Santa Barbara - if you’re rich and don’t know what else to do with your life.
L.A. - if you are incredibly low on self-esteem but look great, drive a car you cannot afford, and go tanning 5-6 times a week.
San Diego - if you like sunshine and lots of Mexicans bolting through your backyard yelling “LA MIGRA!!!”

Why’d you leave America and go to a place run by and for libs? Aren’t people fleeing the nanny-state and moving to surrounding American states? You DO know, I hope, that when all the productive people flee from somewhere, there’ll be no one around to fund your welfare check.
You come off as such a douche, HH. I hope for your sake you’re under 20 years old. That way, you’ll someday realize you’re a societal detriment for the same reasons the nutty Far-Lefters in SF are annoying: You think you’ve got it all figured out, and that anyone who isn’t on board with your view of how things should be is either too dumb to grasp what you grasp or is flat-out evil.
I’m a conservative living in the belly of the beast: San Francisco. And instead of moving out because I’m outnumbered (like a pussy like you would recommend), I end up IGNORING the Code Pink, Critical Mass, etc. jackasses who (like you) perefer fingerpointing and vague generalizations to civilized discussion and debate. Further, I actually ENJOY and INDULGE in civilized debate with other people – all hard-working PROFESSIONALS – who I occasionally (GOD FORBID!) don’t agree with on certain issues.

Thank you. I couldn’t have put it better. The funny thing is I’m just about to turn 20 and I’m more mature than this guy. He’s probably just bored with himself, so he goes online and tries to put people down. Thank god we live in California where there’s always something no more than an hour away to do!

Nah, I’m simply fascinated that a loser who drops out of law school seems drawn to go home to mommy and daddy in Cali, and got such a warm welcome from all the Cali folk on here. Birds of a feather?
In case some of you haven’t figured it out, T-Nation is for MEN and VIXENS, not dropouts and metrosexuals.
It’s even easier than sending in 25 cents. Sent out my resume, for free, to one company and I’ve already been offered an interview. ![]()
I’ll keep you updated on my future success. ![]()
Thanks for the encouragement HH, hope you like smiley faces. ![]()
I can speak on this. I was born and raised in San Diego. Loved it, but wanted to broaden my horizons in college. Went to undergrad in Texas. It was okay. Went to law school in Nebraska. People here are awesome and it is a great state, but the winter is too fucking long and cold and dreary. Plus, I miss my family. So I am moving back to San Diego after I finish this year of work.
In my opinion, San Diego is the place to be. It is less expensive than the Bay Area and far better than Los Angeles, which is one giant piece of crowded pavement. Really. Los Angeles County is paved over from one end to the other. Disgusting.
Headhunter might be surprised to learn that San Diego is actually quite conservative, relatively speaking. It consistently votes Republican. It’s just too bad that the rest of the state spoils things. When people think of super-whacked-out-liberal California, they are mainly thinking of Hollywood and Berkeley, not San Diego.
Santa Barbara is awesome also, except that you have to get used to the beach being to the south rather than to the west.

For being a vet on this site you sure are posting a lot of immature stuff. I don’t think he’s going home to mommy and daddy. He never said he dropped out of law school because it was too tough. You are just assuming. I’m young and he sounds young too. We can pretty much do anything we want. Maybe he finally decided that law school, being a lawyer, etc wasnt for him. Maybe he realized its not something he wanted to do or that it’s not something that he thought it was. He asked about California in the “Get a life (off topic)” section. As somebody who lives in CA why not sit here and B.S. with him about California. The forum we are in is all about B.S. anyways. I’m sure the OP didn’t want this to turn into a pissing match about why California is good or bad or why the people here are viewed as laid back beach going pot heads.

Anyways. You will love California, if you can afford it. My brother and his wife live in Mission Viejo, and they are dealing with incredibly high prices for everything. They are considering moving to Colorado.
GOD I miss Anaheim. I really do. Even the hoods that I lived in. I can’t believe how much I miss it. And to make matters worse, there is NO FUCKING EL POLLO LOCO HERE! Ugh. Now I’m mad… This place is just so empty…[/quote]
Please move back, we don’t need pussies like you.

Fully concur. I agree 100%. People like HH give us conservatives a bad name. To be honest, one of the things I like about California is that it can’t be defined as strictly liberal or strictly conservative. Examples? You betcha!
Liberals tend to be thought of as limp-wristed, bleeding hearts, right? Well CA was one of the first–if not THE first–state to lock your ass up for life under the three-strikes law. Death penalty? We got it. Don’t forget about Prop. 187 which denied social services to illegal immigrants (until it was struck down by a federal court) and prompted other states–including Texas and Florida–to pass similar measures. These are not the sorts of things you’d expect to find in a typical liberal state.
On the other hand, CA (or at least parts therein) also requires recycling, prohibits smoking in public places, etc. These are good, too. Frankly, I think CA has a pretty good mix, politically speaking.
“Spent my days with a woman unkind,
Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start,
Going to california with an aching in my heart…”

I like the ‘breed’ of conservative you’ll find in California – more of the educated, successful, business owner/finance professional – we tend to be conservative for fiscal or pragmatic reasons moreso than our support/opposition to emotional social issues (gay marriage, abortion, stem cell research, environmental policy). In fact, there’s a unique political dichotomy in this State – the liberals are liberal because of their social agenda, and the conservatives are conservative because of fiscal concerns.
For example: Most California conservatives don’t lean right due to a passionate opposition of gay marriage, but many people DO strongly identify as ‘left’ for that very reason.
Wait what?
If you want to get into finance what was your major in undergrad?
Why are you going for a CFA and moving to cali? You do realize that the CFA is for investment finance right? It’s usually most useful if you live in New York or Chicago where there is trading.
The CFA exam is also over 3 years and if you fail any of the tests you start over from the start. It is also insanely expensive and 99% of the people can only afford it if a company pays for it.
How much have you actually thought this through?
Ahh the SOA is the associates degree of the accounting world. Now I know why I never heard of it.
I would say if you want to be in the SOA than the CFA is out of your league.
So you graduated at the top of your class yet you are looking at the SOA? You don’t even need a college degree to be an actuary.
I knew something was fishy with this whole story.
His story does sound a little strange…a degree from a top University should propel you to better things than what you are seeking, but perhaps to each his own.
I grew up in the Central Valley, left to play football and never looked back. Now about 60-70% of folks who move to Utah are fleeing Cali. Too much crime, grime and slime.
And whoever made the La Migra! comment was spot on.

That would be moi. Any state that puts up signs like this…
…should be ashamed of itself. Run the bastards over. They shouldn’t be in the middle of the highway…or even in the country…let em play Frogger in real life.
I have to say that Utah is even further from panacea than CA. Mormons amok! Oy vey!

Wrong. Actuarial work is far different than accounting.

Wrong again. Both are highly quantitative and my educational background is strong for both.

Clearly, you don’t know what your talking about. I got the idea from several people I know that also graduate at the top.
I’m done with this forum. So many people think they know something when they don’t know shit!!! Just like Crew thinking he knows all this stuff about how my plans are like an associates degree in accounting. People jump to conclusions based off their own stupid misconceptions.
I am done with this forum.
CFA is so expensive? Yeah no one can afford $4,000 over 3 years!!! You are such a fucking dumbass. Don’t post unless you’ve thought about CrewPierce.
