Y’know, I think the only problem I have with this discussion is the idea that the opinions of those without children are being deemed completely, totally, and utterly valueless by those with children.
ZEB, may I ask how old your children are? You speak of these surveys that seem to be in the teen demographic; do you have children that are in the age range studied?
If not, I guess I have to discount all of your posts that mention that study, as it seems to be the cool thing to do after reading this thread.

Weak. I know how to use condoms and as a result, I don’t have kids as of yet. That works out great for me because I would rather be well established before raising a family as opposed to the action of many guys that I know of ending up with 3 and 4 kids from 3 and 4 different mothers all begging for child support. Shit, the fact that I don’t have kids should speak volumes about my maturity and priorities.
Right on! I’m going to save this quote, as I think a few of my friends need to see it.

You do realize that he is an M.D., right? As in physician, doctor of medicine, 4 years of college, 4 years of med school, 1 year internship, 2 years residency.
I’m glad you’re being nice about it. But, someone has got to tell 'em how it is. I’m going to be that someone.
I’m just giving the fools on this thread exactly what I needed when I was 18 years old.
You need to go back a few years…14-18 years old…remember all the hot chicks we would post in our bedrooms…like Samantha Fox etc…(80’s)?
We would have put naked chicks up if our parents let us.
This is the mentality a lot of the T-kids have around here, so we can’t be too hard on the little tykes. We were once that way…at least I was up till around 20-23.
This is the internet so these guys can put up naked pics without mommy or daddy knowing.
Even when I was young and dumb, I would have never put an avatar up like that, and if an adult with kids asked me to take it down, I would have. As a teen, I still had enough respect to realize that I have no right to act as a negative influence to other people’s young children.
Rockscar, I believe that too many of the kids on this website have missed out on one of the most important things I got as a child…severe beatings with the belt.
That might be the only time anyone has ever seriously used that term to relate to me…at least in the last 15 years. Maybe I could make that a nickname like “Tiny”.

That might be the worse case of twisted logic since the last time prof posted!
Legitimate tatistics which demonstrate that there is a serious problem regarding teens, the media and sex have nothing to do with how many children I have or their ages.
Whereas, someones off the cuff opinion regarding teen sex and the media can indeed be flawed if they have zero experience of their own!

I didn’t make mention of his formal education or his occupation. For all I know he is unemployed and fighting 35 malpractice lawsuits.
What my statement was really saying is that ProfessorX seems to have too much time on his hands as evidenced by his liberal bombardment on this website.
I am glad I don’t go to ProfessorX’s church…they’d probably try to stone me (in 2 different ways).
To get back on topic. I too am sorry for past posts that may have been taken as boorish. I have resolved this year tobe more positive. I will admit that with some of the rants I have seen recently it has been hard, but I remember that no one cares what I think anyway. So I just enjoy and shake my head and delight in new deadlifting articles.
Especially apologies to Vroom - I have been guilty of “playing just to play.” It was little of me and I apologize. I enjoy some of your posts and your outlook. I think we would probably have a good time if we we’re ever to meet.
ProfX - I think you made a similar resolution. Lately you are a lot more mellow. I have seen your pics and won’t be harassing you any more. I choose life.
Now back to our regularly scheduled avatar debate.
IMO - She’s hot. I would like to encourage nakedness from her whenever possible. I would have her image burned on my retinas if I could.
I guess your right to show some girls naked butt trumps my desire to teach my daughter about lifting and fitness, at least on T-Nation.
If you are trying to teach your kid about lifting and fitness, what the heck are you doing on the threads? The vast majority of informational stuff is posted by the cite’s regular contributors, who last time I checked didn’t have any ass for avitars. If you are teaching your child about tayloring exercise and nutritional regemines to one’s specific needs, as is often what is discussed in the threads, she’s probably too young to understand, that is unless she’s a midget who can still sit on your lap.

Yea, that’s what he says he has.

If you want to know my full title and specialty, all you have to do is pm me. Why you think anyone would need to lie about what they do is beyond me, but I don’t give out specifics on the open forum. Yes, I do keep it vague for a reason.

Just to make sure I have this straight…
You’re saying that a naked woman is a negative influence on children?
That might be the only time anyone has ever seriously used that term to relate to me…at least in the last 15 years. Maybe I could make that a nickname like “Tiny”.
That’s cool dude. I will now refer to you as Squirt.
1.) No I don’t have your study but the whole point of that out of context idea was that with any type of data, and any background in statistical analysis you can make the data say what you want. Also, the wording of the questions can also be quiete vague at times (trust me I participated in surveys) which leads to results that can be mixed. side bar this may not have happened in your study but how will we ever know?*
2.) No I won’t change your views. No I don’t think most tv shows are blatantly sexual. I’ll tell you what many are in my mind. Blatant lies. Where on earth and when growing up did people ever live like those in the OC or Laguna Beach? Mercedes at 16, Beamers at 18 etc? It gives a false sense of reality to impressionable people growing up. I think that is indeed troubling. Something that the glossy tv shows don’t portray, ever. Talk about something that is troubling. People can deal with nudity etc, but growing up with a false reality as to what is achievable? That plagues society today more than ever.
3.) You mentioned that people complain to each other. Why? Common sense says that since the market is money driven you call the regulatory agency and put your complaint in. That would do more good than complaining to Betty next door that MTV cribs had too much sex on it. Fo shizzle.
4.) I agree with a previous poster neither side is invalid. Both sides are right. This is true.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I think that we all have a little too much time on our hands if we are posting on here. LOL!
Thanks for the compliment for the Avatar (or sarcasm, hard to tell on here ). He was one of my favorite comic book characters.

People lie all the time, Squirt.
Your credibility (or lack thereof) comes from the things you say, not the claims you make.

With a background in statistical and research methodology it becomes far easier to spot the instances where a study’s findings have been manipulated as you propose. The problem is that often when such instances are identified this news is far less circulated than was the faulty original study.

No sarcasm. The Black Panther wasn’t it? I thought it was a good choice.
