My Road to Elite

What a fantastic fucking day! Hit PR’s on all lifts and hit every lift. Got to lift against reigning IPF World champion Dan Williams who dropped down to 181, thanks Dan! For the record Dan Williams and his brother beat me giving me a bronze medal for the Men’s Open 181 and under.[/quote]

Dude, for your first year out of the chute this is an incredible performance. You came in with disciplined training and were prepared. Your training log should be a sticky for the wannabees.

Congratulations! This has been a great month…

YOU ROCK!

Some really nice compliments, thanks so much Bagger! Yeah it has been one hell of a month indeed!

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for helping me with some of the mental/emotional problems I was having when I was overtraining just a couple months into lifting and I didn’t know what the hell was going on.

You gave me some great advice and more than anything were willing to listen to my complaints and tell me I wasn’t crazy as I felt. Not to get all PMS on you but it really meant a lot and made a big difference in my training. Thanks for your continuing interest and support, you really are a great guy.

9/9 pretty much says it all - you had a hell of a day. Congratulations!! Next time we shouldn’t be seeing any red lights, though

Haha, thanks novaeer! Maybe a couple more runs with Sheiko will improve my technique to the point I can see 27 white lights in a meet . . . we’ll see!

Hey congrats on the prs and a very good meet. 9 for 9 while hitting prs is tough.

WOW!

That was a hell of a performance, I can’t wait to see the video.

Great job mrodock.

So what’s next?

Thanks a lot RL! The video is uploading now and shouldn’t be too much longer (not sure when I will be able to go to sleep tonight, haha).

What’s next:

USAPL Wisconsin State meet around January 30. I will be moving up to the 198’s, trying to put on some upper body mass for bench and deadlift. I want to total over 1400 by then and I have about 31 weeks to get there. If I can total 1475 I would qualify for nationals. That might be a long shot but we’ll see as we get closer to that point. The first 16 week cycle I intend to focus on raw strength with little equipment work. On the next cycle (~12 weeks) I will work quite a bit in the equipment and really hone my technique. I will be purchasing a deadlift suit and a bench shirt that isn’t ridiculously loose. I am so excited to start my training for the next meet and get a little bit closer to my ultimate goals.

For my meet description see the previous page.

Certainly if you see something in my technique that needs improvement don’t hesitate to shout it out!

Great lifting. Keep your nose to the grindstone and the rest of your year will be awesome. One tip (it is something I am guilty of as well): work on your walk-outs to minimize your steps and fidgeting before you squat. It will help you conserve energy in the long run.

Way to represent the Nation!

Congratulations on the 9/9!

Great lifting/training! great video too.

All the best for your next meet!

Great work man! It is fantastic to see you do so well, you’ve busted your ass very consistantly and it shows. I’m very impressed with how you drive your hips down at the start of your deads. Most people tend to do the opposite during a PR.

Keep it up man, you are well on your way and it is fun to watch the show!

I assure you I won’t start slacking now. Through the good times or the bad consistently hard training is the constant.

Yeah the walkouts were fucking ugly, couldn’t agree more. Not that it made a huge difference but I really think the rack was too high . . . and how I got that wrong I don’t have an idea in the world. I’ll get a lot more walkout practice in my 12 week before the state meet than I did during this most recent cycle (only squatting in equipment 3 times).

Thanks bearshark! I’m so excited for all the work ahead of me.

Free2Be thanks a lot man!

As far as the driving the hips down is concerned . . . it surprised the hell out of me to see it look like it does on video. When I did my last deadlift session of this cycle (6 days ago now) I trained at the school for the first time in about 5 months. Anyhow there is a mirror in front of where I was deadlifting and I just made a mental note that my hips were rising too fast and that was my main focus for the meet, drive the hips down, break the bar off the floor with the upper back.

Great work mrodock! 9 for 9, are you serious!?!

You definitely did us proud!

Thanks Modi! Was there a particular lift you would have recommended missing? ;o)

I’m late to the party.

Congrats on a great meet!

That’s some damn fine lifting man, cant wait to see what you can do with just a few more years training.

Congrats to you on making it through the base mesocycle. I have a feeling Saturday will be a very big day for you, all the best.
