My Trip To See Bushido Bad Boy!

Do more reps. How many plates are we talking about?
I’ve been trying to stick to traditional Hypertrophy rep range, so doing no more then 12, but adding an extra 5kg is making it a lot more difficult. Right now I’m doing it with 10 Kg on the back of the head.

That’s good to know, I’ll just keep at it moving to higher rep ranges.

I’m glad you mentioned the Face pulls because I’ve added those into my back training days already to work the rhomboids and middle traps.

As for the Prone Y’s, I’ve never done them before and I know that some people advocate different ways of doing them. The common factor seems to be to do them with a very light weight, like 1kg DBs. But some people do them with the scapula retracted at all times, and others do not. Which would you recommend?
Are you holding for time? The fascia around the triceps surae is big and thick, so takes time to deform. Or it could be a limitation caused by the ankle joint itself, but I doubt it or you would be describing feelings of joint pain/discomfort I suspect.

BBB
I’m trying to hold the soleus stretches for 15-20 secs at a time. Is that not long enough? I’ve had no joint or ankle pain when doing these, or otherwise.

Hope your keeping well.

Hey BBB, i was wondering if you get time if you could to show some input in my thread:

My knees are pulling in as i come out of the pocket on deep squats, even when i’ve lowered the weight to one plate per side.
bushidobadboy wrote:
10K is about the upper limit I suspect. Let me know when you breach that and we’ll put something together.
Cool, I’ll let you know when I’m about to push past his.

OK, so I’ll start out super light and take it from there. I guess I’m working in Hypertrophy range here?

60 seconds mate  90, if you can handle the ischemic pain

Keeping well sir, thanks. Hope you are too.

BBB
Ah, so that’s where I’m falling short, I’ll bump it up to 60 and see how it goes, and if I can handle it, I’ll go the full whack!

Did I read right a little while ago that your now working with the Cardiff Blues? Good work man, that’s gotta be quiet rewarding!

Correction, I’m working with one of the Cardiff Blues. He’s a very nice guy and doesn’t mind a bit of ART-induced pain, which is good. He has a certain way with words though, lol. I did some ART on his glute medius as they were excessively tight. He got up after treatment and said “Oooh yeah! My arse is all soft and floppy now. That’s great, it never stops being tight and sore normally.” Which was a little bit odd, I thought, but in a nice way.

BBB
Ah OK! None the less, it’s impressive to have a pro athlete on your client list. And once word gets round I’m sure you’ll have the blues line-up in your torture chamber!

You’ll be the guy that, “Sticks an elbow in your arse and makes it go floppy!”.

Hmm, this is an interesting thread, I’m not too far from you here in Wales bad boy. Looking through a thread on here about disc herniations that you posted in. I have a prolapse, pretty sure its between L4/L5. Just been for a second scan. None too keen on getting an op, last physio was a stop training type chap.

Perhaps have a little drivey up to you if thats ok bushy?

Awesome!

BBB is one of the coolest guys on this board - always helpful.

YUP!

Greetings BBB. I sent you a PM a while back on your BBB2 account, and I hope not to be a bother, but yours is one of the few opinions I highly value on this board and I am incredibly hopeful you may be willing to lend me a hand.

I have an awful anterior pelvic tilt from tight hip flexors, flat feet, and a host of other body alignment issues and strength imbalances. I have decided to make a concentrated effort to correct them.

After reading London Runner’s writeup of the assessment you performed on him, I want to ask if you are still doing this type of assessment, or if you’ve moved on to other things? I have excellent insurance and am willing to pay for your services out of pocket if the insurance won’t cover your expenses.

I am coming across the pond Saturday for 2 weeks for business at the Ministry of Defence at Abbeywood. My hotel in Bristol is only about an hour from Cardiff and I’ve always wanted to visit Wales.

If you would like to set something up with me, I would be most grateful. Please let me know if you are available and willing to help out a fellow T-Nation brother.

I’m sure Bushy will get back to you in this thread soon. But I do know that he’s in the process of moving to Nottingham where he’s opening a new facility. Not to sure when the actual move is scheduled for, but if he doesn’t reply, I’ll shoot him an e-mail for you.

VTBalla34,

As for the re-hab I’m pretty much fixed, but only BBB can say that for sure. The only thing I’m still working on is scapula retraction, which I do 3-4 times a week. There’s other things I’ve just incorporated into my workouts and do every week, like abductor/adductor work. I also do more weighted DC style stretching which has helped a lot.

Sorry I can’t help you out further,

LR

BBB,

I would like to visit for an evaluation as well. Could that same member pass along your email to me as well?

Thanks,

-Ether

Does anyone know if the omni massager would be any good for sorting out my triceps tendonitis, or is it too broad a surface?
I would also be interested in an evaluation if I can afford it! I live in Cardiff so would not be a problem to get up to Ponty.
Thanks

OP, I don’t mean to hijack your thread, I did consider starting my own but thought it wasn’t really necessary, so instead I hoped I could simply ‘compliment’ your one by providing our good friend BBB with an additional review/ testimonial…

I visited BBB sometime in the summer (BBB, can you remember what month, August probably?) And have been meaning to do this ever since.

I have a long history of back problems which started when I was about 21 (I’m 31 now) they haven’t been too bad recently but were compounded when I was in a very serious car accident in 2005. The latest problem for me has been pain around my hips which I believe were caused by my back injuries. I also drive for several hours a day which doesn’t help. BBB agreed to see me and was confident ART would help me.

Up until now I had been treated by a very experienced Chiropractor and occasionally by a physiotherapist (I’m not a huge fan of Physiotherapy personally and have seen all kinds of ‘specialists’ over the year’s) I have a reverse hyper which is a big help to me as one of my back problems was related to the sacrum.

Nowadays my back problems usually make themselves known to me in the form of ‘tightness’ and mild pain now as opposed to the terrible acute pains I used to suffer from. I have heard a lot of good things about ART and was keen to be treated by someone who was not biased against weight training.

So, there has to be a first time for everything, and this was the first time I met up with a man whom I had met over the internet…

I had been in contact with BBB for a while (we all know how generous he is with advice) and I had spoken to him on the phone before so it wasn’t much of a big deal for us, I arrived and he told me to leave the money next to the bed… whoops, wrong story, sorry. Just kidding

Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival to his home to be treated to some of his home cooking which was (not that I was surprised) very, very nice: organic chicken breast, mashed sweet potato and vegetables if I remember correctly, plus a choice from a selection of iced lolly’s after.

We sat down and ate, had a chat, and he patiently answered a ton of questions for me, I doubt i presented myself in the best light as I’d drunk a couple of those large, high caffeine drinks to get me through the drive (which is like throwing gasoline on a fire for someone like me who has ADHD) but he, ever the professional kept calm and maintained composure.

I got my blood pressure measured, which he assured me was in safe range, disclosed a trick about calf training to me, which added half an inch onto my calves quite quickly then we moved on to the treatment itself.

He examined me and performed some quite painful, but very effective ART on my hips. I have had TONS of Chiropractic adjustments and 99% of the time the person who’s job it is to do them is not really strong enough (and I’m not particularly big or strong, especially by the standards here) to do them effectively, so it was great to have someone very strong working on me. I don’t feel that the ART would have been anywhere near as effective if it had been performed by a woman-sorry ladies-or normal untrained man.

The next revelation, which had been overlooked by my physiotherapist and Chiropractor was that I had a postural problem caused from driving (shoulder tendonitis I think) which BBB astutely noticed and prescribed me some exercises which I need to do on an ongoing basis which have fixed the problem.I have no doubt that my shoulder problem would have stayed unnoticed and untreated had he not pointed it out and prescribed suitable rehab exercises.

All in all I was very impressed with the treatment I received on all levels, we all know BBB is very knowledgeable and generous with advice, but on top of this he’s an all round great guy, which is a breath of fresh air considering there are so many assholes about nowadays.

In a different thread BBB invited me to come and see him, however as your PM’s aren’t working sir, I’m afraid I have no way of exchanging details!

It’s great to see some write ups on this stuff, if I’m lucky and rich enough, maybe I could add to this thread sometime soon.

He actually had me leave the money on the bathroom sink in an envelope marked “gift”…weird

And i would like to know what you did to get the home cooked meal!

All kidding aside, I too went to see BBB back in July when I was in Bristol for work. I have a frightening anterior pelvic tilt with weak glutes/hammies, and tight hip flexors. Also had some shoulder issues.

BBB and I chatted about my condition, and he was immediately able to deduce my weaknesses in my abs, adductors, and abductors, and my tightness in my IT Band, psoas, and piriformis. He performed excruciatingly painful, yet effective, ART on my hip flexors and recommended some exercises I could do to strengthen my weak muscles, as well as stretches to chill out the tight hip flexors.

After following his advice for a couple months, nearly all of my problems went away–back issues were gone and I was much more mobile. Squat went up tremendously and my legs started to grow again.

His pricing was very reasonable, even after I got reamed by the USD/GBP exchange rate.

I would recommend him to anyone with biomechanical issues, without question.
