Yep, the Chins no Traps? thread was all I could think about while reading this.

You’re a hooker, of course you want big traps. You need the cushion when you scrum.
OP: I don’t do any direct trap work, but I do everything else - deads, rack pulls, overhead press. What I’m saying is if you develop the rest of your shoulder complex, your traps will fall in line proportionately. I suggest tons of incline presses using dumb bells, overhead presses using dumb bells and lateral raises until you cry. And while you’re at it, do an equal amount of barbell rows, pull ups and dumb bell rows.
If you have an exaggerated hamstring growth problem, let me know. I’ve got a perfect routine for you.
Just doin’ my duty, teachin’ the noobie.

X, always so quick with the call-out. I have no trouble believing that at 5’7", 145lbs, the kids got traps that could block the sun (if he were to allow them out of his size S tee, that is).

yea, OP, stop throwing cars around in the street you damn beast!
you guys are harsh…picking on a 16 year old kid like that
Baller, I’m TC. I’m the official zoo keeper around here.
Don’t be discouraged by some of these posts.
My advice to you is to not worry about your traps.
It’s highly unlikely they’ll continue to outpace the rest of your body. Almost everybody has one part of their body that was better than the rest when they began training.
As such, continue to work your shoulders as you would any other body part.
You don’t necessarily have to do shrugs–which are a low “bang for your buck” exercise anyhow–but continue to do overhead presses and any Olympic moves you care to.
Good luck.
TC

Wait, did Prof X just ask a 145lb poster to show us pics? Is it Opposite
Day and nobody told me?
To the OP, I think you can sum up all the advice, and good natured ribbing, with an easy answer to your problem.
Don’t worry about decreasing your traps, just make everything else bigger. Don’t avoid exercises, just lift heavy and even out in the long run. And at your age, and your weight, you have a good amount of long run ahead of you…

TC, deus et machina, when things get hectic. Good thing he didn’t post pictures, then we lions really would have pounced.
To the OP, Paul Chek wrote some excellent articles on traps muscles on this site. Rather than lament your traps muscles, embrace and love them. Those articles might be just the encouragement you need.
Baller, I have naturally big traps as well, just genetics I guess. I also have fairly narrow shoulders so that might be it.
Don’t worry about it, they’ll get bigger, but as you work your whole body and get bigger everywhere things will even out.
At this point in your training don’t try to focus too much on specific body parts, just look to get big and strong everywhere.
In the end it’ll all work itself out.

I have a similar problem.
My forearms and quads are wayyy to big. I can squat 200 lbs.
Does anyone know of any exercises that dont use forearms or quads. I am 5’8", 135 lbs.
Please tell me your kidding. Please! I just can’t tell over the internet.
why does everybody who posts with the word “baller” in their username end up creating a circus? Wait. Nevermind. I get it now.[/quote]
