I’m not having a go at you mate, just giving you advice. Seriously though, you need to shit can the walking, yesterday. If you’re going to do anything for over 30 minutes that’s like, walking, trotting, swimming, whatever, fuck it off, and make it a run. You’ll get further, and fitter.

I won’t know how I’ll act till the first Drill Instructors starts yelling me so well see. I don’t think though that I’m any more arrogant than the next guy so thats good.
Keep your eyes front and don’t react. Whatever position you’re in maintain it, but listen carefully in case you are issued an order during the rant. If issued an order obey immediately without question and without a change in expression.
Roll your eyeballs, smirk, or otherwise show attitude and you’re going to get lots of attention.[/quote]
Thanks for the advice. I’ll remember that.

I know it.
Now for a break from the wrath of lloydk.
You haven’t stopped yet. I’m proud. I’m wondering when is the last time you have had an extended period of rest, for more than three days. The reason I’m wondering is not that I don’t know the answer, but it is to point that out. I just recently (as you know) took off for a week and a half from pure frustration… but I know my legs needed it… but I did not lose any strength over that period of time.
Suggestion 1:
Perhaps you should take a good period of rest… say… maybe three days. Eat healthy, study up, sleep a little longer, then come back ready to fight.
Suggestion 2: Rest for seven days. For the first four perform no physical activity, then for the next three (or more if you think) just do sprints. Do them until you think your body can’t take it anymore, then keep going, because you are just as aware as I am that you’re body can handle much more stress that we give it credit for. Throw out any strength exercises for a minute. Eat some cottage cheese, drink skim milk, drink more water. lose some weight.
But they are just suggestions. The only thing that I am going to tell you to do is to talk to you know and ask her on a date.

76 Days Till Boot Camp
Morning PT
150 Burpees
I used my heavy bag for the jumps so that kept them consistent.
I plan on thrashing myself tonight in my evening pt.
Draper
I take Sundays off so I get one day off a week from exercising.
I’ve made some progress but overall I wouldn’t say I’ve done that great. Especially when it comes to running.
So I would say I don’t deserve a week off.
I have planned to take an extremely light week before I ship though.
Crank up the running buddy. Crank it up or you will suffer.
Also, for some more advice: Don’t make any assumptions about what training is going to be like. Don’t worry about the finer details of things. Don’t worry about your instructor screaming in your face and all that bollocks. Just make sure you’re physically fit, play the game, and everything else will take care of itself.
I’ve seen guys who spent a lot of time learning everything about the Royal Marines and stuff before they joined up, and I’ve seen them fail miserably as well.
I’ve seen guys who know fuck all about the Royal Marines, and I’ve been side by side with them on 30 mile runs, and some intense beastings.
Anyways… have you been running today?

71 Days Till Boot Camp
Sorry I haven’t posted my workouts for the last few days.
I did an assortment of calisthenics and running.
llyodk
Believe me I don’t assume anything about boot camp other than it is hard and I am ready to meet the challenege.
I like to hear things about it but I’m not one of those guys who tries to plan it all out in his mind.
I had the opportunity to get instructed by some Drill Instructors on Thurs night. I haven’t ever been yelled at like that so it was a new experience. I really enjoyed the opportunity alot and I can’t wait till it’s for real.
I’m leaving for Florida for a few days so I won’t be posting probably till Sat. While I’m down there I’m going to continue running and doing calisthenics.

64 Days Till Boot Camp
Just got home from staying in Florida for a week.
I had fun and I’m ready to get back to the grind tomorrow.
you and me both
Hey good luck with this man I’m not in the military but have the utmost respect for those who do serve, keep up the good work!
18 Load
I appreciate it man.
I hope to get some good training in during these last two months and give becoming a Marine everything I got.

Good times.

63 Days Till Boot Camp
Pullups 15 10 8 5 5
Situps/Back Extensions 20 20 20
Squat 135x30
Dips 15 15 15
Ran 3 Miles
I was in the army for five years and I have never ran over 10kms who ever is posting 30mile runs and stuff are you sure you were in the military or a jogging club.
Nice work though you are much fitter than I was before I joined up, I do agree with the less you know the better. The know it alls at basic get hammered unless they keep their mouth shut which often they don’t
One tip from me and it’s something I did before my enlistment date was walking with a pack on I just used a school bag as I was only 17 when I joined up and started off with one brick then put a few in as I got stronger. Start with 2kms and build up to long distances
jzzz
I appreciate you reading and posting on my log.
I can see the know-it-alls getting theirs early on in Boot Camp. Fortunately I’m the quiet type so I’ll just keep my mouth shut.
As far as my physical condition, I don’t think I’m any where near ready. I know I’m making progress but I feel disappointed because I know I should be further along by now.
It’s good to hear about only running 10kms. I;ve heard similar things about the Marine Corps. I don’t mind running but in no way am I built for it.
That actually leads me into a question.
How have any of you active duty or vets dealt with trying to build muscle and strength with all the running and unusual schedules?
Were you able to build a significant amount of muscle with all the running? Did you find a happy medium between running prowess and strength in the weight room?
Any thoughts or advice on this would be much appreciated.
As far as llyodk talking about 30 mile runs I assume he is talking about a hump or ruck march.

61 Days Till Boot Camp
Poolee PT
Ran 3 Miles with sprints and crunches dispersed through out.
5 Rounds of:
15 Lunges
10 Ball Slams
10 KB Swings
5 Pullups
Coming off spring break this SUCKED. I didn’t stop and kept going. It blows my mind how some Poolees can just quit and walk.
I believe you will be losing a lot of muscle during boot-camp. With less then 3 months I think you should really focus on the cardio-vascular aspect and work more on muscle retention along with endurance and being able to set a good pace for your running, pullups, crunches, pushups.
I don’t mean to quit weight-training but that should supplement the things you will need to dominate the physical aspect.
Just my… quasi-view after seeing your commentary on your progress.
I think you should make it a point to hit your target #'s within the next 30-40 days so the last 20 days you can just work on refining and maybe grab 2-3 days of rest then finish off strong with 14 or so days of normal training.
Fastest way your going to do this is drop body-fat while keeping your lifts up or getting even stronger.
kinein
Sorry for the miss communication. As far as the strength and muscle building goes I was really just wanted to know for when I’m in the fleet.
I haven’t had a real weight training session in at least a month.
I agree with your pre-ship work up. I was planning on really hitting it hard and having at least a layoff week with some light training right before I go.
I hope to build a solid cardio and BW endurance base so that once I’m in the fleet I can try to get back to weight training. I don’t know how it will all work out in the grand scheme of things with all the running, field training, deployments etc. I just hope to find some balance between the Military fitness essentials and strength training.
and as for posting on your log, by writing this i have posted more than you have this week. suck on that!
Yeah I have to write a major update.
I’ll do that later tonight.

50 Days Till Boot Camp
To be honest I had a major motivation lapse for the last few weeks.
There is no excuse I just let myself get wrapped up in some bullshit which lead into inactivity for several days.
The two greatest pains in life are discipline and regret. You can have alot of one or alot of another. It is your choice.
Ran 2 Miles

I got a pair of Vibram Five Fingers and my lower legs were on fire after running this.
