My Left Shoe

Ooooo, yay! Thank for including the vids. You’re giving me all sorts of ideas here rubs hands together menacingly

Yeah, form looks damn good - super crisp! I recently tried Sumos and I felt it helped keep my form in check. But I wasn’t taught to go so wide in the stance. After seeing your vid, I looked up “proper form” on the Sumo and, yeah, feet to plates - wtf?!? That’s what you get for not questioning authority.

Oh and those GHRs looks killer!

always nice to see the bear. i was in the rack last night and thought of you and your damn 155 front squats, biatch.

buckeye girl, that video is just wrong! thanx for sharing, it made me laugh…

He looks as though he’s trying to channel Russell Mael and failing miserably.
My eyes have been sullied.

Made it through the day with no bodies… my family rocks, so so much.

no lifting till tuesday… taking the weekend off and relaxing (cuz yeah, ive been in the gym every day forever… rite)

Nothing whatsoever wrong with rest and recovery. Have a great weekend!

Yeah I’m having a few lazy days as well. I want to come back fresh in the new year. Gym’s closed yesterday and today anyway - may pop in for some prehab sessions.
Glad you had a good Christmas.

I’m baaaaaack!!!

Spent a very “mew” weekend, most of it in t-shirt and sweatpants, with G and 5 incredible Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies. new puppies. just a few weeks old. (mentioned them earlier) the puppy named after me is, of course, my favorite, and just so happens to be a rather impressive eater. She was the first one to open her eyes, and the first one to figure out how to crawl out of her crate. yeah, baby!

Had an incredible second christmas and got to see a few friends as well. Ate a ton and didn’t lift at all. Took 2 naps yesterday. If I can get unstressed and re-motivated**, I’ll be back in the gym this evening, but definitely tomorrow morning.

**It’s amazing how quickly being home and making a few phone calls can screw up an otherwise brilliant day.

Pictures should follow sometime this evening.

gonna go check on everyone else…

Puppy pictures would be good. This could help brighten everyone’s screwed up day.

they would be good. my apologies that they aren’t up yet. G is slacking.

Training!

ohp 5/3/1

x5: bar, bar, 55, 65, 75

x3: 85

x amrap: 95x7

accessory:

1 arm db neutral grip floor press 3x10 40lbs
superset with reg pushups

cg neutral cable rows to stomach- 3x15 150, 180, 210 ← that stack is good for my ego. someday, maybe i’ll test it to see how off it is. maybe not.

seated moo raises, 3x20 45lbs

then the gym closed.

some musings- i’ve felt noticeably weaker in my ohp the last several months. while im not sure why, i’ve also been having the occasional migraine, which i affectionately tease and call them “menengitis headaches,” because they start in the back of my neck. the two may be completely unrelated, but i’m sure someone here might be able to give me a clue, and I’ll ask Mike about it when we go see him.

ps. my best all time ohp was 135x3, happened last march, before i scared off that particular training partner. (he was one of the best ive had here. sadface.) I was terrified of the lift but soooo crazy about the idea of doing it, and i felt incredibly strong that day… i insisted that he keep his hands on the bar the whole time, but told him that if he helped at all i’d beat him to a bloody pulp before i ran over him with my car. he swore afterward that he didnt help. my best in the last few months was 120 for 3, i think.

i’m not incredibly upset about it, bc my lower body lifts have rocked my world, and that’s what i’ve wanted to focus on anyway, so im not beating myself up about it. just thinking aloud to a few thousand viewers like you.

not training*

forgot a story from the weekend. its one of those that’s a lot funnier in person, so i’ll do my best.

I wore a halter top out on sat night while i was at the bar with G and a few other friends. one of the other bouncers was talking with me about strength, and i happened to mention that i could bench press the guy on my left. (he weighs 145, and is a triathlete) doubtful looks from Doubtful Bouncer, and after confirmation of my boast from G and another person, i smiled and flexed my right bicep, a teasing brotard kinda move. Doubtful Bouncer shook his head again. So, i turned around, and lifted up my hair. waited a split second, and flexed my back. I was facing G, who burst out laughing, and i turned around to see that Doubtful Bouncer was now Wide-Eyed-And-Kinda-Scared-Bouncer. yeah, the ego was fed well on sat night.

I know that headache well. After shoving stuff over my head I sometimes get this deep ache in either my trap or one of the underlying muscles. It can go from my neck down to between my shoulder blades and out along the top of my shoulder. Can end up as a headache (I had the lovely neck headache yesterday, despite having rested two days). It’s a real bitch.

I know in my case there’s a muscle imbalance on the right (possibly from fucking up my RC when I was 24 and possibly also from sleeping on my front with my head turned to the left) where the traps are doing stuff the other muscles should be doing. I’ve been doing my scap work and foam rolling but it still haunts me.
Definitely get it checked out.

Oh and nice story. I do shit like that all the time. It’s fun to mess with the male ego.

Nice tread and nice videos

Keep up the good work

It sounds to me like your OHP pressing is suffering from a lack of wings and tequila shots.

Yeah I know it sounds retarded but I was just wearing down a few months ago and said “to hell with it” went out and ate 2.5 dozen wings with 8-10 tequila shots and I woke up feeling like a million dollars.

besides even if it doesn’t work it’ll be fun.

This is actually something that gets me unreasonably upset. The cable stack at my gym is some sort of Life Fitness model. The best information that I can get on this machine suggests that the weight stack corresponds NEITHER to lbs. or kgs., but is some weird-ass company-specific standard. That is seriously fucked up. Because I can’t quantify the weight I’m lifting, I am less interested in using that machine.

That is weird. I’ve got no wisdom on this one.

I love this story.

Cal- i strained/pulled/injured my right rotator cuff when i was a senior in highschool… 4 years of varsity swimming, my stroke was freestyle (frontcrawl)… i know now HOW stupid 3 hrs of repetition like that, 5 nites a week is, all i knew then was that i couldnt lift it.

u can still feel it bump and grind over scar tissue when i repeat that pulling movement, but it’s never hurt or given me trouble while i was lifting.

labonova- thanks! your name makes me think of labia. teehee.

joe- there is no shortage of junkfood in my diet… and i’m pretty sure that many tequila shots would put me outta commission for the next day. i think i used up 10 years of recovering ability when i was 19-22. those were good years, though.

kimba- i used to be furious with that machine. at this point, if it’s heavy enough and i know where to move the pin to make it heavier, i’ll be ok with it. there’s another, rusty cable stack on a diff machine in a corner far far away from the free weights. it’s old enough that the people who used to work in the old building don’t remember it being new. (new building is abt 5 years old) it’s scary and i feel like im gonna break it whenever i use it.

I’m just trolling through here at CBear’s request and posting some pics from the weekend she wanted up. Don’t panic.

$1200 worth of cute.

Tooo cute!!

Go ahead, it’s alright to say it: Awwww.
