Mountain Dog Diet and Training

If I recall, with CBL, you weren’t seriously tracking cals, just overall grams of carbs, right? Does John have you tracking calories?

That’s right, I was only concerned with the carbs. I don’t think he’s having me specifically track the calories, but I’m sure he is!

Ah, sounds like he’ll be writing a custom meal plan for you with how much of what to eat. I was always surprised CBL didn’t have you care about calories. I personally have found that I can be just over and start to fatten up or that the slightest bit of excess stress or lack of sleep when I’m just under maintenance will lead to a cold or cortisol induced fat storage around the waist.

Hope you’re able to see better results with JMs plan.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved CBL. I had a blast doing it. And I think Kiefer is really onto something. But I don’t have a lot of experience with nutrition, so it’s a bit harder for me to alter my eating habits on my own to get the results I want yaknow?

Does JM make take into account all carbs including greens, just starches, or net carbs?

From what I can gather, he’s just counting the obvious carbs. ie breads, oats, sugar in pb etc etc.

Does he give you a specific meal plan of “eat this at this meal” or is it more of what shelby does with target macros and guidelines of foods?

Wondering this as well.

I have a specific meal plan. He’ll switch things as I want them. For example, I wanted some fruit, so this week he’s giving me a cup of watermelon PWO and next week it’ll be a different fruit. And I’m sure if I said I wanted to try fish, or turkey he’d switch things around to accomodate for that. He’ll also include foods you like. I’m a huge fan of PB so I get it in all my shakes.

My current training split:

Monday: legs, calves

Tuesday: AM cardio, PM chest and shoulders and abs

Wednesday: off

Thursday: AM cardio, PM back and calves

Friday: Am cardio, PM arms and abs

Saturday: AM cardio

Sunday: off

So you have to back load with cheese cake and cinnamon buns come on. You want optimal health you could still backload. Dont use that as an excuse. I think backloading will be very good for health actually. Having insulin low for a large portion of everyday and every off day for a full day is very good for health.

But its always good to have someone else to do the thinking for you when its your first time getting very lean. JM is the man[/quote]

I concur. I’m CBL, and switched to cleaner ‘fast carbs’ in the evenings. I did this after my initial few weeks of ‘licence to eat shite’ phase. Didn’t get fat…didn’t get much leaner though either. Last 2 weeks I’ve dropped some fat for sure - can see more clearer abs, especially in the obliques. I still enjoy eating out and won’t stress a few deep fried crab cakes or a slice of homemade pizza if I fancy it as a treat. I just don’t believe I’m lean enough to base my diet around cookies, burgers and the like.I don’t count carbs still, but clas will be lower just through cleaner cals. I’m much happier now, but am still enjoying my food, my time in the gym and my progress.

Just thought I’d chime in

Good luck by the way. Appreciate your forunm input and honest feedback.
JM’s the man (given me some great feedback/advise via livespill in the past), and I’m sure if your goal is to get contest shredded he’ll get you there.
I’m happy as a pig in the poo with CBL at the mo.

Keep all the posts coming, it’s good stuff

Thanks

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Like I’ve said before, I had fun with CBL, but I wanted to try something different. And so far things have been going very well with JM

Is the AM Cardio fasted?

Yes it is. I’ve been dropping weight pretty damn fast. Had a cheat meal this week as well. I’ll have no problem hitting the 2 pound drop this week.

Love fasted cardio for fat loss. When you doing update pics? You doing any other measurements?

I do update pics every two weeks, so next weekend. I do send him a weekly update with my weight and how I feel though. The only measurement I’ve done so far is buy one size smaller jeans lol

How does JM feel about regular consumption of pasteurized dairy and canned tuna?

I think if it’s only what you can afford he’ll accept it. Like my beef isn’t grass fed, but it’s what I can afford right now so we work with it.

UPDATE

Week 1, 5/20/12 - weight: 238.0, strength is going well
Week 2, 5/27/12 - weight 235.0, Strength felt a little low, but I wasn’t able to measure my food earlier this week, so I might have cut it a little low. Had a cheat meal wednesday. Also bought smaller jeans. What fruit do you want me to switch to this week?
