Most Time Tested Program

I feel so cheated.

The high schools around here still discourage strength training in anyone under 18. The nickname for our first-year college and university athletes is “the twigs”.

What I’d have given for a strength coach like that back in H.S.

You’re very fortunate, sir.

Thanks for replying and just happen to check this post and was pleased to see it is active as I thought before the poster was not responding…
My son recently bench 225 for 3 reps at his school weight room
That is a pretty good gain from 205 in less than two months
I have used ART for his knee prior to surgery and may use again now that he is about 7 weeks post-op … he does have week hamstrings and will look into the massage… he needs to work on hip mobility as well…
I think I will go to a business as you stated and get some shirts made of his school… maybe it will catch on and will motivate other players
I agree with your parimeters for each lift and feel they are well in reach…

I was curious to see what his results were now?

Hey… good to hear back from you
My son is doing well and thanks for asking
He is on his way to Florida with the baseball team… has not had a chance to play yet as he was just release by the doctor April 3rd… keep him in your thoughts… as you know the recovery process is not over

He now is maxing out at 250 on the bench… he was very excited and I had him show when I arrived to pick him up… his incentive was a large chicken cordon bleu from Penn Station… his favorite
The guy spotting him told him he may have been able to get it a couple more times… He incline pressed 185 pretty easily… he had been doing 95 4 sets of 10… and he thought 185 was going to be tough… well says he was sore…

It was cool to hear the doc ask him if he had been working hard after feeling his leg muscle… was really unsure if he would be released as during the last visit he seemed to be thinking more of 6 to 8 more weeks … and it has been 4 ti 5 weeks… however we are at the 6 month mark as the 10 of April

I had taken him to another PT center by a gym owned by a guy who worked at my current gym which was Powerhouse… he trains kids and high school athletes

They worked on his balance and stability
and strengthened the muscles around the knee…

use of a bosu ball and they showed me a technique to help the hip mobility…

having him lay on his right side and feeling for the ligament that runs down his pelvic area and having him squeeze on a ball between his knees and at the same time I apply pressure to that ligament

Recommended he do squats on the bosu ball and medicine ball throws while he is standing on his left leg… I have been having him squat too heavy

At 135 he is favoring his right side… I knocked it back down to 115… advised during his last visit to PT April 6th for him to go no higher than the bar at the moment… he is doing well on the leg press 2 45’s and a 10 on each end … step ups with 35lb dumbbells

He had just started using chains for his bench and will have him doing lockouts as well…

Thanks and the t-shirt thing has not got off the ground yet… but may order one I have seen for 250 bench

His football coach had an opportunity to position coach in the European league for a few months…

If any of you dont mind helping a novice, what the hell is a ‘shirt’, besides the clothes you wear on your back?

I gather its slang for a kind of kinetic movement like a clean & jerk or something.

PM me if you can answer, I hate coming across as a hijacker.
That’s what he’s talking about, a T-shirt. Not even a bench or erector shirt, it was just a shirt you would get if you made a certain weight. I assume it would say the name of the high school and something like “400 deadlift club”. It seems the original poster’s high school lifting coach was great. English teacher on the other hand…

sorry dude I tend to just stream of concsious write ! without much towards spelling and grammar!

How are his powercleans? bench is nothing for fotall. No offense.

He can begin to do powercleans or hang cleans even if his knee is sub par!

Build up his chins to weighted also?

Deadlifts or romanian deadlifts will work to!

Seems there is a lot to be said for trap deadlifts and box squats … which both seem to work well for athletes in terms of explosivness and speed… I think many high school age kids could stand to do more lower back work…

…UPDATE…

Just wanted to let everyone know that has posted the thread that my son, Devon, played his first game Friday the 24th Aug… he laid a guy out on special teams and made several tackles as Defensive Tackle and made one tackle near the sideline… he had his hand on the quarterback on one play but could not grab hold of the guy…

he had his Saturday practice today and watched the film and did a lot of running… he is now the starting Defensive Tackle…

He rehabed his rear-end off both with personal trainers and in Physical Therapy… thanks to the information I have recieved her on training and such… and the personal e-mails recieved from Mike Robertson… so far so good and looks encouraging

I will post a pic of him and how he has transformed himself since surgery… he is 5’11" or 6ft and weighs a solid 213… he has been taking protein powder. Beta 7 … creatine … bcaa’s and lots of fish oil… flax and Glucosamine … he is benefiting well from the supplement regimine and his training…

I was hoping someone was willing to do this program for at least 6 weeks! come on guys any takers?

I plan on trying it. I’ll have to wait until around mid-january to start because I have a lot of traveling in the near future. Also, I need to learn to powerclean.

Any suggestions on learning the lift?
Here’s a tutorial site for Olys:
http://www.aceathlete.com/hatch/video.htm

Programs like this work, plain and simple.

I’ve made outstanding gains in terms of both strength and size working the big movements twice weekly.

However, I may give this program a go for 6 months as I have never just focused on the big 3 (or in this case, the big 4).

Bumping this. Curious to hear other’s results on this type of training. I love these types of programs especially for team sports. Makes the players compete every session.

I often lift with the football players (I teach hs) and they DO NOT do enough Squats or PC. The ones who do are often the starters. I wonder if there’s a connection…

I like the simplicity of this program. Getting kids to write things down, though, goes against their instincts. I favor instinct over writing — let them just keep piling on weights.

Just gotta get them to do the correct exercises. Would love to throw just about every machine in our gym in the trash.

Please post rest periods between sets

Thanks for the program

Rest periods for these sets should be longer like 2 to 3 minutes up to 5 for the heaviest sets.

But as the season gets closer on some of the hypertrophy rep ranges I would cut down rest to get ready for practice shape.

PS. this is my new account.

This looks like a great program. I really feel like trying it and you know what I’m gonna. I’ll do it for a good long while and probably make some small tweaks down the line (but not yet). Should be fun.
