My road to 1500

Supposed to be bench day today, but I’ve been bed bound all day!! Everytime I stand up I go dizzy / light headed and nauseous, not a good feeling! Drs tomorrow if I’m no better, hopefully I am though cuz I wanna train! :frowning:

Not good. Sounds like at the least severe dehydration.

I have no idea what it was, I feel a lot better today, just have a headache left over from whatever it was!

Think training will be getting skipped again until tomorrow.

That sounds absolutely like severe dehydration. It can really sneak up on you. I’d get a few litres of Hydralyte and go through them over the next two days or so.

I had it a few years back after a flu. I’d had a fever and didn’t notice how much fluid I’d lost on sweat. Went to emergency when I kept nearly passing out one day. Doctor took one look at me and stuck me on a saline drip for three hours. Took me a week to come back to normal.

Yea possibly, I’m feeling a lot better after lazing around and making sure I drink a lot! I don’t see how this has caught up with me though as I drink atleast 4 litres of water a day, sometimes more… I figured that was enough.

Just finished reading through your log. You’re lifting my goal weights at a similar body weight and height. Just so happens I’m giving the 5/3/1 a go as well. Congrats on your progress, and I hope whatever hit you yesterday passes quickly.

It would normally be, until you start losing more fluid than you’re aware of. It sneaks on you. What happened to me was that I was doing mobile patrols in winter so I was rugged up; end of shift when I took my jacket off the lining was wet for three or four nights running which I put down to the rain. Fifth day I got up, had breakfast and nearly passed out. Went to hospital, and that was it.

Thanks buddy, it seems to have passed  just not sure whether to brave the gym tonight or just write this week off… Its only deload after all!

Come to think of it, it has been warmer than usual last few days at work  ah well, lesson learnt! More fluids!!!

Write it off. It’s a deload.

The 5s pro sets today felt so easy, and I smashed the PR set! Decided to xo the FSL as 3x8.

Had a long talk to 1 of the guys at the gym today whos competing at the same meet as me in November, and hes toying with the idea of using Canditos 6 week program to peak for the meet! He’s asked me to join him for the ride and I’m sorely tempted to, I’ve got until the end of this cycle to decide though! Any advice on the matter? @MarkKO @max13

If the guy is more experienced than you and will offer more help than he requires from you, I say absolutely do it. The few times I have been able to train with others and get pointers and cues in my lifts have been the most productive in my training life.

If he’s a beginner and needs your help, i would say still train with him but don’t mold your programming around him.

Either way its always better to have a training partner than not.

I think hes got about a year on me, so I don’t think theres all that much between us… The difference being hes competed before and I haven’t so he knows more than me in that respect!

It would be nice to train with someone for a while though, instead of by myself.

Yeah, in that case I say go for it! The only downside is switching up your programming, but Candito is a solid program as well and the benefits you’d reap from having another set of eyes and ears to train with can’t be understated.

I dont mind switching it up a little, this is my 5th cycle of 531, and the end of this current cycle puts me 7 weeks out so it would fall quite nicely I think.

My only concern is after checking it out, week 1 and 2 is a lot of volume!!

Yeah, I think you bench 3x per week to start on Candito? I’ve never run it myself but a bunch of guys I lifted with at my last meet said they ran it. By all accounts its a solid program and the volume should fall off quick after the first two weeks

Yea its 3 bench days and 2 squat / deadlift days for the first 2 weeks, then it drops to 4 days per week with the 5th week is just 3 days

Sounds manageable. It was designed specifically for peaking for a meet (I think Candito himself used it for IPF Junior Worlds or some other big-time meet) so it should fit into your meet prep well I would think

Thanks Max, its nice to be able to get another opinion on things

This I agree with.

Assuming the above, and if you don’t think switching for six weeks will throw you off, you should be OK. If you have doubts, don’t.
