I can’t believe no one from South Africa has posted a reply. It’s a commonly known fact that this happened and was caught on film.
This happened in the Krugersdorp Lion Park in the mid 70’s. The reason there were two camaras is that there were a couple of guys (just film enthusiasts, not pros.) filming the lions. With all the activity (screaming, people getting out of thier cars, etc.) it’s only natural that one would have filmed peoples reactions, much like war journalists film the “humanity” side of things.
It never made it on TV as the SABC would’nt air this sort of thing back then. But my dad (who was a photographer at the time and had photographic shop) did get to see it not long after it was made. He says this version has been further edited.
I shoud make it clear that this happened in a LION PARK. A big fenced-off area with dirt roads, that members of the general public can pay an entrance fee and drive around and look at the lions. I have been to this very park a number of times, the last being around 3 years ago just before moving to New Zealand. This explains why they didnt drag thier pray away into the bush, and why they didnt display typical hunting patterns. They are used to humans waching them all day.
Lions can be “trained” to an extent, but not to the same level as tigers. A “trained” lion is one that is less likely to kill you. You couldnt train one to steal a camara. Plus, have you ever seen how a trained lion acts arround it trainer? They are typicaly very on edge, ears flat, tail waving.
And to those who think hunting them is so evil. There would not be a single lion left in Africa if they were not hunted. If you wanted to hunt a lion it would cost you about $50 000 US. Where do you think the money goes? Thats right, into conservation! 50k can run a breeding program for more than a year. It can pay for patrols to stop (or cut down) poaching. Or buy land for reserves. While I wouldnt hunt a lion myself, it is very neccessary for there survival.
BTW, there was an Asian tourist that was killed in the same park in early 2000. His friend also filmed the whole thing from the car. The film hasnt ever surfaced as far as I know.

A HA! The plot thickens! No discovery channel-style attack or setting because it’s in a lion zoo.
So we have some clueless tourists who think there is no danger (paging Mr. Darwin, white courtesy phone…), some hungry lions, and Mother Nature does that funky dance that she does.

If this did take place in Krugersdorp, then where are the game keepers? And why would these people be allowed so close without a guide?

You’ve obviously never been there. There’s just some guy at the gate that takes your money and you drive around by yourself. The only protection is common sense and signs warning you to stay in your car.

jesus this is still going…when i first saw it in like 8th grade we knew it was fake…I’m old now
i thought it was common knowledge that most of that faces of death was crap
Obviously not, just proves that dumb people keep coming and coming, there’s no stopping them!

It proves nothing. Just because it was used in faces of death doesnt mean it’s fake. Some of the clips from faces of death are obviously fake, but this is the real deal.
Faces of Death is a real video collection of pretty sick stuff. All the videos claim to be real life. Uhmmm, there’s some other videos of people getting their throats cut, dog attacks, and a lot more sick stuff. The guy getting his neck cut open was the sickest one I’ve seen.

be happy if you could prove me wrong though KAS
Why would I waste my time. You’ve already made up your mind that it’s fake. Nothing I do or say could prove otherwise.
I’m not trying to prove anything, just thought I would tell you what I know about it.

Goos for you KAS this thread was almost over and now your infornation has addded to the debate which is cool, who knows fake or not? Will we ever know for sure?
To me this seems real, for two main reasons. The first is the second part of the film that somebody posted where they actually talked about the lion eating the person and how stupid he was. The second is if you watch the original, one lion comes into start eating the guy after he is down and the original lion turns on that lion very fiercely to defend its prey. If this was fake with tame lions I don’t think that would have happened. Watch it again and look for that lion to attack/charge the other lion, you can tell he is pissed off.
To me the biggest problem is if the people in the park had simply driven up to the guy being eaten, and perhaps even driven over him, they would have scared the lions off and he might have lived. I would much rather have someone drive over my arm or leg then be eaten by lions. That is what they did in the second video to scare the lions off and they didn’t even have to get right on top of the guy.

Wow! I can’t watch but I have to watch but I can’t watch but I have to watch but…
Anyone know the back story on this? It’s kind of hard to understand what’s being said before he eats his piece. [/quote]
I remember that one from when I was a kid. The guy was charged with some type of breech of integrity. I think his name was Bud Dwyer, but I could be confusing him with the guy who took one to the head protecting Pres. Reagan.
Also looks like if that were a slightly sharper angle, he would have missed the brain or just damaged part of the frontal lobe.
I saw this on a TV documentary and in movie magazine years ago and it is a certified hoax. I cant remember who made it but it did cause a bit of a stir when it was released but its complete rubbish.
