I have squatted from day 1, and I attribute barbell back squats to 90% of my thigh size. The form wasn’t very pretty in the beginning, but I got some pointers online and did my best, and definitely went below parallel.

I still remember being in my parents garage, being ecstatic at the thought of squatting 115lbs for the first time, because it was almost my bodyweight.

When eeu and I started lifting together I definitely forced the same squat mentality onto him lol and the results are pretty clear when you look at his avatar. There is nothing we have done more of, or done more consistently, than back squats.

I also feel that this needs to be said: You do not need to squat a ton of weight in order to build the thighs. I am no powerlifter by any means, in fact the most I have ever squatted is only 365lbs.

In a recent interview, Matt Kroc (a world-class powerlifter that has squatted over 1000lbs in competition) admitted that his legs were his weakest point going into bodybuilding… not just his quads either, his entire thighs.

In terms of growth, there is a world of difference between (1) sitting way back, with a wide stance, shins perpendicular to the floor, barely hitting parallel, heaving as much weight as possible from point A to point B… and (2) keeping your torso closer to vertical, squatting down below parallel under control, feet shoulder width, feeling the stretch and contraction of the thighs, repping out to the point that you feel like puking (I have numerous times).

Second to squats, for me, has been lying leg curls and romanian deadlifts. At my best I repped out with 365 on RDL’s, but I don’t know how many or how long ago that was (haven’t done them lately). Conventional deadlifts have always been awkward for me (pulled 4 plates about a year ago, never really cared to push this much), and I feel that better exercises can be done for the back and hamstrings.

Calves have always been a weak point for me, because for years I didn’t train them at all, and even now I must admit that I’m not consistent with them. Sort of hard to get excited about training them I guess lol.

This clip pretty much sums up my thoughts on squatting in bodybuilding:

What do you think about the extremely low volume training that seems to be oh so popular today?

Give me an example.

I have never trained with a very high amount of “volume”, although I also happen to think this modern concept of managing “volume/intensity” is a huge steaming pile of bullshit. The human body is not a machine.

But give me an example of a program that you think is extremely low volume, and I’ll tell you what I think about it.

I didn’t realize you still posted here. Thanks for the compliment.

When I was just starting out, I read every post that you, Professor X, and Amsterdam Animal wrote on this website.

Nice underwear queer

Congrats on your progress and your thread. You always post inteligently.

Now having said all that… I’m really gonna miss the bald ripped chimp avatar.

On a side note… what was the deal with Tribunal Dude? I remember the last i saw him he was introducing you as his disiple or something as he would dig up secret info on troll posters and post it online. Did he get banned?

Thanks for the compliment, but I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Dang…I blushed a little

Still here, mostly reading. Too many posts end in a pissing match, as you well know.

For the record, I do think you deserve a thread

Keep doing what you are doing. Many a skinny beginner can learn a great deal from what you write down. You walked the walk.

All the best,

Marc

Ok so… understandably I mixed you up with Mr. Purple! Not in everything but from that thread. What a mess that thread was. Dankid got owned.

A well deserved thread, I respect what you and bonez do in the beginner’s section. And it looks like you put your knowledge to good use.

And why the fuck do some people hate countingbeans?

DC training, of any other training routine where a muscle only gets 1 or 2 exercises.

cuz he’s a soulless ginger with 4 toes on each foot and 6 fingers on each hand.

And btw the only reason I didn’t include Bonez in this thread is because I believe he deserves a how do you train thread of his own.

BONEZ is easily my least favorite poster on this site. Nothing annoys me more than pictures of guys wearing shirts that say Testosterone and a skull mask.

As much as I’d love to see this, I feel the way he trains may not suit everyone. But his knowledge is amazing and the accurate, succinct advice in either the BB or Beginner sub forum really hits the root of the problem.

This has to be a joke post. Because I can’t imagine a situation where anyone would consider a picture standing just wearing a pair of tighty whities.

It was. But yeah, if I see any pictures of someone wearing tighty whities, I’ll let u know.
