My Gym Employs Fatties

They must employ people that put their feet up on the bench while benching… regardless of the body composition.

Because we all know that putting your feet up on the bench whilst benching is the right way to bench.

LOL

I switched gyms a few months back. The place I belong to now is run by a Pro BBer. It’s a little place, but crammed full of equipment and a lot of fucking strong guys (and a few women!), there for serious training.

It’s very motivating. Just this morning I realised again how lucky I am!

American University, in DC. (Our basketball team just got raped by Tennessee.)

Damn you Kurt! I put my knees up when I’m benching.

I always have though, until I read the article about how it’s not helping.

It doesn’t shock me that they hire out of shape people, (as some have said, they probably have to) but I can’t understand why people who are out of shape want to work at a gym in the first place.

So they feel like they are doing shit by saying they work in a gym, although, they still sit on their ass all day long.

Yeah…Why would you want the public to ridcule you?

“Hey so where do you work?”

“In a gym!”

mental thought of question asker: Wow, what a lardass. Must not be a successful gym at all

I guess if you really don’t care what other people think of you, you’d rationalize being a lard ass and working in a gym as being “normal” or “okay”.

Maybe those are the people who applied for the job and the gym is afraid they are going to get sued if they deny them employment based on their weight. I understand what you are saying but it’s not like they can fire them if they are doing there job up to the standard required to keep the job.
There are certain situations where you are allowed to ‘discriminate’. The law isn’t compeletely retarded [just most of the way]. Courts have recognized that if a quality significantly impairs someone’s ability to do their job, it’s not illegal discrimination to not hire or to fire them. There’s no obligation to have fat models, fat trainers, or bus drivers with failing eyesight.

my gym has all attractive high school girls working the front desk, and the trainers are all pretty big and a few deal steroids.

too bad 2/3 of the gym is ellipticals and bikes, and there’s only two squat racks (no cages) and no PLing area.

but, as stated in the SRC thread…there’s always a squat rack open when i need it because no one squats.

I haven’t been able to wrap my mind around something: Why a business marketing “health” and the concept of “looking healthy” employs a staff of fatties. Does it not make sense to anybody else? It’s irony in every sense of the word, IMO. At my particular gym, the daycare center (yeah there’s a day-care room) is run by a woman who is blatantly obese. The front desk secretary is also fat, but not entirely obese. She’s sporting a spare tire, and is making no concerted effort to lose those “turkey galraps” she’s got for triceps. The cleaning staff are also fat, from what I’ve noticed.

So my question is: If you were the manager/Human Resources Manager, would you hire somebody who looks like they’re one Twinkie away from wearing a Mu-Mu to work in a “fitness” center?
please. The lead “physical instructor” in my gym has never been seen to touch a weight once and is at least 50 pounds overweight- doesn’t look too big either

I work at a gym and I could care less what the rest of the staff looks like. At one point I was the only person on staff who worked out at all. I see all the applicants and it would be to hard to not hire someone because they are not “fit” (Although I’m all for only hiring fit individuals). It’s hard to find a good employee for 9 or 10 bucks an hour, so if a good one comes in and they don’t necessarily look the part, that’s fine. I’ll take an un-fit 23 year old with some work experience over an in shape kid right out of high school who is going to ask for every friday night off, show up high/hungover everyday and not do any work.

Also, I definately think trainers need to look the part. I’m not going to take golf lessons from a guy who’s read a ton of golf books but never played, so why would I take exercise instruction from someone who can’t follow their own advice.

The head trainer at my gym is a total fat ass, sits behind his desk, and glories in the one picture he has of himself 20 years ago when he competed in a bb contest.

We had 2 male trainers that were incredibaly hottt! They were hardcore about their clients training and their own bodies. Great size on these guys. If they weren’t training clients they were lifting massive amounts of weights with the rest of us in the weight room. Really great guys. They both recently quit.

The rest of the trainers just look thin. Compared to the members who are “cows” & “fatties”, sure they look good. But knowing what real muscles look like these people are total jokes! They’re just a group of thin people who wear a TRAINER shirt because they’re too fucking lazy to get a real job.

The problem is simple math. A gym like the local YMCA in my city probably has over 100 employees. Where would they find 100 fit people to work there. Not only that but even if they could they would have to start paying more money for employees as not all fit people would be willing to work there because they are probably making more elsewhere.

I hate to bring this topic up, but it popped in mind. Some of the best and brightest in the fitness industry aren’t jacked individuals. One of them writes for this site, Mike Boyle.

so don’t just assume because someone isn’t huge that they don’t know what they’re doing. Everyone has their own goals and means of achieving them.

Hell, right now I’m trying to put on weight to get rid of such the stigma you gave (doubt that sentence makes sense, lol but oh well). and it’s costing me about $150/week in groceries and close to $300/month in supplements, I’m starting to wonder at what point to I say “fuck it, fuck people who think all trainers should be huge” and put my money towards paying off the rest of my car loan and student loans.

Real muscles do not have to be huge. If you saw a few of the trainers you’d know what Im talking about. Skinny fat!

That ploy got me a wife.

I guess the Bally Total Fitness I use isn’t so bad. Most of the “trainers” (Bally’s does not require certification to be a “trainer” at their facilities) are what I would consider “fit”, but I sure wouldn’t be asking any of them for advice on strength training or bulking.

It’s true, I did want to train with you so I could picture you nekkid. Lucky for me, it was even better than I imagined!
