt cheap in comparison to a Heat/Nets

I might do something like that on stubhub like scj suggested and see how cheap I can get them for. But to be honest, I have trouble paying attention to 2 bad teams. They’d have to be really good seats or Deron would have to score 40 to keep me interested.

I keep saying this every year and it’s true but OJ Mayo is a poor man’s Kobe Bryant. I know- I know he’s undersized and inconsistent but there is potential for him to be a 18-20 ppg guy in the near future.

I’m still waiting for him and John Wall to blow up.

fixed

Sometimes when I’m not logged in I’ll cruise threads, and when not logged in I can see Get’s posts. It blows my mind that after all this time he still doesn’t know what he’s talking about and makes just comically absurd comments and comparisons.

I thought that recent Grantland piece on Memphis making a deep playoff run got it right on Mayo:

Despite showing flashes of his old self, O.J. Mayo has continued his slide into averageness. He looks a step slower than he did when he came into the league and doesn’t shoot from outside with the same confidence. The best modern Microwave guards should shoot somewhere around 45 percent. This number can be stretched a bit if a player is particularly combustible, but Mayo’s not the type of player who can come in and score 22 in a quarter. When he does swing games, as he did on Sunday against the Lakers, the Grizzlies are pretty much unbeatable. Memphis has a 22-10 record when Mayo scores in double digits. When he doesn’t, they are 5-12. I understand that these sorts of stats can be largely arbitrary and obviously shouldn’t be translated into some broad truth about the power of double-digit numbers over single-digit ones, but I do think it helps clarify Memphis’s one glaring area of need: perimeter scoring.

Yeah I like Grantland, Simmons does a wonderful job infusing sports with at least some whiff of intellectualism.

And yes - OJ Mayo has potential folks. I remember watching him play in high school and all I would think was ‘Kobe,’ ‘Kobe,’ ‘Kobe.’ If you don’t know, OJ Mayo was one of the best high school players this decade has seen. The sports media like ESPN, SI and various other publications were touting him as the next coming in the NBA. Obviously his HS success hasn’t exactly transitioned into the NBA but to say he hasn’t got any talent is ignorant. Yes, Mayo is inconsistent but he can score in spurts and it surprises opponents. In that regard, he is an assassin at times. Plus, he’s good at making tough shots - like the one and only Kobe Bryant.

Sorry I’m not a borefest. I make this thread interesting with ‘different’ insights. Way for WF spoil the proverbial party. Again.

That Knicks/Pacers game was painful to watch. They were playing some of the best D I’ve seen them play all year and then pissed it all away in the beginning of the 4th quarter. A 15 point lead to start the 4th just disappeared in minutes. They still had a chance in the final minutes but made some really bonehead decisions. I really wanted to see them push and get that 7th spot to face Miami, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

I cringe sometimes when he speaks on sports other than basketball.

stick to hoops, billy.

Ok guys, I think I might get a little flamed for my choices but whatever.

If I were putting together the most athletic lineup possible this is how it would look like. All these guys in their primes of course not currently.

This lineup has nothing to do with how their careers actually went just raw athleticism.

PG Nate Robinson
SG Vince Carter
SF Lebron James
PF Shawn Kemp
C. David Robinson

And yes on the criteria of athleticism alone I would take '99-'01 VC over vintage Kobe or Jordan in his prime.

I’ll admit my knowledge of the game doesn’t go past the 90’s though.

I’d go with a small lineup just to include Dominique Wilkins at PF instead of Kemp. Kemp had some nasty dunks when he 1st got into the league, but I don’t think I’d put him on the list.

Spud Webb should be on it as well.

Its a fun topic for sportsbar with the fellas, no doubt

At the 1, it might already be Russ Westbrook

And it’s prob Dream over DRob, in terms of athleticism. DRob only gets the edge in the RMP forum here.

And add Julius Erving and Shawn Marion to that logjam at the 3

Yep, the list just doesn’t feel right without the Human Highlight Film

(edited)

Holy shit imagine 'nique and LeBron coming at you in the open court. #scary.

At the 1 I’d have Baron Davis, Steve Francis and Rose

The 2 would most definitely be Carter, Bryant and Jordan

The 3 would be McGrady, Gerald Green and James White

4 would be Stoudamire, Kemp and probably Blake Griffin

And the 5 would be Olajuwon, Robinson and Shaq.

I put Rose ahead of Westbrook 'cause I feel he’s a little more agile and not just a straight ahead athlete, though Westbrook can get away with being just straight ahead. Part of me wanted to throw Kevin Johnson in there too. The 2-guard slot cannot be argued, but you could try with Jason Richardson and Corey Maggette. Dr. J was obviously ahead of his time but wouldn’t be anything out of the norm today. I personally feel like James athleticism is overrated as he can’t jump well off of 2 and for all his size and strength doesn’t handle mid-air contact well so I left him off. And, Olajuwon is hands down the most athletic AND skilled center of all time. Robinson was a freak athlete, but Olajuwon was on another level.

EDIT: I’M AN IDIOT. I’d have Charles Barkley in place of Griffin at the 4. What he did as an undersized 4 is fucking insane. Again, I’M AN IDIOT.

This heat-okc game is intense! Lebron thinks its the playoffs. Lol

I guess I’m just hating on Olajuwon because of how disappointed I was from his time in Toronto.
