My Road To BEASTNESS w/ Vids

@All: Thanks, everyone! Feels good to have people supporting me. My family are all very supportive of my school work and lifting, which really helps keep me motivated.

@JHolla: Thanks, man! Good to have someone in the same boat as I am. Congratulations! Have you talked to any companies, and/or have a job lined up? My brother is graduating this May from Civil Engineering, aslo, and he’s just started his first job at Arrowhead Construction (I think is the name?) He’s really excited. gives me something to look forward to.

20, 5, 5, 10

Feet Elevated Pushups

Front Squat 225 X 3

NOTES: Feelin’ pretty good. It’s partly due to deloading, and partly due to being on top of school stuff. I’m going back to campus now to finish up a two part C project. I’ve been working on it the past few days and actually went to campus for 4 hours this morning before class just so I could get my session in today. If I would just prioritize things a little better, I would have a lot less stress lol. I’m gonna eat and watch the new episode of The Office 'cause Will Farrell in on! Then I’m heading back to the library

Awesome front squats. I’ll try to harness your PR energy for tomorrow if I decide to do them.
I like how you go up to the bar like you’re going to mug it lol

Is next week finals for you too?

Good job on the front squat PR! I’m being nit-picky, but when unracking the weight I’d set both feet under the bar instead of kinda one-legging it. Doing so has helped me set up much better and as a result my front squat felt better.

GJ on the front squats! I think you’re stronger than that though, if you practiced them more I could see you hit 275 fairly easily

Yeah I’ve had an internship with a development company for 3 years and they came to me a month ago and asked if I’d be interested in a project management position. It’s not the route I thought I’d take but it’s nice having a salary job the Monday after I graduate. Not a single person in my graduating class has a job lined up other than the two of us who have worked 30-40 hours a week throughout school.

I’m going to try this one last time. I swear, these forums are ridiculous sometimes.

@All: Thanks for the kind words and help with form!

@jholla: That’s awesome man. My hat is off to you, there’s no way I could do school, lift, AND work 30-40 hours on top of that. I’m serious, how do you survive that? But, I have been talking to my dad’s cousin who works at Westar Energy and I might be landing an internship this summer. Hopefully that goes through.

EDIT: FINALLY!

NOTES: almost blacked out on the 3rd rep of my OH Press top set, I have no idea what happened but this is the second time it’s happened. The weight flew up and then everything went dark and it came down like a ton of bricks. I got it together took a few deep breaths and squeezed out a 4th rep. THEN I took a few deep breaths after racking it and got another rep because I was pissed lol.

PLP Challenge Day 33

Pullups: BW X 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 4 = 42 reps

BSS: 20, 10, 12 = 32 reps

Feet Elevated Pushups: 20, 10, 12 = 32 reps

I’m really glad I took yesterday off. I was also going to lift at 11 in between class, but I still wasn’t feeling 100%. 3:00 rolled around and I felt great so I went in and had a great day on squats. Form still needs a lot of work, but it’s getting much better. I can definitely feel my back staying tight now, and I’m really focusing on squeezing my lats.

Nice squattin’. Lately I’ve been experiencing something reminiscent of blacking out while OHPing. But far from as bad as what you’re experiencing. I guess it just goes with the territory :S

Rip that bar up over your back! Tear it in half!

That’ll keep you nice and solid.

Blacking out - make sure you’re breathing right. Could have been some freak blood pressure drop too. Don’t worry, unless it’s chronic.

Awesome PRs.

And those RDLs are awesome.
Very scary about the blackouts, oh my. I’m already scared of OH presses, I’ll hate to add blacking out to the mix.

Great work bro…I get the same blackout/faint/lightheadidness issues myself, I believe it has to force you are exerting combined with holding my breath (with me) when I am trying to get a few more reps I end up pushing and not breathing.

@Aqua: Thanks! I’m hoping it’s nothing serious. I find it weird that it only happens on OH press and not on something more taxing like squats or deadlift.

@talldude: Yeah I really focused on squeezing the hell out of the bar and pulling it down on my 290 X 8 set, it helped a lot. Thanks for stopping in!

@Nikki: Thanks! Hopefully if I focus on breathing it won’t happen anymore lol.

@Matty: Thanks, man. I figured it was a normal issue a lot of people have. As bad as it may sound, I guess I know I’m pushing myself lol.

PLP Challenge Day 34 (43 reps)

Pullups
BW X 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7

Feet Elevated Pushups
20, 10, 7, 6

BSS
20, 13, 10

Well, I had a TURRIBLE session yesterday lol. I had the worst benching experience in a long time. But I know it has to happen, so I did my best to not let it get to me, because I WAS pissed. I’ve been majorly stressed from school, but finals are just a few weeks away so I can finally see the finish line.

5/3/1 Bench

185 X 3 FAST
210 X 3 not bad
240 X 3 failed the 4th
WTF, got 235 X 6 two weeks ago

Pin Press
235 X 3
245 X 3
255 X 2 couldn’t lock the 3rd out

Realized I wasn’t going to be strong today, so I just did a strength complex ala CT
Did this complex 4 times, resting 60-90 seconds between exercises.

A1) Pin Press
235 X 3-5

A2) Bench Press
205 X 3-5

A3) Speed DB Press
45s X 22-25 (no lockout)

A4) Medicine Ball Throws Against Wall
15 lb X 10

A5) Incline Plyo Pushups
8-10

Pullups
44 for PLP Challenge Day 35
also did my feet elevated pushups and BSS when I got home

Today PLP Challenge Day 36 (45 reps)

Pullups
BW X 15, 8, 8, 8, 6

Feet Elevated Pushups
(going to knock these out right now, along with BSS)

NOTES: My initiation into Chi Epsilon (civil engineering organization) is tonight and I’ve been busy with lab reports and whatnot today so no time to train. I could do a late session, but I’m doing a 4 man team strongman competition this Saturday that has a 405 deadlift for reps event so I figured I might as well rest up for it. I forgot to mention to strongman contest lol, but I’ll try to get vids.

Eh, crappy sessions happen. Good thing is summer is just around the corner

Congrats again on the honor society and that strongman comp sounds like it’ll be loads of fun.

Wow, that complex looks brutal.
Sorry about the sucky session, it is frustrating.

Very cool on the Strongman contest.

Back/Biceps

Neutral Grip Pullups
BW X 10, 10, 10, 8, 8 = 46 reps

DB Rows (was waiting for squat rack to open)
70s X 15
85s X 15
100s X 15 (good squeeze and hole at top, much harder)

UH BB Rows
155 X 12
185 X 12
205 X 12 (got a little sloppy)

V-Bar Pulldowns
135 X 12
165 X 10
190 X 6
210 X 5
135 X 9

Straight-Arm Pulldowns
70 X 15
90 X 12
110 X 9 PR
80 X 15

HS Low Rows
3 sets of 12

Seated DB Hammer Curls
worked up to 50s X 10, rest-pause +5 reps PR

EZ Bar Preacher Curls
75 X 8
85 X 6
55 X 12 X 2

Cable Curls
80 X 15 X 3

NOTES: Good session. Whenever I go above 185 on rows I lose the feeling in my lats for some reason. I may start working on them but I have really just never liked them.

I can’t WAIT FOR SUMMAH! haha

Thanks, bud! I ended up winning a prize for having the best looking painted transit (a wooden cutout of the society’s emblem) so it was pretty cool haha. We were blind folded and walked into a dark room where the current members of the society read us a bunch of stuff and then we “pledged” haha. It was a fun experience.

The complex rocked what was left of my socks off (?) lol

I think the strongman comp will be fun. I’m honestly not too psyched about it, but it should be a good time

Very cool, and nice back/bi session it has me all psyched to start training back.

Agreed, man, that complex looks insane, I may have to try it, s l o w l y

Lol I feel the same way about rowing. But my back sucks, so whether I like them or not, I gotta do 'em.

You’ll be psyched about the comp when you do it. Those are awesome DB rows, so I’m sure that your farmer walks are going to be crazy.
