Most Intimidating Athlete

Aleksander Karelin (pre-Rulon Gardener)

Many of his opponents quit rather than face him.

just read through the posts and you beat me to him. I’m surprised he’s not mentioned more on this thread.

Especially if you’re a 17 year old girl in a limo with him.

Tyson’s prime was very short. If you look at his early fights, when he was being trained and managed by Teddy Atlas and Cus D’amato. Tyson was a skilled fighter , he gave a lot of upper body movement and worked the body a lot.

After his departure from Atlas /D’amato he became a headhunter, w/ minimal skills. Before the Buster douglas fight they say he only trained 2 weeks.

So i count tysons prime as very brief, to me he’s one of the biggest wastes of talent Ever!

However i still think he would have matched up well agains some of the greats.

Tyson Vs Frazier. Two very similar fighters, Frazier had much more heart and desire. Tyson was stronger. To me this is a toss up but Frazier gets the nod.

Tyson Vs Norton. Norton was a better boxer but i dont think he could have withstood the tyson body shots. Tyson ko.

Tyson vs Shavers. If tyson gets him early tyson but the fight favors shavers the longer it goes.

Tyson vs Ali. Ali’s skills allow him to avoid Tysons big shots and he ko’s him in the middle rounds.

Tyson vs Foreman. In his prime George Foreman was a BEAST. Tall strong w/ heart. If you havent seen tape of Foreman / Frazier, Get it.
Foreman would have destroyed Tyson!
This is a good post. I agree, I think Tyson would have been a worthy addition to this group, but he wouldn’t have dominated. Unfortunately, he arrived on the scene in one of the worst periods of hwt competition, so he was never really tested by any well-rounded fighters.

Those guys in the 70s just beat up on each other, and more frequently than they did during Tyson and today. Not to mention, those fights went 15 rounds, which never happens today.

As for Tiger being intimidating…

a couple years ago i remember watching the skills challenge they have like in february and it came down to the last event which was just like a 5 iron into the hole, 3 tries and the closest one takes it. vijay hits it to like 18 inches on his first try and he beats everyone right there. so then he takes mickelson’s club, hits one lefty and sticks it inside his first ball. these guys are good.

Yes. Fedor. Nothing is more intimidating than composure. Total serenity, brutal power.

this has been covered a million times. sports do not have to be athletic or even physical.

I have some friends back home that are really excellent at playing video games. They would be overjoyed to find that they are considered sportsmen. They feel they can “get in the game” like no one else.

Golf is the equivalent of professional dance dance revolution.

whatever. you can call golf whatever you want. say it’s not physical. say it’s for pussies. say your grandma does it. all that stuff is true AND it’s a sport.

sport is anything you do in your off time. which may or may not be something that makes you sweat. lots of people play poker. they are sportsmen. lots of people fish. they are sportsmen. lots of people sit in a blind and wait for deer to graze on by. they are sportsmen. they sell fishing rods and golf clubs and shotguns @ sporting goods stores. they cover those events on sports pages and on sportscenter.

the definition of sport has always been broad. very broad. you guys are trying to narrow it to mean something exclusively athletic but that’s just not how it is.

Well this thread is about athletes, nots sportsmen. So i guess we can stop talking about tiger now.
Hahahah. I like how you guys consider fat dudes wearing sunglasses at a poker table to be athletes.

If sportscenter says so, it must be true, right?

A guy who sits in a blind waiting for deer isn’t an athlete either, he’s a hunter. The Greeks would be ashamed.

The discussion is absolutely hilarious!

My 0.05 Cent-Rant:
Tiger Woods would be surely intimidating as hell. If I’d be a golf player. And playing against him.
So are the fat poker dudes or Schuhmacher. If I had to compete against them.

Fedor or Andre or Karelin or Ali or whatshisname would be scary in a fight, mainly because they would beat the shit out of me - but at least I’d know it would be over once coming out of the coma.

If an enraged Tyson charged me, I know I’d be scared to death because he probably wouldn’t stop till he thoroughly desecrated my hapless carcass.

Kimbo!

didn’t say “athletes”. i said “sportsmen”. nice strawman.

You’re assuming the person who could not see your carefully chosen words knows what a “strawman” is…

I
He is fuking bad ass. He just looks like a straight up psycho. I was watching the international rules match and he just psyched every Irish player out.

Other than him, Iron Mike.

And Chuck V in powerlifting. He just lives to beat people.

what about pudzian, or Dempsey?
Puzian was a boxer in poland, and i wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley. and jack the “manassa mauler” dempsey was just a badass.

“I can’t sing and I can’t dance, but I can kick any man’s ass.” Jack Dempsey

Even in his elderly age he knocked out a couple of thugs that were tryin to rob him, broke ones jaw and the others nose.

Tiger Woods intimidating? Uh no…Maybe his checkbook. I’m in awe of his golfing abilities but that’s it. I think those Japanese ping pong players have more skill. I think anybody that can hit a 95 mph fastball over the wall has more skill. (well maybe not that last one.) Golfing is not a sport. I believe there has to be interaction or physical contact to make an activity a sport. Golf, to me is no more than throwing darts. Well, throwing darts from a hundred feet away. Mike Tyson when he was with Custamoto was a nightmare. His speed was frightening. When he fought Douglas he was out of shape and took the fight as a joke. Just my .02.

p.s. I love golf, but if you think anybody that plays golf is “intimidating” "To make timid; fill with fear, ha ha ha ha.

PGA - dont take this personally but you cannot in a MILLION years describe tiger woods as intimidating. He is WORLD CLASS and when on top form awesome, but this isnt intimidating.
Intimidation and what we find intimidating varies from person to person but losing at golf is not even close.
My votes go with a young tyson, fedor and Jonah lomu at his peak

Intimidation doesnt only mean fear of being hurt by them. Just look at Tiger’s record and see what other players do when he’s in first. They crumble. Tiger outlifts most of the people on this site also.

If we’re talking about intimidating T-Men, I can understand but if you’re a T-Man nobody should be intimidating you anyway…
