Yeah, I hate squatting with a passion. I think my legs lost some strength on HP Mass. For lower body, you use only 80% of your 3RM on your TOP SETS. I kind of wasn’t expecting much strength gains on it. I’m going to be using my bastardized version of 5/3/1 for squat and deadlift, and possibly OH as well.
So does that mean that your not doing HPM anymore?
Well I was never planning on doing the exact HPM outline, just using the principals. But yeah, I am planning on using HPM principals at each workout (i.e. as many sets of 3 I feel I can get away with with pressing, eccentric-less work, strength circuits from time to time, tect.).
Sounds sweet man, looking forward to seeing how you plan it all out.

Delt Isolation Circuit (done twice)
Seated Rear Delt Flys
Seated Incline Laterals
Seated Incline Front Raises
Standing Front Raises

NOTES: Push press is going to climb once I get the hang of it. Was pretty spent (pressing wise) when I got to decline so I didn’t do much.

Noice pressing man! You’re real explosive off your shoulders with your push press, something I’d love to have

So whats up in here?

Just discovered this log, good lookin work in here.

@Aqua: You’ve got me beat in the push press, so that’s gotta mean something about your explosive strength. But don’t count on that for long, once I get my form down

@Dixies: Just a lot of hard work man lol. Thanks for dropping in!

NOTES: Glad to back back on my bastardized 5/3/1. Nothing beats getting yourself psyched up for that all out set.

Nice stuff bud. Glad to see you’re still sticking with it.

Sick pulls bro. How exactly is it a bastardized version on 5/3/1? Sure, you have some back down sets, but aside from that, to looks like 5/3/1 to me.

I hear you on getting psyched for that one all out set. Right now I’m trying to be chill and calm when approaching my lifts. Nice job on the PR, nothing like repping out some DLs.

Man I’ve got to at least keep you chasing for something with OHPing, that’s all I have on you haha.

EDIT: Now I’m going to have to resist the urge to max out my push press if I’m not feeling it…

Flat DB Flyes 35 X 10
Pushups with added chains X max reps
Pushups X max reps

NOTES: Wasn’t feeling it at all going in. got a bit into it during cleans and started feeling really good during pin press. Had a thermodynamics exam this morning that I studies for last night, took a lot out of me (mentally). It was 3 problems long, and we had 80 minutes to finish, and 1 kid actually finished out of at least 100 kids total. It was probably the hardest test I’ve taken lol.

Thanks bud, hope your training has been going well.

Well I know it’s nothing Jim prescribes exactly, but it’s pretty much 5/3/1. I just make sure I say it’s my own version of it, otherwise kids come around and say “This isn’t 5/3/1. You’re not supposed to blah blah blah” lol. So thank you for approving (no sarcasm)

Yeah man, those top sets are where the fun is.

Haha, I’ll catch you eventually. I think I’ll keep my regular OH press as the main 5/3/1 exercise, and then throw in some sets of push press after. I gotta work on it if I’m gonna beat you!

Sounds like a killer of a test, glad you survived :P.

It’s true you gotta work to beat me, but I’m gonna be working to keep you chasing

I’m tuned in brother

It should be a great time, looking forward to it. won’t be posting until probably Sunday night if I get a session in, so keep training hard fellas!

Well this sucks, I’m gonna have to start making some real progress! Haha, I appreciate it. I was planning on getting you a video today of a nice dropset as stated in your article, but my partner bailed on me and my buddy was at our strength club going for a 600 deadlift and there is no leg press there. I will get that video for you, trust me!

My Arnold Expo experience:

(This set the mood for the entire day) Within the first 5 minutes of us being there (two buddies and I), we hopped on an escalator to get into the actual expo. There was a guy in front of us with another products jacket and spiked blond hair, surrounded by a few other guys. I thought “Damn, that guys pretty big” as he turned to the side and I saw it was Jay Cutler! Haha, I got a video of it, but didn’t bother him. It kind of sucks because my buddies are more into strongman and powerlifting (I am too of coarse) that they don’t know much about bodybuilding. So everywhere we went it was me saying (“Oh, Ed Nunn! Kai Greene! Phil Heath!” While they were like “Huh?”

Saw Stan Efferding! He put on a show inside a cage of him lifting. He repped 405 on incline as a “warmup” set before he repped the 215 DBs (I think). We didn’t stick around for the DBs but I got some vids of his incline benching.

Also was right on the side of the carpet when it was blocked off for Arnold Schwarzenegger so I got to stand about half a foot from him as he walked by! I won’t lie though, I stuck my hand out for a hand shake as everyone else was doing, and I got the cold shoulder. That’s probably the worst fucking cold shoulder you can get in your entire life haha. I was too shocked to see him to care though, it was a great time!

Also got to watch the strongman competing, it’s insane seeing those guys 300 lb doing stone pickups with 535 lb stones. They also did some variation of a weird farmer walk with an apparatus weighing over 1,000 lbs. Got some vids that I’ll throw up.

I’m tired as shit lol. We drove 11 hours Friday night to get there at midnight. Went to a bar in the ghetto, walked in and were the only 3 white guys in the place haha. I mean I won’t lie when I was uncomfortable walking in, but we had a great time and were runnin the pool tables til 2 in the morning. Some guys even bought us a round of beers lol.

Got in at 3 am last night and I plan to take one of the thousand of free supplements before doing my overhead work lol. To anyone interested, I’d say go to the Arnold next year. It is a great time.

“The Rhino!” :

I’ve never actually done any seated DB presses. Are they easier than doing them standing?
AquaCruzer wrote:

MUCH easier lol. I never do standing DBs though, so I can’t say how much exactly

Damn dude, sounds like a great time, and to top it off with pool in the early hours lol. Looks like a pretty long ass session you just posted.
