Two weeks ago I started 5x5 training, Massive Eating (4753 cal/day), 70 Androsol in the morning and 70 Nandrosol in the evening. Before this cycle, I was doing higher volume (GVT type) training. Muscle soreness use to begin approx 24 hrs after a workout and and take an additional 48 hrs to disappear completely . These days, the onset of soreness is taking 12 hrs and disappears about 24 hrs after that. Could this be an indication of improved recovery due to supplementation and increased calories? Can I comfortably shorten my training cycle from 6-7 days to 5 based on this? After a particular muscle group has not been sore for 3-4 days I start to feel like I’m neglecting it and I want to work it again.
Try one set to failure.
It could be from the improved recovery or from the change in program. The 5 X 5 involves the neural system more and is typically not as damaging to the muscular system as the 10 X 10 so this could be why you’re feeling less DOMS. You’re probably right about shortening the length of time between workouts. The better your work capacity the quicker your recovery and the more often you can train. Also the better shape you are in the quicker you’ll feel the soreness and the quicker it disappears.
