Muay Thai Follow Up

backinaction,

the classes are great. classes are on mon and wed at 7pm and then sat at 11am. they run around 1.5hrs. Mr.Medina teaches a variety of things in each class. like one day all we will work on are basics and then the next class we will work on more specific kicks/punches/knees and then the next class we might just spar the entire time. Mr.Medina really knows how to break down the moves and show you how a lot of people do the move(s) wrong. it is nice b/c we don’t just go in there and beat on the bag or the pads all the time. you should really check it out sometime. the first class is free.

Oh, so you’re a F.I.B. huh?

Just kidding. We have been told our clsses are alot differnet then Rufus’, not to say one is better, just different. A student that trained at both places for a while said our classes were, like said above, less focused on always hitting pads and more technical. But, believe me, we do have some brutally hard classes with short rest periods between rounds. Last night was a killer.

If you’re interested I can PM you directions. Navigating Waukesha can be a little tough, and since you’re from IL… 'nuff said.

Haha, I definately do have FIB written all over me! (at least with my driving ability, you know what I’m talking about)

That school does sound cool (sparing would be fun to get into). I just have to get a lot better before I start planning school visits.

I’ll definately keep that school in mind, if I’m ever heading that way I’ll check it out.

thanks!

I’m very interested in combat sports and I am looking to put some of my new meat to good use. I am in central IL during the school year and chicago during the summers, do any of you guys have recommendations for good training facilities around here?
Thanks in advance

Most places you will find in chicago are pretty expensive. I was planning on going to straightblast gym after college (I believe its in palatine, might be wrong), but I think it might have closed down.

There is pugs boxing gym in arlington heights. If you want to try some grabbling, I recommend judo. You can usually take it at a local community college (I took it at harper). The nice thing is that it’s cheap because its through the college. Plus, you won’t find little kids running all over the place.

no problem.hope you find a place that suits your needs.

Hey Havoc,

I just got back from the gym and talked to duke. He said he remembered you from the rave and that you were a good guy. I found something cool today, your name is on a poster in the gym. I think the fight was september 29th, 2001 at the rave. You fought a marine, huh? Sounds like an easy opponent. haha, awesome.

thats when i fought “bam bam”.i was to fight steve kirtly(i think that was his name)but he broke his ankle or something,so i fought bryce instead.now i don’t know what kirtly has done if anything but bryce has gone on to be somewhat successful and even ranked in at least one organization.so in this case i think the marine would have been an easier fight.just my luck.i ate alot of knees that night, and a nice high kick.

duke is a good dude.i told you duke took me out to dinner, but that was because of the person i was with.him and duke were tight at the time, still might be.i was just another fighter.but after my fight, and dukes fight,he came up and spoke to me out of the blue.my nose had red lines all over it from a few uppercuts and one unintentional knee.knees to the body only in the amatuers but i tried to pull out of the clinch with my head to low and got one in the snout,my fault.anyways,i’m standing there watching the fights and someone comes up to me,put their hand over my eyes and says close your eyes.this cold spray hits my nose and i open my eyes and it’s duke.he starts rubbing this shit into my nose and talking to me.there was no reason, other than being a good person,he had to do this.
and that spray stuff,i think it had japanese or thai writing on it.i didn’t see it real good, but it took almost all of the red creases off my nose.i limped for 2 days after that fight but at least i didn’t look as bad as i could have thanks to duke.i’m glad he remembers me.it certainly wasn’t because of my stellar display of fisticuffs that night.

What’s up Kirk? This is Matt Nielsen fom the old AX. Whats new?

hey old buddy.how are you.
i’m doing all right.hope everything’ good for you and the mrs.'.
i just got back online recently.i’ve been looking for you on ax.aren’t you going anymore?

are you still training and did you fight in the wka event you were talking about?

i’ve been lifting, doing some westside programs.trying to get back into the kickboxing but it’s tough.time restraints.

i wish spike would pick up superleague,or k-1 max.so much of these ufc matches are involving stand up,and ppl are diggin it.they’d go wild over superleague.

hope to hear from you.

lol, Brian banned me from the AX, which is fine with me. I post at mma.tv kickboxing forum as Ryukyu Damashi now.

I didn’t fight in the WKA’s I tore my hamstring doing sprints and it took a long time to heal.

I’m doing more Crossfit type workouts now. I don’t lift all that heavy anymore, well compared to what I was doing before.

I have a kid fighting in NYC next weekend. His first fight!

lol. what did you do to get banned?what are crossfit workouts?

Brian is a Vegan nut and I grew up hunting. He freaked out when I posted about killing and eating animals. boo f’n hoo. The ax sucks now anyways.

Kirk, I emailed you the info about Crossfit.
