My Road To BEASTNESS w/ Vids

Nice bench bruh. I screamed similar to your liftoff dude. Arms looking thicker, gaining some weight?

Gonna pass me up here soon!

Thanks, everyone!

Thank you Mr. SessiPants. I may have gained a little bit of weight recently but I don’t think so. I’ve been hovering around 205 in the morning foreva.

I maxed deadlift yesterday and pulled 555. It was actually kind of easy lol. I think if I wanted to really get psyched up and go for a true 1RM I could have pulled 6 plates. Shmaybe?

Also hit a 205 strict press this morning. Man, it was the definition of a friggin’ grinder.

That is so much awesome for a 1 minute video.

Very impressive PRs… you for sure have at least a little more in you and 555 is already pretty awesome.

ez 555 and 205 ohp…demmit I’ve been slacking.

Leave some progress for the rest of us… Selfish much?

But forreal, the Strict press was probably the first remotely non-smooth rep I’ve seen of your in the last 6 months, so it’s nice to see you can still push out PR’s even if the weight isn’t going up ridiculously fast. lol

Just a random ass question, where do you grip the bar, in relation to the outer rings, when benching? You’re kind of got long arms like I do, and I place my middle finger on the rings. Just curious as to how wide your grip is

@jake: Thanks!

@AquaSessi: You have not been slacking in the good looks department, that’s for sure.

@Spidey: I usually go with my pointer finger on the rings. But every now and then I will go a bit more narrow, if I feel like it. No particular reason lol.

Started an altered version of HP Mass CT suggested for me. I’m really digging it, more than the original. I dropped tophalf OH press from pins and stuck with regular OH, because I’ve been making good progress on it lately and would like to keep it up.

Yesterday Upper Body 1

A) Top-Half OH Press from Pins
(can’t remember exact weights)
145 x 3, 150 x 3, 155 x 3, 160 x 3
165 x 2, 170 x 2, 175 x 2
185 x 1

B) Bench
235 x 3, 255 x 3 x 3
265 x 2, 275 x 2, 285 x 2
305 x 1 (paused)

C) Top-Half Bench from Pins
245 x 3, 255 x 3, 265 x 3, 275 x 3
285 x 2, 295 x 2
315 x 1

D) Deadlift
365 x 3, 380 x 3, 395 x 3, 405 x 3
425 x 2, 440 x 2, 455 x 2
475 x 1

Today Upper Body 2

A) OH Press
135 x 3, 150 x 3
160 x 2, 165 x 2
175 x 1 x 4

B) Bench
245 x 3, 255 x 3
265 x 2, 275 x 2
285 x 1, 295 x 1, 305 x 1 x 2

C) Top-Half Bench from Pins
255 x 3, 275 x 3
285 x 2, 295 x 2
315 x 1 x 4

D) Deadlift
365 x 3, 385 x 3
405 x 2, 435 x 2
455 x 1, 475 x 1, 495 x 1 x 2

Notes: deadlifts felt great today until I got up to 455. 405 felt like a breeze, so I thought that was weird.

Hi Ashylarry - great training, I’ll definitely be following.

I saw your question (while lurking the Livespill) regarding your HP Mass template, hope you don’t mind if I run it as well; I have previously completed some HP Mass cycles and was really interested in trying out the progression plan that CT posted. (I’m only doing the 4 day though - 2 x upper/lower, with a structural and conditioning/sled day when I can fit it in)

So I’ll be watching closely to see what you do etc.

@fractalpath: Thanks for popping in!

Lower Body 1

A) Power Clean
215 x 1 10 lb PR ugly as heck but

B) Squat
265 x 3, 275 x 3, 285 x 3, 295 x 3
315 x 2, 325 x 3, 335 x 2
345 x 1

C) Deadlift
365 x 3, 385 x 3, 405 x 3, 415 x 3
435 x 2, 455 x 2, 470 x 2 5 lb PR lol
495 x 1

D) Bench (had about 10 minutes to do this including warm-up sets so it was rushed)
235 x 3, 245 x 3, 255 x 3 x 2
265 x 2, 275 x 2, 285 x 2
305 x 1 (paused)

NOTES: Pretty good session considering I felt really sluggish going in. My squat has been a bit off lately.

You’re putting some solid work in

After starting (double) smolov I realise the mental toughness you need to put in work in multiple “big 3” lifts in one session, good stuff as usual mayn

On the power cleans, get the bar closer to your body as the bar travels upwards, and really drive the hips through to fix that rack position! Great gains being made as usual other wise!

Thanks, guys!

@phlegms: Honostly, I appreciate the advice, but I don’t care too much about my Oly lifts lol. I just use them as an activation for time to time.

Test Day

A) Snatch/OH Squat
worked up to 95 for some warm-ups, also did mobility work/stretching for around 10 minutes during this

B) Squat
335 x 1
365 x 1
405 x 1 much better depth than last time with about the same speed I think

C) Top-Half Bench from Pins
325 x 1
345 x 1
365 x 1 PR

Did some curls and core work, followed by around 10 minutes of various stretching and called it a session. Overall, everything felt great. The video for 405 was bad lol, but it felt LIGHT as soon as I unracked it. I’ve got my eye on 425 for my competition February 25th.

Great work… that 425 will be yours for sure

@jake: Thanks, bud!

Squat Erry Day

A) Squat
doubles up to 315, all beltless. Much room for more but I hit 405 yesterday and didn’t want to push it

B) Bench
Doubles up to 275, then
295 x 1
315 x 1
325 x 1
This was fairly easy but I didn’t feel very stable so I stopped.

C) Pulldowns
135 x 10 x 2
150 x 8
180 x 8 x 2

D) Hammer Curls
30s x 10
35s x 0
45s x 8
50s x 8
Pretty strict on all of these

E) Face Pulls
some x some, i also did these in between sets of bench

F) Band Work
Played around for about 20 minutes doing various positions and holds.

NOTES: I’m going to do my best to squat every day from now on like the Average Broz guys recommend. I’m going to keep in mind to err on the side of going too light rather than too heavy, because I obviously don’t know my body as well as they do. But, I would like to see what this does for my mobility and form.

I’ll be really interested to see how it goes. I’ve been thinking about it and my completely unfounded bro thoughts are that: it will work better in olympic shoes/style squatting then in converse/PL style… due to less eccentric damage, especially in terms of hams and lower back.

It will be cool to see if it can be done with any style though.

I don’t get time to read the forums as much as I used to, so don’t really post on here these days. I pretty much just pop by to read the articles, but I have been keeping an eye on a few logs and wanted to say that you have made some awesome progress since you first started. I saw your most recent pics and think you should be really proud at how far you’ve come, if only more guys showed this much commitment to the long game. I usually check in on your indigo log, but can’t post on there, so glad there is this one too. Keep up the good work!

@Jake: We’ll see :slight_smile:

@Lift and Eat: Thanks, man! I really appreciate it. Having access to all of this information from T-Nation, as well as help from everyone on here, makes it easy to progress. I guess not EASY, but easier lol.

Upper 1

(warmed up with some medicine ball slams and throws)

A) OH Press
145 x 3, 150 x 3, 155 x 3, 160 x 3
165 x 2, 170 x 2, 175 x 2
185 x 1
Form was off on the last set but otherwise strength was there.

B) Bench
245 x 3, 255 x 3, 245 x 3, 255 x 3
265 x 2, 275 x 2, 290 x 2
305 x 1

C) Top-Half Bench from Pins
255 x 3, 265 x 3, 275 x 3 x 2
285 x 2, 295 x 2, 305 x 2
325 x 1

D) Squat
265 x 3 x 2, 285 x 3 x 2
305 x 2, 315 x 2 x 2
345 x 1

NOTES: Joints were feeling a little bit achy on bench and squat, but other than that it was a pretty decent session. I realize I need to do more beltless squatting. 345 was a beltless PR but it is usually much faster when I have a belt on.

So I’ve just given myself the extreme cliffs notes version of this log…basically going back and forth between::

*Page 1: deadlifts: 330…wouldn’t budge…

*Page 45: 555 DL…it was actually kind of easy.

Wow, great progress and obvious dedication. Keep at it!

p.s. I also loved the post-clean dance you had going on up there!

Wow, Adam, your most recent pics are awesome, especially compared to where you were around BootCamp 1! You are looking quite lean and very muscular. Your progress and dedication have been and continue to be inspirational.

and congrats on the engagement!!!

@cholulalula: I hadn’t noticed the deadlift progress  thanks for stopping in!

@iDrDan: Really man, thanks a lot! I appreciate the kind words. I love that this log can help even just a single person get motivated to train harder.

So I proposed to Heather last Tuesday night, and she said yes! She was in the process of moving from AZ back to PA and was planning on staying with me for a few nights, so I figured why wait? I drove down to Wichita and back Tuesday morning to get an engagement ring, and asked her that night. It’s really awesome. She also got me a new pair of Chucks  she is uhmazing.
