Come on chaps, you’re slowing down… Can’t let this thread die before it hits the 32 page mark; we must obey Splits vs. TBT thread -tradition!
Another one of these fucking threads! No wonder I hardly ever visit the bodybuilding forum anymore. Don’t you guys get it yet: the world’s big enough to accomodate BOTH methods–there’s more than one way to skin a cat. Yes, TBT can be useful, during periods, even in bodybuilding training.
Fuck sake!!

@ vcjha - your views are still very off. First off you are acting like a “beginner” program is inferior to a “advanced” program. If this were the case, there wouldn’t be beginner programs. Everyone would just skip to the advanced stuff. But that in itself is the problem many people encounter. They think a beginner program will give ok results, but the big guys use “advanced” programs so if they train like the big guys, they’ll be big.
Also, you say “we need to figure out what works once and for all” as if there is a ton of stuff out there that doens’t work. THE BASICS WORK AND THERE IS SOMEWHAT SOME AGREEMENT ON THIS STUFF.
Probably the stuff you have tried works. It just didn’t work for you. Which means YOU did something wrong. Also, to expect a bunch of people on a forum to “figure this stuff out” when its been researched for decades and there is still as much “confusion” as you say is a bit hilarious. What are we gonna figure out here?
There is a reason people recommend the basics. THEY WORK. Maybe not for everyone, but they’ll produce results much more consistantly than complicated things that dont always have that big of an effect. And im not just talking basic program and advanced programs, im talking the basics foundational things that matter, like strength and calories, and progression. I think you clearly didn’t read my previous posts, or you simply didn’t understand them. THERE ARE NO MAGIC BULLETS.
It takes time and dedication to achieve anything. Otherwise everyone would be walking around with the “perfect body” Dont think about getting the body you want so you can stop and enjoy it. Enjoy the process. Enjoy lifting weights, and progressing, and learning from the experience. Because if you are only doing it for the end result, you are going to fail for sure.
As I stated, Starting strength is a good basic program that is very reliable for getting results. Also, WS4SB is a good program but a little more complicated, and 5x5 is good. Im sure some of the other guys could suggest a good basic split that is reliable as well. PICK ONE and stick with it for 5-10 years and work hard, and go from there.
Also, having a nice body in your 40-50’s will be much nicer than having a nice body in your 20’s. And stop thinking that basic means its not as good.
honestly, i would like to have some semblance of harmony with everyone on here. i know everyone is fully invested and it makes things hard. i would like to come to some agreement as far as muscle building, absent all the bullshit. i still think CT summarized things pretty well.

this thread is no longer a TBT v Splits debate. it’s now a speculation thread to see who can have the last word.

edit: and maybe time for a time for a haircut.[/quote] ← Cut my hair a year ago and still feel bad about it… For half a year afterwards I kept on unconsciously brushing non-existent strands out of my face; to the amusement of my girlfriend who still teases me with “My hair is longer than yours now!”.
So moral of the story: Don’t do it. You went through years of looking like a Beatle-impersonator to get it to the length it is now, that’s something most can only endure once in a lifetime… Once you cut it, there’s no going back ![]()
i don’t just use kettlebells you know, there just convienient in the spring/summer as i spend half the week living at the beach in a van and it is easy to bring them with me. winter is strictly conventional gym time. and yes last year was worth 20 lbs, hopefully similar for this one.
only joking about the haircut, that’s never gonna happen.

Ahh, I thought you looked familiar.

and hey, TD it was a river
Instead of doing a full body It could be a nice Idea to split a upper body and a lower body session in twice, making a part in the morning and a part in the evening, so that each session does not last more than half an hour .
for example if you usually do in your upper days something like this:
A1 Incline Bench
A2 Inverted Row
B1 MG decline bench
B2 Pull ups
C L-Flyes
you can simply split it doing
A1/A2 in the morning
and
B1/B2/C in the evening , after resting at least 4 hours

i knew something good would come out of this thread, that clip was fucking hilarious!
gonna have some fun with that.
I truly am sorry that the way i want to say things is horribly misinterpreted. I never said a beginner program is inferior to advanced programs. quitely frankly, in some cases, they can be better. However, I have done basics every workout and hardly any isolation except for some lat pulldowns, skull crushers, and bicep curls(i hate training biceps)
The only problem is I work out intensely as I think everyone here does too, the only problem is i might be working out too intensely as I’m pooped out by the fifth or sixth exercise and most of the exercises only contain two sets. I mean, I must be doing something wrong, but I honestly don’t know how to fix it.
At the same time, if I worked out at the same intensity for starting strength, I probably would be DONE by the third exercise, and could do no more. Any help for this problem?
Some content in the “Prof X or others help” thread could help you.
You could start with page 5, as prior to that there had been a lot which would not be helpful for you. Page 5 has I think just one post that may help but only in general thought; from page 6 on things get more specific.
And if you wanted to save time, you could read just Cephalic_Carnage’s posts and mine. (Not that there weren’t likely also other worthwhile ones, but these should do it for you.)

Agreed. I am in that thread aswell. However, to avoid confusion I bowed out, and let CC and BR take over the thread. The OP in ‘Prof X or other help’, seems to like the direction they are taking him. You might too. BR is a ‘good guy’, knows his shit, though he is very uh, hyper-logical. Just remember, that CONSISTENCY is paramount. Pick a system pick some Movements and stick with it. This hopping around shit will halt progress.

Post up a typical weeks training or a link to your log.
