My Sister Is an Idiot

Well not really, but kind of. About almost a month she has became a “Raw Foodist” and according to her it has been great except that her skin has become very dry. So my question is what could be causing this?

She is convinced and has been told by her other freak friends that it is part of the detox and that her body is getting rid of all the toxins, her skin beong the largest organ is also detoxing…?..I know. Is her body really detoxing or is is some sort of defiency like fats?

That would be my guess.

Lol don’t people try to prevent very dry skin? Probably from lack of sugars and fats I’d imagine, that’s usually what makes my skin oily.

I can’t imagine it is “detoxing”, as I said before I imagine it is due to a change in macronutrients. How shitty did she eat previously to this “Raw Foodist” lifestyle.

Exactly but, according to them it happens to almost all the people who make the switch. After the dryness peels/stops your skin will be smoother and softer.

She never ate bad the occasional fast-food but usually kept it clean.

I’m not sure how it becoming very dry helps in the way of making skin smoother and softer but if it does then it’s probably not a bad thing whatever causes it.

Normally healthy skin=healthy person

Post pics of her skin.

she skin is a major elimination organ but people with horrible diets but great looking skin can get away with this problem by having great genetics for their liver

as for oil it is an antiquated notion that fat intake = oil production

oil production is promoted by inflammation near the sebaceous glands which is caused by…simple sugars (or refined grains) that are highly inflammatory (Insulin spiking)

i switched from a net strongly inflammatory diet (lots of grains, minimal veggies, a fair amount of simple sugars each day) to a net anti-inflammatory diet (minimal grains, lots of veggies, lots of anti-inflammatory foods like onions, almonds and olive oil) and my oil production has pretty much disappeared

My sis did exactly the same thing. Raw food this, raw food that, isn’t it great, you should do it, blah blah blah…

Even cavemen were smart enough to figure out how to get a BBQ started and cook some dead animals on it, why change now.

When a diet is very low in fat, the skin loses its suppleness. It would not surprise me that this could be the case with her. Healthy fats have not only calories but nutrients for cell integrity. This is why fish oil is so vital, it literally improves the movement of nutrients within the cell walls.

Please ask her to identify which toxins are being released from the body.

This thread is worthless without pics.

At face value, I don’t see what the idiocy of eating raw foods is. I try to only buy raw nuts and I eat tons of raw fruits, vegs-- not to say I won’t/don’t sautee, steam, bake, or broil them for the sake of variety. I’ve gotten into raw milk from a local farm lately.

Even if fats were the problem, there are tons of oils out there that fall under ‘raw’–eg EVOO, Expeller pressed safflower, sunflower, pumpkinseed oil, etc.

I only cook steaks and fish enough to burn off whatever is on the outside of them.

Is she a ‘raw vegan’? Unless she’s wolfing down raw eggs, sushi, and rare beef, the only downside I could see would be a protein deficiency.

Its not necessarily that eating raw foods is the idiocy, its usually the reasons for why they do it. Look up some of the logic behind it if you are curious.

Raw foods have their place in a diet, but so do cooked foods.

I will try to to get some pics but, there is nothing special. Her skin looks like that of someone living in a cold climate just regular dry, flaky skin.

My reason for calling it idiocy is that it is causing this dry skin and yet she continues, if the skin is in fact detoxing I guess that is good news but, is that possible? Some of her friends have had body aches, nausea and yet they claim it is the body detoxing.

I myself in a way follow a raw food diet I only cook my meat sources(meat, turkey, and fish) rare and all of my fruits and veggies are eaten raw and I eat no grains so I guess in a way I am on a paleo diet in which I do not cook my veggies but, this is because I do not like that taste of soggy veggies.

I would say THAT would be ideal. Stone-age man was smart enough to cook basic food over a fire. I think our digestive process is still back there. Your sister, however, is going too far back.

Cooked meat (a Foreman grill comes in handy here)
Raw Vegetables
Some cooked Vegetables
Raw Fruit
Water

If she really wanted to “detox” tell her to live off that.

We need pictures to make a real conclusion.

And we may also rate it.

I find it funny that people who release toxins tend to be hippie stoners or goth stoner cutters

Is she all out vegan raw foodist? I follow the raw food lifestyle but dont limit myself to being a vegan freak. Raw dairy makes me a happy panda.

Don’t associate stoners with hippies.

Is detox ever really necessary?
