My First Cut

Once a week in the morning on an empty stomach after using the bathroom.

Sorry to Hyjack.

Walkway/jskrabac whats with the Primrose oil? Seen both of you mention it now.

No worries I was actually curious about that as well

That was my guess when you said you were dropping then all of a sudden up a pound. What I’ve been doing (I think Stu suggested this) is weigh myself every day at the same time. Then add up your numbers for the week and divide by 7 to come up with an average weight.

Doing it once a week can throw you off. For example, if I would have gone by the my weight on Wednesday from last week and Wednesday from the week before it would show that I had gained 1.5 pounds. However, averaging my weight for the entire week shows I was actually down just over a pound. We don’t lose weight in a linear fashion. We have blips up and down throughout the week. If you happen to weigh yourself on one of those blips it can cause you to overreact and make unnecessary changes to your diet.

Ah I see. I might consider doing that. I have just been in the habit of once a week for the past year and a half so I didn’t even think of another alternative. I know I prlly didn’t actually gain a pound and this is prlly just a fluctuation like you said. But that being said should I consider lowering my calorie intake this week? I mean even if I didn’t gain an lb is it possible I could have already stalled with the current calorie intake? Thanks

That’s the point I’m getting at. IMO, it’s difficult to tell if you’ve stalled if you’re only weighing once a week. If you weigh yourself every day not only can you ascertain an average but you can see what your low weight of the week was which can be helpful as well.

If you’re not doing a competition I would be more conservative with your calorie adjustments. Dropping 500 cals p/day at a time is a big jump. That’s not bad to start out with at the beginning of a cut but once I’m into it I prefer to adjust around 100 per day and gauge my reaction because my main concern is holding on to the muscle I added.

It’s hard to be patient. Sometimes I’ll look at the scale day after day and think, “Damn, still not dropping much.” Then I have to remind myself that my goal is to drop 1-1.5 pounds per WEEK.

i use primrose oil because it helps with my menstrual pain

jk, anti-inflammatory, GLA, etc.

The evening primrose oil I buy here is actually labelled for women only, fucking ridiculous.

You took a 3 to 2 ratio of fish oil to primrose oil with shelby right?

when i was dieting yes, now i just grab a handful of fish oil and toss it down the hatch… ends up being around 5-8g worth of EFA’s and take 2.6g primrose

I am not doing a competition and my main goal is strength so I will take your advice with the small calorie reductions.

why is your main goal strength?

Yeah, this is a confusing point.

My main goal is strength because I would like to do a powerlifting competition at some point. I have respect for both bodybuilding and powerlifting, yet I honestly am not sure if I would want to compete in bodybuilding even if I had the chance. I enjoy the training style though. Also even if I were to want to compete, I would want to develop a high level of strength first.

Honestly I’m still not sure which path I would take, if either. But I strongly believe in developing strength first

I guess I still just want to be as big and strong as possible. And I believe that improving strength is the best step towards this goal before I eventually decide what I truly want

i see.

i used to feel a similar way… but after a distinct lack of gratification i decided to go for “looking good”…

people (girls especially) just dont understand strength… AT ALL… unless they are really into training themselves (which most people aren’t)

i could move a considerable amount of weight in each lift, but all that people saw (girls especially) was a “fat wide guy with big boobs and forearms”…

i actually had a girl ask me, “if you’re so big and strong, why can’t i see your abs?”

that was basically the turning point lmao… i switched from primarily lifting for strength to primarily lifting for looks… i didnt even have to get injured first

I respect that, and I respect that you are straight forward with it as well. I’ve had people say something along the lines of the ab statement to me as well. I used to try and explain and it made me so frustrated. Now I just smile and let it go. In my opinion strength is never gonna get me far with girls or looking good, but that’s not why I do it. That’s why I started but I fell in love with the progression and training methods of training for strength but at the same time the muscular development of a bodybuilding approach. So I think for now I’m gonna take them both as far as I can and then eventually branch off into one. At this moment it sure seems like it will be a strength based approach. I do want to look good, I’m not afraid to admit that, but I guess it just depends on my own personal goals. I try not to let others opinions of me affect my goals although admittedly it can be difficult sometimes. Nothing is more discouraging then people comparing you to some skinny kid with abs and thinking that you know nothing compared to him. I’m not putting you in that category obviously, just venting hsha.

Walk away- whorls you suggest another calorie drop this week or to ride it out one more?

LOL i know exactly what you mean about the “people comparing you to some skinny kid with abs and thinking that you know nothing compared to him.” oh god that hit me right in the feels!

as for a caloric reduction, the slower you “cut” (as it were) the less muscle you will lose… so keep that in mind. I wish i had taken longer with shelby because it would have been WAY easier and i wouldnt have lost so much muscle…

Thanks man. Yeah I guess I’ll take it really slow. I have no real deadline and once summer rolls around I’m gonna have all I can do to not lose more weight that I don’t want to. I work on a farm. I’m worried I’m gonna hit my goal weight than summer will come and ill lose like 10 more lbs and ill be pissed. I guess I’ll figure that out when I get there
