Nautilus and Other Machines Discussion

You should get a cannon and put it on your roof like the neighbor did in Mary Poppins,

Have a friend looking for a behind the neck machine. Anybody know of one for sale?

The stand alone or the BNTA with rollers or the pulldown? The BNTA is like finding a compound bi one .

From an article I read relating to aggressive cams and the arms up compound bicep etc

  • Maximal shortening of a muscle does not lead to a high force production.

Many experts refer to this as the position of full contraction, but it actually is the position of full shortening for an exercise. For example, this occurs at the top of a curl when the biceps begin to smash against your forearm, especially if you lift your elbows. This shortens the biceps over both the elbow and the shoulder blade.

Instead of acting as the best position, and trainees will often purposely squeeze for up to a few seconds here, it actually ranks the weakest position that creates the least tension. Tension is the main stimulus for more size and strength.

A poor exercise has the weight feel heavier in this position. Many machines modify the mechanics to make this position harder, making the movement worse.

Must take a pretty big cannon to fire a 450 lb cannon ball. How many guys did it take to reload the thing?

Quite a few! A 15 inch Rodman cannon would have fired it . Some were mounted in Iron Clads like the Monitor.

Totally off topic, but cool…

Wikipedia had some interesting tidbits on the Rodman series of cannon.

The 15 inchers were widely deployed, but ā€œnever fired in angerā€ So never actually used in combat, I guess.

There was a 20 inch cannon made, that would fire a 1,000 lb projectile. But it was only test fired a total of 8 times. Internal pressures during discharge were enormous…

Just bn. The rollers

Actually most of the 15 inch cannon balls were fired from Dahlgren 15 inch cannons mounted in Ironclads . They were used in anger at fort Sumpter etc quite a bit! The Rodman cannons were basically land cannons and the Dahlgren where Navy. They did fire the Lincoln 15 inch Rodman a few times in anger at Fortress Monroe.I have a lot of blacksmiths in my past history so I figure that’s why I Gravitate towards Nautilus and cannon balls so much!
I guess one of the reasons I’m not as strong as I should be after all these years is I have many interests besides Nautilus and working out. I’m big into family, photography and video, collecting all sorts of cool stuff, fishing and kayaking, welding , hiking , old cars and many other things so it seems something is always interfering with getting consistent workouts.

I have one. It’s not for sale but I’ll trade it for a compound b1, ha ha!!

That made me actually laugh out loud! @entsminger you have a lot of cool hobbies. I hope when I reach your age I’m able to manage as many hobbies and still keep training hard like you do! Very inspirational! Cool cannonball collection too!

I think one reason I like and collect Nautilus machines is because like cannon balls , old cars , hit or miss engines , rocks and minerals and quality tools they were made to last forever!

What’s your favorite welding machine?

(for the love of all things good, please don’t say Everlast. :joy:)

I have a 200 amp mig HTP and a Miller . I also have a HTP Plazma cutter and oxygen acc. Tanks etc. I’ve got several things to weld but big 4’4 sheets of 1/4 inch steel ( and I need several) have got to expensive to fool with.

Very Nice! I’ve always like Miller and Lincoln, but the last Miller machine I used was the pipeworx with some neat features which put them solidly in front for me.

I still have my own Lincoln mig machine that I’ve considered updating but the thing just works like the day I got it. What’s not to love about that?

One of the things I like to do with my welders is make robots out of junk. At Halloween I’ve taken metal junk like bike , engine , car and other junk lying around and welded them together to look like a full size terminator robot . I often wish I owned a scrap yard so I could just run out and just grab something to weld! I go around and collect bed frames that people constantly throw out. They make great frame work for things . If 40 years ago I would have had what I have now I would have made a pullover. I actually made a lateral machine from scrap and it worked about as good as the real thing!

Oh! See, I do the opposite. I’ll take a perfectly good machine and manage to turn it into scrap.

I’ve done a few different things from custom aluminum and products for architectural glass work to heat exchange systems. Last year or so has been doing repair work on my old buddy’s tree cutting trucks and equipment.

Sculpture is pretty neat. I can’t put things together like that. A few people I’ve known can. I might start making some tomato trellises and yard stuff. Just some little ornamental things. I did free form a few things a couple of times though.

Me and my kiddo did this for the wife last year when the banana hanger in the kitchen broke. He made the bends and laid out the pieces for the base, then we assembled from there.

And I thought you said plasma was too expensive,

Hah hah! Thing is I know this Plazma cutter works. It will cut through a 1/4 inch piece of steel like a hot knife will cut through butter! I used it once to cut out cams for a machine I was trying to make.
