An unbelievably fun movie, only thing was people at the theater bitched at the ending, fuck those people. This movie stuck to its guns and fucken took it to the sun I LOVE that in a movie.
I didn’t even know it came out yet

a long time ago.
though, not a true horror, Dale & Tucker vs Evil (IIRC the name) was a good one.

The last movie even remotely resembling the horror genre that i saw and like was Behind the mask: rise of Leslie Vernon
Great movie. Whip-smart, funny and inventive deconstruction of horror movies. That’s all you need to know. Do NOT attempt to read up on the plot, you’ll only spoil it for yourself if you do.
In all the interviews Joss Whedon did he says the movie works best if you don’t know anything about it other than what the trailers show (and they don’t really show anything, beyond the basic set-up of putting the kids in the cabin). I resisted the temptation to spoil the movie for myself and even though I can normally do that and still enjoy a movie, I’m so glad I didn’t with this.
If I had any expectations going in, they would have been surpassed. To think this has been waiting for release for two years after the studio fell into financial difficulties when far inferior movies have come and gone is a travesty.
One thing I CAN say is that this doesn’t revive horror or try to parody it, but pulls its different elements apart with the enthusiasm of a masked maniac carving up a cheerleader. Go see -but not in 3D.

I am assuming this is coming from a fan of horror movies?
Horror movies haven’t gone downhill. They have ALWAYS been about finding the good one in the pile of crap. Most horror movies made in the 80’s are outright comedy now.

Exactly. And is beyond and outside the point of this thread. If the person who made that post would actually see the movie (I don’t understand why he’d give his .02 anyways, like anyone gives a shit,) he’d know that this movie is different for a reason.
Good to hear that others liked it and enjoyed it. I don’t know one person who hasn’t enjoyed it yet, except for an idiot I know who has probably seen every Stathem movie in-theatre. So, 'nuff said.

Right now i don’t care for the genre, but i liked the genre when i was younger and have high hopes for its revival.
What i really want to see is a horror movie that doesn’t rely on characters who lack common sense, or a near immortal villain in order to make the plot feasible.
X is right.
There have always been good horror and bad horror, but we fortunately forget the shitty ones.

Even the shitty ones have merit. I always say that even the most ludicrous character decisions can have you hooked without even realizing what’s happened. The moment people start laughing at the poor survival skills of a soon-to-be victim, and imagine how they’d react in that situation, they’re already emotionally invested in the story …far too late to complain about plot holes, or bad writing then.
“Did you see that stupid guy get eaten by those zombies? I’d have triple somersaulted over them and sprinted away. What a lame movie. Couldn’t get into it”.

There are plenty of recent horrors that do neither and many classic horrors that rely on both.
The trailer for this movie is nuts. I definitely want to see it.

Couple of annoying goons behind me made a point of chatting loudly and putting on a false nasal laugh when the gore started flying. That’s usually a sign of fear or discomfort (horror noobs). Rest of the audience had a blast with a high interest level, lots of genuine laughs and plenty of people telling the idiots to STFU and stop ruining the movie for everyone else.
I went and spoiled it for myself elsewhere on the net as I don’t know when it will come out over here.
Sounds like a good movie!

That’s why I pay extra for the Luxury seats, better class of people and I don’t have to sit near the humans who talk, play on their phones or whatever. I guess if one is paying an extra $5.00 a seat one is their to actually watch the movie
Could someone tell me if this just a rip off of Evil Dead? I couldn’t tell from the previews and am debating whether or not to go see it tonight.

As Joss Whedon put it, its a “Love Hate letter” to horror movies.

It references Evil Dead enough that it might just sabotage the proposed remake, but it’s far from a rip-off. The story explores ‘why’ the cliched group of horror movie victims (jock, virgin, dumb blonde, nerd, stoner) end up in that situation in the first place.
It’s sort of like Scream, but Cabin casts its net further than just slasher movies (there’s a shout out to J-horror, for example).
It’s definitey NOT derivative. That’s really all I can say.
