Sometimes when I turn on my computer, I get an error message that says “Change STACKS in CONFIG.SYS.” What does that mean? I’m pretty computer-stupid. Thanks
What version of windows are you running. I would suggest doing a search for “config.sys” and editing it. There should be a line in there that says something like
STACKS=50
Try uping whatever the number is by 50%, but keep it a multiple of 10. Let me know if this helps.
It means you should buy a Mac.
It means that windows is still DOS in its bones. But stay with it. As all real code monkeys know, Macs are gay. Very, very gay. Who else would make a notebook that looks like a woman’s compact / seashell / bathroom soapdish? Not that there is anything wrong with that. If you’re gay.
I was just DYING to post that here! LOL! Followed by a “YUP!”
It’s too generic to say. Chances are you just [un]installed new [hard/soft]ware that caused this message to appear.
Revert back to your old settings.
Do a search online for that product you [un]installed to see if there is a patch.
IF not you can always ‘format c:’ =)
They are still gay. Even t-vix are wrong sometimes, although they are not gay. Just their gay-ass Macs are gay. And lame.
Load Linux on your system. That should make the error message go away.
Now Huck, I have a Mac and a PC sitting right next to each other… so am I half gay??? grin
I have a PC to write code, since my main programming language does not work on the Mac platform. I do everything else on the Mac though, including hundreds of hours of Photoshop work and all of my email.
Macs RULE!!!
*laugh*
"even T-vix are wrong sometimes’??? What ever does that mean??? Huck, I believe you are married? Don’t you know by now that women are always right? snicker
I began working on a Apple computer back in 1986 while I worked for a Graphic Designer. In 1987 I began working on PCs’ (DOS). Every PC I have ever worked with has had “issues” (including a brand new Dell computer I had at my last company). My dojo had several employees of Intel there and they all had a Mac. It was kinda “hush, hush” for them I won’t even get into the computer virus thing and how the majority of virus’ target PCs’ but Macs stay pretty much virus-free. I’m sure Michelle knows what I’m talking about.
It means you have an old, piece of shit computer if it still utilizes a config.sys file. Go to Start → Run. In the run line type in “sysedit” and then hit ok. Six windows should pop up with in one bigger window. In there will be the config.sys file. Determine if the “Stacks=” line is there in the first place, then change the entry to “STACKS=90” and reboot. If that does not solve you problem then use Find → Files or Folders and search for config.sys. then rename it to config.old. Unless you are using Windows 3.1 you do not need the file anyway…Actually, I would do that first. Why use a fucking file you don’t need?
Then go out and get yourself the latest Sparc Station with a windows Card and you will never suffer again.
The power of linux compels you.
There’s no such thing as a linux virus.
(Well, there was a cross-platform virus a few months ago, but you had to be really, really, really dumb to end up being infected by it).
Imac = turd burgular
Never said you were gay. Just your gay Mac. With luck, the manliness of your PC will convert your pansy computer. BTW, my webmaster uses a mac, and you know him. I rest my case.
Gay ass Macs are for artsy fartsy types. No real bodybuilder would use a Mac. Christopher Lowell uses a Mac.
You can download Mandrake 8.2 from mandrakelinux.com I recommend it most for beginner home users. You better have a damn good reason (like high-end graphics) to use a Mac, other than that, Macs are too damn easy and user friendly.
I like the new macs…Mac OS 10.1 is base on FreeBSD…I think that puts it light years ahead of windows because you now have a very robust command line to work with. I wish the Macs good luck, though they will never unseat bill gates.

We all know that MACs and PCs are awful machines (MACs being the lesser of the evil). Unix is the best operating system. So simple, yet so powerful. Unix is the squat of operating systems.
