Its Like CK Fire Support, I got the contract for 0861 Fire Control Man. One of the recruiters in my area was one and I originally was slated for infantry but changed it when he told me about it.
MCT, 8 Weeks artillery school, 8 weeks naval gunfire school, and I can attempt to join ANGLICO which was sounds pretty legit. Do a google search on them.
hey bro, try this out and get back to me… but do sprint intervals… that is sprint as hard & as fast as you can for about 30 seconds, then slow down to a jog for about 2 min then walk for abou 3 min, do that 12-15 times… it sucks but hey, suck it up.
After about 2 weeks of doing that start sprinting for about 1 min maybe 1:30 for as fast as u can, (when u feel like giving up just think about that Eagle Globe and Anchor and push urself to go faster) then jog for about 3-5 min then walk for 3 min do that about 14-16 times… this kind of training helps burn fat as well as endurance and helps with speed…
oh yeah if you have access to a pool… start swimming three times a week if not every day…start by swiming laps for about 10 min… then as that week finishes swim laps for about 12-15, then 15-20 and so on…
Yeah I’ll give the sprinting a shot
I also just joined the YMCA just so I could swim
I’ll write the sprinting into my morning running alternating with 3 mile runs every other day
I’ll do this for a month and report back to you
USMCPoolee
That MOS sounds pretty sweet I googled ANGLICO and that would be awesome if you could get on one of those teams
There’s not too many jobs or people in this world who get to pick up a phone and call in some map coordinates and then watch a piece of dirt with everything on it get fucking vaporized
Maybe someday you’ll save my ass with that close air support
I also recommend the sprints, especially endurance sprints like he recommended. so i second that, which is the only reason that i posted this time. stay strong.
Now that I have worked solely on my PFT exercises for about a month I feel like my base is there and I’m going to start working on other qualities again
My new schedule is this
Mon- Morning PT -Swimming
Tues-Morning PT -Weightlifting
Wed- Swimming -Poolee PT
Thurs-Morning PT -3 Mile Run
Fri- Morning PT -Weightlifting
Sat- Swimming/IST
Morning PT will consist of
3 Mile Run
Pullups
Pushups
Situps
Weightlifting
as much as I hate full body routines I think that is the only way I can keep some semblance of strength training with all this conditioning
Tues
Power Clean
Squat
Military Press
One Arm Dumbell Row
Fri
Power Clean
Sumo Deadlift
Bench
Bent Row
These will be with moderate weight and rep ranges such as a 5x5, 4x6, 3x8 etc
Swimming
Each week increase distance
split laps between Brest Stroke and Freestyle
and end session with 10 min in hot tub
At night I’m going to begin to do a static stretch routine right before bed
I will also rotate exercises in PT and Weightlifting every 4 weeks or so
This is an ambitious plan but the morning PT doesn’t tax me too bad and I only go to school on Tues and Thur so I have all day to eat and rest to keep my energy levels high
What Severed wrote is not true… he went through boot a lot earlier… boot is much softer than it ever was. PT was at no point challenging… the only hard things in relation to PT were humping and to fall out of a hump well… don’t be a weak person; mental strength is everything.
You’ll get a full 8 hours of sleep, don’t let anyone bullshit you about it… if they say anything different they’re fuckin liars… or older Marines lol.
Hey autry… yeah i’ve been in a while…but hey… when u get to the fleet there will be older marines there… so keep up with them… and yeah it’s true, im not a boot ass mother fucker but i just would hope that u don’t want to be like every other motherfucker that just did the bare minimum…
Bootcamp may have gotten soft, i bet its still a little harder than anything else, (thats probably why the airforce won’t take marines trying to rejoin unless they do extensive “Psych evalves”) anyways… but i did notice u did not have any rest days during ur workout routines…
But try to put a rest day on wed, sat and maybe sunday too… other than that, keep passing word and i’ll keep checking in on you… errrrr.
oh i will agree with mbarret, mental strenght is everything…
Well I don’t know if you actually read my posts severed but obviously I want to do much more than the bare minimum. I joined the Marine Corps to be the best and that’s what I’m going to give and by the time I leave for Boot I hope to be in the best shape of my life and I only hope to improve from there.
As far as rest days I take Sunday completely off and Sat is a light day.
I have a lot of work to do and a short amount of time so I exercise M-F straight every week.
As far as the difficulty of Boot Camp is concerned I wouldn’t care if it was a fucking gauntlet of death or easier than Air Force basic.
I want to be in shape enough to be able to accomplish anything the Corps and my fellow Marines ask me to do at any moment any where. I want to do well on my PFT and CFT but that’s not why I PT everyday. I PT for the Corps.
And as far as mental strength I agree in my personal experience it is everything. I also know that I have never been tested mentally like I will be in the Corps but let my reiterate I joined to be the fucking best and that is exactly what I am going to give and be.
I will not let a little physical anguish stop me. I joined the United States Marine Corps not the Coast Guard not the fucking Air National Guard. I have made a commitment and I plan to stick to it and I will succeed and give my best.
To any one reading this is if there is any doubt about my determination then please and politely FUCK OFF! I will earn the Title of Marine and I will honor that title by serving proudly and to the best of my ability.
mbarret6 and severed I appreciate you both reading my log and giving me advice. I hope you both continue to do so for the next 124 days till I ship.
DEF sounds like your extremely committed to living not only a healthy life but a life in the Marines. Thanx for the updates and stats it’s a good log and interesting to read!!!
Thanks gamesadvocate
I only hope my stats get better as this log goes on.
I don’t have long now until I leave only a little over 4 months so it should only get better from here.
I hope you continue to read my log and comment if you have any advice or encouragement for me.
Thanks again.
Tomorrow starts my new workout week and it will be interesting to see how it goes. Last week I started a new workout schedule but only did half of the week so a full week of it should be pretty strenuous. I have also decided to start a program for my pushups like I have for my pullups which has greatly improved them. Its going to be four sets starting with
20 15 10 5
Each week each set will increase by 5
so week 2 would be
25 20 15 10
and so on
I’ll try this and see if it helps out my reps and rep quality.
As of now I only have about 4 months till I ship and I see that as a short amount of time to greatly improve my strength and conditioning. Starting today as well I’m going to devote more time to learning Marine Corps Knowledge such as Generals Orders etc. Its not long now and I can’t wait to give my best and earn the title of United States Marine.
If you stick to this routine then you and I both know that the results will be phenomenal. Even if you stop a rep short you know you will only be cheating yourself and cheating God because of the gifts he has given you. I don’t know about you, but i know that’s too much for me to bear. With each repetition you grow stronger as a person, in mind, body, and spirit as the Y so proudly preaches.
I have noticed that your pullups have improved greatly and continue to do so. Many kudos to you.
The newfound pushup routine that mimics the pullup routine sounds terrific. I am very interested to see how it goes.
I have been snowboarding all weekend so that’s why i haven’t been on in so long.
I was thinking about your rep improvements. triangle pushups, wide pushups, regular pushups, dips… pullups, chinups, close grip on both, super wide grip… jogging for extended periods, sprinting, side to side shuttles… Crunches, situps, leg raises, twists. There are so many variations to every lift that you are trying to perfect and hitting them from every angle seems like it would possibly lead to an extremely well-rounded strength in all of those different areas which would definitely feed into itself helping you even quicker towards your goals.
With posts like the one up above I am proud to be your friend and happy to know that there is at least one other capable and willing person out there to give their life up for the greater good. Your gifts are many my friend and i am thrilled that you continue to pursue them which will undoubtedly lead to them increasing tenfold. May God Bless You in your pursuits.
Thank you Draper
Your words mean more than you’ll ever know.

Ok a friend of mine just started weightlifting so I go to the Y with him instead of lifting in my garage gym. This has become a huge problem for me because around him and other people I start to lift for ego and not for strength. I just wanted to do a moderate full body weightlifting routine twice a week but instead I do more than I feel like my body can take right now. This will change. I will not let my own stupidity and arrogance get me hurt.
Squat 5x5 135 225 275 295 305 - wanted to stay in the 250 range
Military Press 5x5 95 115 135 155 185 - wanted to stay in 150 range
One Arm Row 4x8 70 80 90 100 1x3 125 - wanted to stay in 80-90 range
and finally I was encouraging my friend to do a pullup and I did 10 which is stupid because I do them every morning
Oh and I was walking around with my Testosterone shirt on
The only thing I need to inflate my ego is the title of United States Marine.
I do not need to impress a bunch of middle age men at the YMCA.
My accomplishments and integrity should impress others not how much weight I can grunt and throw around unless it is in competition.
This is something I need to work on. To be a good team player in the Corps I need to kill my ego and arrogance.
Thank God tomorrow is swimming because my legs are screaming after running 6 400m and Squatting tonight.
You have a lot of time left before you can get murdered by the Drill Instructors, so don’t slow down. Boot camp for me was a joke, but I was in pretty decent shape and I can follow instructions.
What I suggest is think about playing some club sports to boost your work capacity, because even though you do a lot of exercises, you can always increase it. I did rugby and mixed martial arts for years, not that I am not suggesting either necessarily, but it will help to pick up a sport.
Do you have shin splints at all (yet)?
Also try picking up doing dips on a regular basis (with pull-ups and the push-ups). Maybe try including the dive-bomber push-up.
