Most Beautiful Song You've Heard?

Simple Kind of Man remake by I believe Shinedown , for my one year old boy, brings a tear to my eye every time, still looking for one for my little girl

Benighted by Opeth

If this thread proves anything it is that taste is entirely subjective… or perhaps more fittingly, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

When asked to think of a beutiful song, most people think of an event and connect a song with it- “I remember the song that played at my wedding” etc.

With that in mind…

This song is very dear and real to me…anyone willing to listen can. The song is about his grandparents death…and I really related to this song when both my grandmothers died December of 2006 and January 2008…

The Cure - The Funeral Party

Two pale figures
Ache in silence
Timeless
In the quiet ground
Side by side
In age and sadness

I watched
And acted wordlessly
As piece by piece
You performed your story
Moving through an unknown past
Dancing at the funeral party

Memories of childrens dreams
Lie lifeless
Fading
Lifeless
Hand in hand with fear and shadows
Crying at the funeral party

I heard a song
And turned away
As piece by piece
You performed your story
Noiselessly across the floor
Dancing at the funeral party

Leigh Nash - My Idea of Heaven

First heard this when a friend of the family made a slideshow to their child after he passed (8 months old), so now whenever I hear it it brings up those memories.

I never thought I’d get here
I was so far away
I didn’t believe in love
Thought it was just a game people play
Everything changed when I met you
I touched your hand
You took my heart
And you led me to a better place
Just the two of us in the dark

This is my idea of Heaven lying here with you
This is my idea of Heaven nothing else I’d rather do

I never thought you’d get here
Why’d you make me wait?
But when I looked into your eyes
I recognized you were my fate
I’d been living in a lonely shell
With no windows to the world
How in God’s name did you find
the lone star’s loneliest girl?

This is my idea of Heaven lying here with you
This is my idea of Heaven nothing else I’d rather do
To feel you heart beating
To feel our lips meeting
This is my idea of Heaven ooooo

In Heaven love is everywhere
There is no pain there are no tears
In Heaven love lasts forever
It doesn’t disappear

This is my idea of Heaven lying here with you
This is my idea of Heaven nothing else I’d rather do
To feel you heart beating
To feel our lips meeting
This is my idea of Heaven ooooo

This is my idea of Heaven lying here with you

For me there’s two.

The first one is Lucky Man by The Verve, it came on my car stereo when I was heading to the funeral of a friends wife who died suddenly from cancer. So many people attended the funeral they ran out of seats in the church so we ended up standing in the isles

The second is the piano version of Possession by Sarah McLachlan. This was the only video I could find that has that version of the song, so I apologise about the video in the background. There’s no particular reason for this one, I just think it’s one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.

Here’s a few favorites:

The Sundays-“Love” - YouTube

Alanis Morrisette-“perfect” Alanis Morissette Perfect - YouTube

Seal-“Prayer For The dying” Seal - Prayer For The Dying - YouTube

Toni Childs-“The Dead Are Dancing” - YouTube

Jeff Buckley-“The Last Goodbye” - YouTube

England Dan And John Ford Coley - Sad To Belong Lyrics

Met you on a springtime day
You were mindin your life
And I was minding mine too
Lady when you look my way
I had a strange sensation
and darling that’s when I knew

That it’s sad to belong to someone else
when the right one comes along
Yes it’s sad to belong to someone else
when the right one comes along

Oh, i wake up in the night
And i reach beside me hoping you will be there
But instead I find someone
who believed in me when I said
I’d always care

Oh, it’s sad to belong to someone else
when the right one comes along
yes it’s sad to belong to someone else
when the right one comes along

so i live my life in a dream world
for the rest of my days
just you and me walking hand in hand
in a wishful memory
oh, i guess that’s all that it could ever be

wish i had a time machine, i could
make myself come back until the day
i was born
and i will live my life again
and rearrange it so that i’ll be yours from now on

oh, it’s sad to belong to someone else
when the right one comes along
yes, it’s sad to belong to someone else
when the right one comes along

Angel’s Son by SEVENDUST(but I think it’s a cover song.)

This is a great song! It’s from the tribute album for the leader singer of Snot after he died. I had the album back in the day and there are a lot of different artists and cool songs on it. I remember I would tune into the top 10 countdown on my local rock station so I could hear this song before I finally go the cd. Thanks for posting it.
ya, wasn’t the lead singer shot in a club or something crazy like that?

This is for my little girl.

And I heard this song during memorable times during my pg with our son…like as we were headed for our 5 month u/s, the day we found out he was a boy…and it was playing in the labor/delivery room as well!

This song almost always brings a tear to my eye when I hear it, even more so when I watch the video!

I believe that you’re thinking of Dimebag Darrel, the guitarist from Damageplan, and formerly of Pantera. He was shot, along with a number of other people in a club, 4 years ago. Some nutty fan was pissed because he wanted Pantera to get back together. What a POS.

oh ya, thats what I was thinking of…damn.

I was going to say Hellelujah covered by KD Lang.

OP, rock on for the Neutral Milk Hotel!

My vote goes for Hallelujah covered by Jeff Buckley or also Jeff Buckley’s “Lover You Should’ve Come Over”

“Lover…” - YouTube

Looking out the door I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe Im too young to keep good love from going wrong
But tonight youre on my mind so you never know

When Im broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much I need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage hes done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So Ill wait for you… and Ill burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you shouldve come over
cause its not too late

Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

Its never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
Its never over, all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her
Its never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
Its never over, shes the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Well maybe Im just too young
To keep good love from going wrong

Oh… lover, you shouldve come over
cause its not too late

Well I feel too young to hold on
And Im much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage Ive done
Sweet lover, you shouldve come over
Oh, love well Im waiting for you

Lover, you shouldve come over
cause its not too late
There are a few Sarah McLaughlin songs that are contenders.

But for me I think the one that’s always tough to top in this category is “In My Life” by the Beatles.

Honorable mention also goes to Ray LaMontagne for “Trouble.”

I’ll Be by Edwin McCain

“I’ll Be”

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath.
And emeralds from mountains thrust toward the sky
Never revealing their depth.
Tell me that we belong together,
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated,
I’ll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above.

[Chorus:]
I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.

And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed.
You’re my survival, you’re my living proof.
My love is alive – not dead.
Tell me that we belong together.
Dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated,
I’ll hang from your lips,
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above

[Chorus]

And I’ve dropped out, I’ve burned up, I’ve fought my way back from the dead.
I’ve tuned in, turned on, remembered the things that you said

[Chorus:]
I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your…
I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.

The greatest fan of your life.
…greatest fan of your life.
