My Road To BEASTNESS w/ Vids

Honestly, if I had TIME today, I would say “to hell” with this deload lol. I can honestly notice a difference in my mood when I’m not getting my gym time. I’ve had two lab reports due today (I’m currently finishing), a homework assignment, a paper due tomorrow, a lab today, and an exam tomorrow morning. So I haven’t had time to do my oly practice, but hopefully I can squeeze 30 minutes or an hour in today if I knock that paper out quick.

Just some advice for everyone else: don’t watch videos like this if you want to get to the gym but don’t have the time. It will drive you crazy lol

Speaking of California Strength, I just watched their technique videos and WOW. It all makes sense and seems so simple haha. Now to practice, practice, practice. And stretch lol.
Yeah man, those videos helped me out a town. I’m really bummed the coach in the video, Glenn Pendlay, no longer has his forum section on this site.

Fair enough, I study externally and my time management stinks.
I would certainly struggle with the volume if I had to fit in actual classes as well.

Really interested in how you’ll organize the split;
Do you think you will continue eccentric-less sessions?
I was thinking that this week “Man, if I were on HP Mass still, I would be really bummed because there’s no way I could get those sessions in” lol.

I think I’ll definitely be doing the eccentric-less sessions, now that the weather is nice. I have my own makeshift prowler/sled I made from a tire and blast straps. I’ll make sure to get a video the first time I use it. Haven’t been able to yet :frowning:

I think I’ll still retest my 3RMs when I get back to the gym, just to see if I gained ANY strength while dropping a few pounds.

Sounds like you have your hands full, all the best for the exams and stuff.
I reckon you will definitely get some PR’s come test week.

NOTES: Good day back from the deload. Hit a NICE PR on weighted chins. I was pretty pissed 'cause the rec was packed. Also, I ran into a girl that I’ve been talking to on and off for a while, but I’m fed-up with her crap so I just waved and kept up with the workout. I credit her for my PR on chins lol

Thanks, man. Got all of my work done. It never ends though lol

Hit a SOLID PR today already lol, more to come!

That’s a pretty badass PR…I wonder how many bodyweight chins you could do. Oh, do you do them strict? Like, going all the way down and no kipping? I see a lot of dudes cutting ROM just a tad short of full extension. Not that it really takes anything away from it, but heavy, full ROM chins are just so fucking awesome.

Thanks, man! Well, I stop a little shy of full extension. If I go all the way down, I lose the MMC with my lats and it turns into an ugly kipping motion like you said lol. But I go all the way up, chin over bar on each rep. Also, I squeeze each rep at the top, and take a SLOW negative on the last rep. My best before this was BW +60 X 4, so I’m pretty happy. I think I hit 80 for 1 ugly rep before also, so it was definitely a good PR

Awesome session man! Especially those weighted chins.

Good call on the girl. If anything it’s her loss.

Congrats on the PR! You smashed it!
Looking forward to seeing more.

How ironic; your old PR is my current one. Lol. But yeah, I know what you mean with losing strength when going rock bottom. Something that I feel that has helped me is keeping my shoulder-blades tucked back and down to keep my lats engaged. Anyway, good stuff on the PR once again…that’s one hell of an improvement from the last time you did these.

Thanks AC! Can’t wait until I’m repping 2 plates. Almost there

Haha, thanks man. Kind of sucks, seems like every girl you meet turns out to be completely different once you get to know her

Thanks bud!
Hell yeah, keep an eye out today when I go for my OH max

Haha, nice man. Yeah, I focus on keeping my shoulder blades back and eyes up throughout the lift. Getting my elbows as far back as I can at the top, I can definitely feel my lats working.

Sunday Post-Fast Weight
183.6
(down 2.7 lbs in 11 days I think)

Well, I’m getting leaner, but I don’t really care lol. I’m pretty upset with myself, I’ve always said I wouldn’t waste my time “cutting”. BUT, I was kind of letting the weight gain get out of control. YES, I do believe you have to say goodbye to the abs and whatnot if you want to be able to stick out in a crowd. But, I think I took it too fast. You don’t have to get fatty fat in order to get big, and I think that was where I was headed to if I kept at it. Once I’m done with this (and get a nice $500 supplement shopping  ), I’m going back to my old ways: hitting the weights HARD and eating a reasonable amount of good food to allow for nice strength gains and slow scale increases.

I hear you with the whole two faced girl nonsense. But I figure if anything good happens then awesome, if not then life goes on.

Oh please, you were far from being fatty fat. You’re being too hard on yourself, that’s natural when you have high expectations. But yes, do hurry up with the cutting and start putting on some slabs of beef.
AquaCruzer wrote:

Or pork…mmmmm…:F

But frankly, I agree with Aqua; you were never really getting fat to begin with if you ask me. Personally, I believe that anyone who performs heavy barbell complexes on a regular basis will pretty much always stay reasonably lean unless they A.) Were fat to begin with or B.) Pull a Dave Tate.

AC: Yes, I do agree. I try to keep the language PG-13 on the forums, but a good saying “Fuck bitches, get money” lol.

AC and Justice: Well, I’m not saying I was fat, because I wasn’t. No, I wasn’t lean at all, but I wasn’t fat. BUT, I’m saying I started crazy force-feeding myself for a little while. It did get the scale weight moving faster, but strength gains were coming along just as fast as before. I was just saying I need to cut that crap out and keep it smart with the weight gain like I had been. and yeah Justice, as long as someone is hitting it hard in the gym with the money-maker exercises, and getting a reasonable amount of excess good calories, it’s gonna be hard to get actualz fat lol

And thanks guys, 'cause I really do appreciate it!

Oh ok I think I see what you mean: there’s really no point in eating like you have in the past if it doesn’t actually make much of a difference in strength gains. Do I got it now? :stuck_out_tongue:

Lol, definitely man. I was making good progress gaining slow weight, and then I got the mindset of crap like what was said in Rippetoe’s recent article. Don’t get me wrong: I’m not disagreeing with the man. Kids need to eat a LOT more. BUT, that message is directed to kids who weigh 130 that look like a girl with a shirt on. I think he throws out “5,000-6,000 cals a day” just to get kids eating more than they are. I loved that article by the way, because it was messages like that that got me into making the progress I have been. Seriously, I credit all of my progress to being a member of T-Nation and lifting in a strength club with stronger guys than myself. If you want to get bigger/stronger (really want to) and surround yourself with bigger/stronger guys, you WILL get to where you want to be in a matter of time.

I know what you mean…it seems a lot more critical to eat like a madman when you’re a complete novice as apposed to say a dude who’s like 195 @ 5"9 and and been training seriously for a while since the latter’s been seasoned a little. While you obviously still need a relatively high caloric intake, just as with any sport, I don’t really believe that intermediates or above actually have to eat like Rippetoe says and that it was targeted towards the populace that you described since they tend to eat like birds to begin with. But if someone’s doing super hard training like Smolov or C/P, you’d bet that they better eat up. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve always been envious of dudes who get to train at an actual strength club as opposed to just another commercial gym. At my gym, I’m one of a few who does any overhead work, a small handful who deadlift, and the ONLY one who does zerchers from the floor. lmfao :D. But, that’s all alright.

Upper Pressing (shoulder/tri emphasis)

Standing OH
75 X 3
95 X 3
105 X 3
115 X 3
135 X 3
150 X 3
160 X 3 FLEW up. Not a PR but much easier than my PR of 165 X 3
175 X 1 PR but HEAVY lol. I was expecting at least 2, but I guess I should be happy.

Was completely in the zone on my sets before 175, then kind of lost it.

Seated DB
50 X 6
60 X 5
70 X 5
75 X 4 pretty gassed from PR on OH

CGBP
135 X 5
165 X 5
185 X 5
205 X 3
215 X 3
205 X 3

Laterals
4 sets

Front Raises
4 sets

Cable Tricep Pushdown
4 sets

NOTES: Pretty bummed about the session, but now that I think about it, it wasn’t too bad. I’ve lost a solid 10 pounds since my PR of 165 X 3, and missing 175. So, I haven’t really lost any strength, and may have gained a bit, but that’s not enough for me.

Nice OHP PR! I’d be pretty happy if I dropped weight yet still hit a PR.
AquaCruzer wrote:

D2) “Prowler” Pushes
Bench 225 X 1 lap

NOTES: Damn, great day. So I hit 2 solid PRs, all while dropping a little over 10 pounds. Pretty good in my book. Also, I haven’t touched anything over 365 on deadlift since January 1st, so I guess that’s also saying something

I’m trying to upload the videos but having problems.
