N.E.R.D Musical Failure

I’m 20. i just dont see how you can think thats a bad song, its completely original in terms of sound. thats what i like about them, theyre always doing something new muscially.
Exactly. Line up all three NERD albums.

In Search Of…
Fly Or Die
Seeing Sounds

You will listen to 3 albums that could very easily have been made by 3 different groups. The first one was very gritty and underground sounding, the second album is pop-punk with a little bit of trip-hop and this third album in once again something different.

The entire album has yet to grow on me (sounds a lot like Pharrell’s solo disc ‘In My Mind’) but it is completely different from the other two records.

I don’t like one song, and suddenly I have a shitty taste in music?

Excellent.

She stil fails at life in my book. Is money the only measure of success?

The original post was trying to make the argument that N.E.R.D failed at music. Which, given that they are amongst the most successful acts working in the music industry, is entirely false.

You’re correct, but I was wrong.

I should’ve said they failed at this particular song, which is what I was thinking.

But PHYSIOLOGICALLY speaking anything that doesn’t tie nicely OUR pulses will ‘feel’ a little odd. And 9/16th was chosen because even though it’s a bunch of 3rds, that feels like a fast waltz and that’s hilarious to think it would even exist in modern hip hop or dance music.
Yeah, and 9/16 wouldn’t feel all that odd, is my point. It LOOKS odd, but actually play it, nothing about it feels odd.

Perhaps part of the irony is that hip hop, even stuff that is on the radio, is often some of the more interesting music rhythmically speaking. Where it is not uncommon for beats to literally fall off of the pulse, be divisible by 5, or otherwise be characterised by heavy syncopation and accented delivery.

What makes it ‘feel’ right is that the one is always(well, almost always) clearly defined, and the bass is generally rooted. But beyond that, other elements in any given hip hop/pop track are just as likely to be pretty strange. Especially in recent years.

You actually wrote, “you probaly dont like it because its made for younger people by younger people”. this is false. Most of these guys who write this music are not that young and are in their 30’s. Pharrell is 35 years old. Why back-peddle now?

As far as you calling me sheltered, I don’t think that term applies to military personnel unless they never left the country. You don’t have more life experience than me judging by your “informative” posts.

i dont have more xbox live experience either.

Aaaaaaaahahahhaha.

Officially on my list of kids who have no idea of what the fuck they’re talking about.

Whoah, what a whopper of a comeback. I guess it would help if I had an X-Box at all, huh?

You’re a kid who talks too much without having shit to say. Make a real come back and try this again when you actually accomplish something in life besides cocaine references and the belief that everyone a little older than you is somehow less informed about life than you are.

How is college coming along?

High school?
youre a middle aged guy who spends all his free time playing video games and arguin on the internet. 90% of your posts are made up of you trying to point out why someone is wrong about something and then arguing to death about it. i wonder if theres a relation between that…hmmm

31 is middle aged? If that’s the case, you listen to music from middle aged people and then act like your age makes you superior?

I actually spend most of my time at work surfing the internet, not my “free time” because if I didn’t focus on other things, I would get bored easily, just like when I was in school.

Past that, in spite of logging on here, I do my job extremely well and enjoy what I do.

In fact, you have nothing over me. Again, hit me back when you have accomplished half of what most of the people have who you always speak out against. That includes some of the women as well.

I am 10 or 11 years older than you yet that equals “middle aged”? You are a brat and it shows in nearly everything you type.

That computer you are typing on…you didn’t buy that yourself, did you?

Hey RSG,

I have to agree with you that the song is annoying as hell, and when the album as a whole is compared to their other releases, this is by far the ‘worst’ one. Have you ever listened to In Search Of? IMO that is their best album, but much of their best production work was on Kelis’ earlier albums.

regardless of what accomplishments youve achieved you still come off as a prick. it seems to me you just swim around here looking to pick fights with people online. i didnt come in here to start any fights, i specifically said that in my frist post in here. when i said the guy was probaly old, i didnt mean it as an insult i just figured it was a probable cause to why he didnt like it. anyway, you guys dont like the music thats fine and dandy. i still think its a good song.

You may not have meant it as an insult, but considering SEVERAL people all responded the same way, it is pretty damn clear that it was SEEN as an insult that you are only now trying to claim isn’t one because of the responses you are getting.

You have some issue with “age” as if anyone older than you is clueless about the very culture you seem to surround yourself with. the truth is, the very people you emulate in those songs are mostly OLDER than most of the posters in this thread, including me. That makes your response a joke and you can’t honestly be serious claiming you thought it would not be taken as an insult.

If I’m middle aged, then Pharrell is as well since he’s older than me. Why are you listening to music from middle aged people yet acting like people younger than them can’t understand it?

I haven’t listen to any of their albums all the way through, I’ll have to give it a shot sometime. I tend to like the music Pharell does with other artists more than his own stuff.

It happens to some artists, and they either get back on track, or they don’t.

Linkin Park for example - their first 2 albums were good IMO but their last effort left me disappointed. I liked 1 maybe 2 of the songs on there, mainly because they almost forced the listener to sit and listen to them complain about this and that, instead of being able to jump around to it.

Chris Rock says you’ll die at 54. You’re well past middle age.
