Mr Olympia 2019

This is where I struggle with professional bodybuilding. I don’t think Hadi can bring his waist in much tighter due to body structure.

Agreed, not his fault, but genetics clearly play a huge role in top level bodybuilding. The competition isn’t who did the best with the genetics they were given, but who has the best overall musculature. Same way nothing Roelly can do about how high his Lat insertions are. It ruins his back and I think he could probably have an Olympia or two if it wasn’t the case.

Surprised nobody here is talking about this guy. I just never seen a guy with such a small waist and wide shoulders and that huge arms. Usually guys with this kind of structure (tall + wide clavicles and small hips) like me have smaller arms forearms and calves, but his arms are probably the biggest in the stage right now even when he needs like 20 lbs more muscle to be a top 3! such a freaky proportions Sergio Oliva like. He is the future

Kind of looks like a cross between Lee Haney and Shawn Ray. Will definitely be a threat when he adds more size.

I was thinking Mike Christian and Vince Taylor. Bit I see Lee and Shawn too.

Mike Christian! Now there’s a name you don;t hear brought up very often!

Sat next to him last year at a Casino where @BrickHead and I were getting a seriously late night bite to eat after the Olympia. The guy look pretty damn happy n healthy considering how long ago he was onstage.

For any youngins reading along who don’t know the name, google him! He was a tank back in the days of Haney!

Is that your way of saying I’m old. :joy:

Maybe a way of saying WE’RE old… -lol

Lol the saddest thing is, as I get older I don’t think many things are getting better with this sport. I just keep looking at all the pics and vids from the last 80’s and 90’s and thinking why can’t the top pros look like this anymore.

That was awesome! He was from the era in which the top five now, wouldn’t place, I believe (not a diss)!

1987 was the year.
Gaspari, Labrada, Haney, Christian, de May.
de May tore his pec after that.

I often dream of being born in ‘69 rather than 79.

Yeah, and as good as he was it still wasn’t enough to win the Olympia. The 80-90’s really were a crazy time for the sport.

question…when did the leg size start increasing so much? like proportionally judges wanting bigger legs? 80s?

i know he didnt have good symmetry but markus ruhl was always one of my favorites. looked like the “thing” off fantastic 4 lol

Maybe after Dorian won the Olympia? I’m not sure.

I was at this show, NOC 2002, before it became NY Pro.

At the 1987 Mr O, Chris Dickerson (Mr O 1982) was a commentator and obviously a Mike Christain fan but he said that the difference in Mike and Lee Haney was that Lee had a lot better legs. .

You don’t see that granite-hard look anymore. Maybe it’s insulin or the way modern bodybuilders train or something.

No we don’t. And that’s an admitted complaint of mine. I think it’s poor dieting and too many drugs. I don’t want to sound like some wannabe insider (considering i’m Not an insider or a wannabe) but I know enough to realize that some current competitors are totally whacked out.
